Indians In the Lobby

Joe Wasfaret

You just made my Monday night even better!

Jeff

I laughed out loud when you brought up the Butterball hotline before it was mentioned in the show! This is one of the classic comedic moments from The West Wing. And yes, Mollie Orshansky really did develop the poverty thresholds in the 1960s based on food costs. Thanks for the intelligent discussion of the death penalty and the plight of the native Americans. This is why Sorkin's writing was so amazing here; he brought up about five different topics in one hour that are issues facing this country, but have no easy answers. And I love the final scene between the "old married couple", fighting it out but always respecting each other.

For my money, the Butterball hotline thing is maybe the most hilarious moment on the show (there's another one that's on par with it coming next season). It just keeps giving and giving, and it's definitely my favorite part of the episode. I have a Phil Baharnd Auto Sales facemask. I ranked this one #111 in the series overall (#14 for season 3).

Greetings from Fargo, ND! Still irks me they got the Zip Code wrong. :) Originally airing on November 21, 2001, 'The Indians in the Lobby' is Episode 8 of Season 3 of The West Wing. It is the 52nd episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.2, placing it as the #7 ranked episode of this season and #30 out of all the episodes shown so far. Really wish one of the fake names would have been John Cocktoastan, especially with Hal Holbrook in the last episode. IYKYK

That Leo couldnt see them always made me sad. They deserved to be heard and it was the only way to be heard that they could think of. CJ did the best she could but it still makes me sad. What America did/does to the native tribes is beyond criminal. The native americans, the slaves, the immigrants. America is built on blood and bodies so the rich can get richer.

That's a bummer! I just assumed that was it lmao! I doubt Sorkin would reference Fletch! Let alone the sequel lmao

"In two generations we'll be wiped out". Maybe. Possibly. But not if the kids in the insanely good Reservation Dogs (Hulu) have anything to do with it. For a middle-aged white British ex-pat the show took a couple of episodes to sink its claws into me, but boy when it does, it does it so good, all three seasons of it. (Taika Waititi helped produce it, Sterlin Harjo is the showrunner).

Bruno gets so many amazing speeches

Roland

Not many people can go toe to toe with Bartlet, I love that Bruno is one of them.

"Reservation Dogs" is beautiful and sad and hilarious and brutal and honest all at the same time.

As a girl who lives in the Atlanta area, Josh's mispronounciation on Dekalb County really drove me nuts watching this episode. The L is silent, it's pronounced Dekab County. My love watching President Bartlet calling the Butterball Hotline. That was also the original name of the episode before I guess legal got involved. It was than renamed Indians in the Lobby.

JVTrickypants

Same!! DeKaLb is how it's pronounced in Illinois but having lived in Atlanta for 20 years drives me nuts as well.

Kat Oliver

That is my favorite moment. His facial expression was absolutely priceless. I use this line as much as I can.

Just bought this one - thanks for the link! It'll be interesting what responses I get since I live here :)

I need this in a hoodie. Thanks for the link

I loved how you feared this was going to be a darker episode but DAMN, we got some of the funniest moments on the whole show in those 50 minutes The opening bit with Jed and CJ "Nono, look behind you" is SO clever The fight at the end between President and First Lady "J'accuse Mon Petite Fromage" has become one of my most used quotes on daily life, and the two of them have the power of two nuclear bombs and the kindness of flowers. They really are a couple in every bit But WOW, when you named the Butterball Hotline before they discussed it I knew...we all knew we were going to love seeing you two love it. It's a magnificent piece of writing, comedy, debate and silliness In addiction of that, do you know that there still are people calling the Butterball Hotline using the name Joe Bethersonton? It is hilarious for me
