Actuarial Lurker

-pre-watch: Interested to see your reaction to this- one of the most fun episodes

Actuarial Lurker

McCann Erickson was the large firm in Season 1 that tried to hire Betty as a spokesmodel for Coca Cola to lure Don to come over

Actuarial Lurker

Killer line- only Don and Peggy realize how the JFK event changed their world and how they have to change marketing to adjust to it

Actuarial Lurker

My take when FIRST watching- Betty is trading one husband for another, but will this really solve any of her problems? What is Henry's motivation, perhaps Getting a ready made family for his own political future?

This watch made me see something new. When Don grabbed Betty and called her a whore it felt like a tableau of his dad drunkenly accosting his mom and talking about whores while a baby cried in the background. Don froze for a moment after that, I think he realized who he was being right then.

the whole conspiracy still brings a smile to my face. This is a tremendous piece of TV.

Great episode. The final three episodes of season 3 may be the best final three episodes of any season.

Maybe he is! That's a really good point. This moment is temporary, Henry is exciting now but I don't think it has any longevity.

In many ways he is a lot like his father. Maybe he's not as cruel but he certainly can be. He has that rage in him.

Robert Bauman

Interesting to think that the two settings we spend the most time in the first three seasons; the Sterling Cooper offices and the Draper house, don't look like they'll be part of the show moving forward. One thing I always appreciated about the show is how well it captures the cultural transformation of the 60's. Even small things like how the characters dress and the office decorations change noticeably throughout the show. Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce will exist in a much different world than the original agency did just a few years earlier.

i'm so far behind because of an ongoing internet issue, but i can't wait to catch up - this is my favorite episode. i love a heist.

I love this episode! And I loved you guy’s reaction to it. You’re right, we are meant to have conflicting emotions about this characters, and that’s what I like about it, no one is all good or all bad. That’s the complexity of humanity. I can’t wait for season 4, it’s my favorite. I believe that the best episodes are in this next season and I can’t wait to see what you guys think about it :)

Great recap of the show and why the episode is so great can be found here: https://youtu.be/QtJMYyMy2Rg?si=dCTXXczRmzm9PPE0 There is 1 scene talking about Season 4 premier so probably not for J&K. But for others - enjoy! Originally airing on November 8, 2009, 'Shut the Door. Have a Seat' is Episode 13 of Season 3 of Mad Men. It is the 39th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 9.7, placing it as the #1 ranked episode of this season and #1 out of all the episodes shown so far.

You're right, this episode is a swan song in many ways. A farewell to the past and a big hello to what is to come.

This is personally a top 3 episode of the series. Shout out to Trudy and Henry. They are superbly acted characters. Loved Trudy when Don and Rog came to visit. And Henry in the divorce lawyers office. Also, Joanie’s back! Let’s goooo. I counted at least 4 “have a seats”: Ep title reference—Hilton with Don, Betty with Don, the group with Lane, and Don with Peggy. You guys also nailed it awhile back expecting more out of Lane’s character considering how prolific Jared Harris is…you got it now. 👍
