I Need Some Balance

I loved this episode! I appreciate the way they not only handled the topic but made jokes about it. Vaginal health is such a taboo topic and CATS was the perfect vehicle for it.

The "Women are..." joke is so good, I totally forgot about it

The comment Maya made about Neil Patrick Harris tweeting about a woman in a top hat backstage at the Tonys was a fourth wall break. Rachel Bloom was a backstage correspondent at the Tonys that year, and she was wearing a little top hat while interviewing winners. NPH tweeted something a little critical of “the woman in the top hat backstage.” Rachel responded because they’d actually met several times since her husband was a writer on How I Met Your Mother. He ended up publicly apologizing to her after that. I love that they added that little comment in there even though a lot of people would have no idea what they were talking about.

It is important! However I would have never guessed in a million years that CATS would be the vehicle for it LMAO

I have to assume the boom mike operator thing was unscripted, right? Or maybe it had to be scripted, otherwise why would they be filming him? But maybe they had plenty of cameras to get all the angles and one happened to be filming wide enough to include the operators ? What I'm picturing is that they had her stand there and improvise line after line after deranged line, and when she said that one he noped out. And then they decided to use the whole thing.

So far the only reactors for this show that I've watched have all been men....so I await this episode with a certain amount of evil glee, knowing how awkward it's going to be for y'all. (Also, the music we hear when Rebecca and Jason were making out was from "Sex With a Stranger", the first time they met. Remember his weird smelling balls...for his wrist health?)

I tend to assume everything on a series is scripted, unless I've been specifically informed otherwise. This show has really good writers.

I love that Rachel Bloom, you guys, and I are in agreement about not thinking much of Cats. (I was glad that the course I taught was History of AMERICAN Musicals, so I didn't have to include it at all.) All the songs have titles like "[Adjective] Vagina Metaphor" except for "Nostalgia," which obviously matches up with "Memory." The cats themselves have a variety of (er) pedigrees: I think you recognized Fred Armisen; Todrick Hall is a musical theater performer with a YouTube channel; Riki Lindholme is an actress whom I recall especially from the movies Much Ado About Nothing and Knives Out; and Megan Amram has been a writer and producer on several series like The Good Place -- but, interestingly, not this one. And just like last week ("I'm Not the Person I Used To Be"), the title benefits from another look after you've seen the episode. "I Need Some Balance" indeed!

I'd recognize Fred Armisen anywhere, sadly that was the only face that stood out. Yeah, never got the Cats hype.

Amongst all the love drama and "cat issues", I really appreciated the interactions Rebecca and Valencia had in this episode. They were able to make Valencia a supportive friend without changing the fact that she is not as "free-spirited" as Rebecca and feels a slight judgement towards her choices.

Youtalkingtome

I love that Valencia is "that" friend though. She's not putting up with the BS. You totally get why too. After everything they've been through, she might be her strongest friend. Next to Paula of course.

Goodness, I love Todrick Hall (the Funky Cat), he is my favorite part of this episode!
