Lane did not get any money with the M&A that acquired sterling Cooper in the "Duck" deal, while all the partners got 51% of the Company's worth. Then at the end of Season 3 he severs everyone else's contract- but gets fired for cause himself by "St. John" of PPL for "costing the company Millions of pounds" and would have had NO severance...so keep that in mind...

Peggy DID tell Megan while she was planning the party that Don hated that kind of thing and she did it anyway...so there's more proof that Don and Megan don't know each other....

In terms of Progressive views- Lane dated the African American Playboy Bunny and Pete was trying to pitch Admiral TV to run inter-racial ads, while Paul was a poser...

In term of money: Pete wasn't a partner before they joined the new firm so got nothing when the British bought them, his Dad wouldn't support him because he wasn't a lawyer or financier, and Don had to spot him the $50K to keep the firm going for the period between Seasons 4 and 5- so that is why he is hustling...Roger WAS rich and is only richer from the British buyout and the $100K he had to put in to keep SCDP going was nothing to him, just a portion of the profit from the 51% sold to PPL...Bert Cooper is rich and Lane I discussed above is in a similar boat as Pete...

I hate the racist part of this episode, but that last scene brings a really nice character to the show :)

Think you hit the nail on the head - generational differences and the counterculture's growing influence are apparent in the episode. Megan is definitely more free-spirited and open than Don's 1950's vision of what a wife should be, and that contrast/their dynamic adds an interesting wrinkle to the show. She is certainly more complex than his idealized version of her in Tomorrowland.

Don feels closer to the Bert/Roger generation philosophically than the hippies, but he is usually pretty good at being able to fit in when he needs to, and he's probably going to have to at some point.

The Roger/Harry conversation in his office when they're unknowingly talking about different things always makes me laugh. He doesn't get much screen time but I'd argue Harry is the worst/creepiest person at SCDP, which is saying a lot haha

Pete is different in some very surprising ways. He doesn’t smoke, in a time when even pregnant women did. He drinks only a little, he complained after the meeting with Mohawk. And he’s surprisingly open minded about African Americans. But then he says a comment like the skirt one, or does something creepy to a woman that reminds you that he sucks lol

The relationship of Don and Megan reminds me a little of him getting slapped in bed. I think he kind of likes women who are pushy, but not too much or he acts like a grump… Also, I think he feels old, like when they show us him shaving (😍), and in the party when she was laughing with her friends, and he’s just starting with Roger. So he is becoming Roger 🤣

She is playing into the S&M kink Don had with tying up Bobbie Barrett and the slapping frm the escort as you pointed out. And Don leaves her tied up when Bobbie says that a woman from Random House publishing told her how he liked rough kinky sex....I would assume that Betty was not into that, You also see and hear Faye and Don almost breaking the bed and knocking over lamps when they started being intimate in Season 4...so we already see that Don is into kink and so Megan can play on that to keep his interest....but you can't ave a marriage that is just sex....To avoid spoilers I will only say that we see more of that later and WHY also in later episodes and seasons
