A Little Kiss (Part 1)

Actuarial Lurker

Megan is still working at the office FOR Peggy...so now Don's 2 worlds are intertwined- if that isn't a mess

Actuarial Lurker

Its Memorial Day 1966- that was an ACTUAL incident when the ad agency guys tossed a water balloon onto the African American and Catholic priest protesters...so they've jumped about 8 months or so since "Summer Man" was summer 1965 and Anna died in the Suitcase episode in May 1965 so Season 4 ended in LATE 1965

Actuarial Lurker

Dick Whitman was born in 1926 so "Don's" real age is 40. Don Draper was in his 30's in 1950 while Dick was 24 in Korea, so Anna was only in her late 40s when she passed in Season 4...the surprise party is for Don's birth date not Dick's

Actuarial Lurker

Pete IS losing his hair- the actor shaved his head progressively more to mimic a receding hairline as the seasons go on

Actuarial Lurker

That's a classic "Frank Lloyd Wright" sunken living room

Duuude I was so excited for this premiere, A Little Kiss is one of my favorite episodes to rewatch when I just want to see something Mad Men related, I think it's a fun showcase of most characters

And about the Draper kids: Kiernan Shipka is a very good actress and I think she's more well known now for playing Sabrina in the Sabrina the teenage witch show on Netflix (she's also in a great horror that was just released, Totally Killer)! And Bobby was recast cause the actor got a main role in Once Upon a Time (idk if you guys know or remember this show, but I used to love it)

Robert Bauman

The entire birthday party portion of the episode through Zou Bisou one of my favorite sequences of the show to rewatch. Just looks like a great time. I read that the Zou Bisou scene took an entire day to film with all the choreography and moving parts. Props to Jessica Pare and the entire cast for pulling it off so well.

Denisse Brito

I love this episode so much. It’s just so fun.

Also, I’ve actively looked for that dress that Megan was wearing at the party! Jessica looked so beautiful :) I really really like Megan.

Yannick, from Montréal

Being from Montréal, I just love that Jessica Paré used real Québec french swearing word... the "Câlice!" she said when arriving at the door while Roger and Jane are arguing in the hallway is truly on point! Her french is season 4 was too international.... starting season 5, it's the real Québec accent she uses!

Robert Bauman

"Why don't you sing like that?" "Why don't you look like him?"

I think its a fun exercise for you two to go back and look for the original “On the next episode of Mad Men:” on youtube because they are so absolutely contextless that they’re actually kind of hilarious. I was obsessed with the show while it aired and the promos were 90 seconds of completely disconnected “what?”, [door closes], [roger stares at his drink], [peggy takes a deep breath while on the phone], [betty takes a long drag from a cigarrete], Don says “move f o r w a r d” Mad Men. New episode sunday at 8 on AMC.

I do remember that show! Not really a fan of it. Also she's Sabrina now? I've seen ads for it. Can't believe that's her!

Weird Magic

Did I miss the part where Lane's wife came back and they reconciled in New York? Must have... Originally airing on March 25, 2012, 'A Little Kiss, Part 1' is Episode 1 of Season 5 of Mad Men. It is the 53rd episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.5, placing it as the #8 ranked episode of this season and #17 out of all the episodes shown so far.

Weird Magic

That second comment must be the one I missed - thanks!

heheheheheh

1) It's always a joy when you guys have a long intro and a discussion! 2) I think Megan+Don was planned all along if you pay attention the costuming and scene placement in season 4 - Megan's presence was ever-increasing and very cleverly done. 3) The party scene is such an interesting look at the different social classes at play. Megan and her posse are at the height of hip and cool - the short hemline of Megan's skirt must have been the ultimate chic look straight off the latest Vogue - pay attention to Trudy and Peggy and the more conservative looks - they are all thrilled and scandalised by Megan. The conversation between the rich Campbells and Ken Cosgrove vs Peggy and her alternative boyfriend was awkward to watch as well.

Youtalkingtome

It was awkward lmao. I like it though, I loved seeing everyone interacting outside the office. It was such a different dynamic. Also, No way it wasn't planned.

Told you guys you’d end up liking Stan. The patience the show takes with its supporting characters is excellent.
