A nice morning treat to find a new WW reaction ready!

Julian Yates

Great reaction. In future videos can you increase your microphone volume about 5% or so? I have the volume on the max video so low and can still barely hear you over the audio of the show! :)

I play the show on my TV as normal and use an earbud to listen to the Patreon on my phone, works well.

- My second favorite of season 3 and #33 for the series overall. This is a real high point of the season for me, and I feel like this opening arc of episodes are almost as strong as the closing arc of last season. - Love all the wheeling and dealing to beat the override. Royce is another great Republican character who wants government to work but knows the value of negotiation. I think the buildup with waiting for the bill in the cold open is just to emphasize how significant the veto is and how much everyone is anticipating it. And the guy being the only one in the office, I assume, is to show us that this is a Friday night and that such important business can happen in the "off hours" (inasmuch as there is such a thing). - CJ v. Sherri Wexler is AWESOME. We know how angry CJ gets when she really *is* being kept out of the loop, so for this twit to insinuate that she's uninformed because she changed her clothes ... Sherri deserved that beatdown. (I love that actress, btw -- she died about a year ago, but she played one of my favorite recurring characters on ER.)

Unless I am mistaken, the mention of Yasser Arafat in this episode is the only time the West Wing used a real life politician that was serving at the time frame the show is set. They usually made up characters and the real life politicians were retired or deceased. As mentioned, Royce is the kind of Republican that we just don't see in today's climate. I have to say that the deal that Sam and Toby reach with him reminds me of the episode of the Newsroom where Will is complaining to Charlie Skinner about the Tea Party. There is an incumbent Republican congressman who was running for re-election where no Democrat was going to beat him, but ended up loosing the primary election because someone found room to the right.

This was the wheeling and dealing episode! Thanks for clearing that up. That makes sense that he would be the only one there. Shows the urgency. CJ's beatdown of Sherri was beyond satisfying!

Haven't seen The Newsroom! I've heard nothing but good things though. I hear it's a good companion piece to this.

He had a huge staff of brilliant people who would give him ideas who would write basically position papers (there's one episode about the census where he was like "there's no way the census could be interesting" and somebody - maybe Lawrence O'Donnell - wrote something up). Sorkin would then take all of these ideas and pack them into one episode, which would of course make the staff figure out more and more topics lol. One of the best who works on the show throughout the rest of the series just came on the show a few episodes ago, Eli Attie. He was a speechwriter for Gore and then came on the show after Gore "lost." He then also wrote for a ton of other shows like House, Billions, etc. He also was awesome for the podcast The West Wing Weekly, which I know you guys will check out later. They even had a thing on the podcast where they would go to the "At" Phone for questions or clarification.

The President and First Lady aren't schmaltzy - that's why it's great, because it's not saccharine sweet like most TV relationships that rot your teeth out before the scene is over.

Also, Charlie didn't care about his employment prospects....he wants to stay with his team.

I can not wait to listen to that podcast. I'm so curious about all the behind the scenes info. Just gotta finish the show first!

With the return of the daily White House, there's the returns of every difficult thing that comes with it: casualties in the middle east to handle in situation room, meetings to gain something and lose something else But MAN, I loved how you pointed out the little things and the love there is in this show. The small scene between Jed and Abbey, the fact Charlie wants to be a hero along side the team. THIS is why we love this show Yes, also for the bit where CJ destroys the reporter, but that's another topic
