You mention Goodfellas in the pantheon of all time oners - well the McConkeys, who were the steadicam operators for Goodfellas, were also the main steadicam operators on Maisel. Vis-a-vis quality of the seasons, all of them are solid but 4 & 5 aren't quite as perfect as the first three. Season 4 was negatively impacted by the pandemic in certain ways, and season 5 was a little rushed because they had been planning on two more seasons and were forced to condense them down into one. That being said, season 4 has my all-time favorite episode of the show, and season 5 has a several bangers as well.

We ran out of steam during S4, and only made it through a few episodes of S5. I'm hoping that watching the episodes back to back with Joe and Kevin will allow me to enjoy the whole show this time around, so your input is encouraging.

For me it was weird when Stephanie Hsu popped up in EEAAO cause I thought her character there was such more younger than Mei, but she's so amazing. I really loved how she could take control of the scenes in such small screen time. Season 2 is still my favorite, but honestly all of them are at least 9/10 to me :)

For me, the show is always worth it for world building and how well it's made. It's like candy for the eyes, but nothing will ever top the first two seasons. It's different watching these three seasons weekly with you guys because I always binged them when they were released (4 and 5 switched to a weekly schedule though). I haven't seen this episode in full probably since it came out and I felt it when you said you thought we'd already be on tour, it definitely felt like it was spinning its wheels a little bit. The season picks up for me ep 5 until the finale. Agree with another commenter that 4 and 5 aren't the best and at times became tough, but have standout episodes (+ s4 having an all-time great one... if we're talking about the same ep lol). I don't want to discourage your viewing though! I'm sure you'll still have a great time watching and there's a lot to look forward to. As for oners, you're right about True Detective! Such an amazing one. If I stick with TV, I have to mention season 3 episode 5 of this show again. You'll know it when you see it and it's beautiful, incredible work. As for why there aren't more shows like this, I'm not sure. If you want more of it in terms of Amy Sherman-Palladino + a big budget to do what she wants, she has a new show in the works with Luke Kirby that was delayed because of the strike but will begin filming in February about two ballet companies in NY and Paris trying to save their institutions. Not stand-up, but the vibes and writing/direction will be there lol.

That's awesome, I had no idea they were working together again. We've been warned about S5, I'm still very excited to see it though. Love this show!

I only ever watched season 4 as it came out two or so years back, so I can’t say with certainty about its quality, but I remember it being really good like all the seasons. I loved season 5 because it manages to wrap up the storyline’s really efficiently, has its own funny plots, PLUS giving us an idea of Midge’s future career (no spoilers)

That's encouraging to hear. We love this show and anticipate it every week.

I think a show like this really owes it's origins to is Mary Tyler Moore. Before that, there were not a lot of non cop, non cop or non western shows and certainly not many that had a woman as the lead. And she was not only a woman, she was a single woman in her 30s making a new life after breaking up with her boyfriend. If you guys have never watched it - it's a *must watch* show.

Weird Magic

Agree with all the Season 4&5 comments but would like to add - bad seasons of Mrs. Maisel are better than 90% of the other stuff that is available out there - it is not a slog to get thru this series, and it isn't a precipitous drop-off like GOT was in Season 8. Plus - I LOVED the Finale, still totally worth the ride! Originally airing on December 6, 2019, 'It's the Sixties, Man!' is Episode 2 of Season 3 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 20th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 7.9, placing it as the #8 ranked episode of this season and #19 out of all the episodes shown so far.
