Their new handler (Kate) is played by Wrenn Schmidt, who has gone on to do wonderful stuff in For All Mankind.

A couple of factoids: Matthew Rhys is 5'11"; Martha was watching "Hill Street Blues", my favorite series from the 80s, and one of the first to use a serialized narrative. The show won many awards and critical acclaim, but was never very high in the ratings, possibly because the continuing storyline was too hard to follow for the typical tv viewers of the time. The series is unfortunately a bit dated now, mostly because its unique and edgy style and tone have been copied so much that it now seems somewhat of a milquetoast cliche. But I still love it. For this episode, I love the scene with Oleg and Stan at the docks. It's the first time we hear Oleg speaking English, and it's an unexpected new dynamic between two multi-layered characters. It just shows that there's always more going on than we can ever know.

You know I was so blown away by him bringing up the Nina situation that I didn't even realize he was speaking English. Plus subtitles. Funny how your brain doesn't register those things sometimes. Heard of HSB, never seen it and he seems much bigger than 5'11!

One of the odd paradigms this series addresses is the parent/child religious storyline. In my experience, most parents are forcing/exposing their kids to religion, but in this show (because they are "god-less Russians") it flips it upside-down - it is the child wanting religion and the parents that are against it. Interesting juxtaposition.... Originally airing on March 26, 2014, 'The Deal' is Episode 5 of Season 2 of The Americans. It is the 18th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.2, placing it as the #4 ranked episode of this season and #6 out of all the episodes shown so far.

I know, it is really something. I wanna see how far it goes.. do they step in? Does Paige try to force it on them?
