Most of this season I've not seen, quite excited for this second opportunity. There's definitely something to be said for watching a show as part of a community.

Taylor

Haha you’re immediately thrown into why we’ve all said season 5 is different. It’s still not my favorite but I enjoyed it and admire the ambition of it over season 4. It’s 9 eps not 8 though! This season is still pretty fresh in my head so I don’t think I’m gonna do the full rewatch with you guys, but I’m definitely gonna pop in for my favorite eps or any comments I may think of, especially regarding those flashforwards. Whether or not you see Lenny again… it would suck if that was it… lol. It was supposed to feel a bit ominous though. Luke Kirby: “I didn't know where the season was going to go, but I definitely played it differently than any other time that we've said goodbye to each other. Something about that red hall gave me an instinct that this was a little different from our prior encounters.” Also, I wasn’t sure if you were gonna notice it or not, but the muzak playing in the airport during that scene is an orchestral version of “Til There Was You” which is the song they danced to in the Miami club. Such a beautiful/bittersweet choice.

As Taylor mentioned, the score to the Lenny/Midge scene is a Muzak version of "Till There Was You", which was the song they danced to in Miami. Believe it or not, the TWA Flight Centre really does look like that. They recently refurbished it to look like it used to in the 1950s, so Maisel was pretty much able to just shoot there as-is. Something about that long red-and-white corridor where Midge encounters Lenny is so perfectly surreal and dream-like. The image of him standing there, fumbling with his briefcase and trying to light a cigarette as the camera floats towards him has the quality of a memory or a dream. I feel like I'm watching that scene the way that Midge will remember it, rather than the way that it actually happened. The season in general has a bit of a bittersweet, retrospective quality to it. Speaking of retrospective, did you catch the parallel to the pilot? Season 1 Episode 1: Joel leaves Midge, Midge gets drunk and stumbles on-stage to do standup. Season 5 Episode 1: Mei leaves Joel, Joel gets drunk and stumbles on-stage to do standup.

Wait, you'll be watching "Gilmore Girls"??? Well, that will be interesting. I love the show, though it has its haters, and it was very much a network show of the early 2000s (well, the WB network). Television has changed quite a bit since then. The writing is fun and clever, and I love the actors, but I'm just not sure if it will be your cup of tea. But we'll see!

I did catch that on my way home. Wish I would have said something! I really thought it was well done. He fails miserably though. He's not her and I really hope he can find his own path and hopefully some happiness

I can see why my wife and I gave up on MMM after one or two more episodes of S5, there were a couple of scenes in S5E1 that grated a bit, the Thanksgiving dinner scene didn't work for me. But I enjoyed S4 much more this time around, and S5E1 was pretty good overall. Certainly not having a year (or more?) Covid gap makes a big difference to enjoying the show as a whole this time around.

Weird Magic

Just to clarify - this is NOT a Game of Thrones type ending! IMDB seasonal averages: Maisel S1-S5 - 8.4 | 8.6 | 8.4 | 8.2 | 8.3 G.O.T. S1-S8 - 9.0 | 8.8 | 8.9 | 9.2 | 8.7 | 9.0 | 9.0 | 6.4 Part of me (because I personally love your reaction shows so much, so different than others) wishes you'd stop adding the intellectual shows and do one or two "mainstream" shows that would spike your viewership. You two deserve more than 3,840 subscribers on YouTube, and others deserve to see more of your reactions. So that said - House of the Dragon has one Season out (IMDB average 8.7) and another Season coming this summer - for the good of the channel I'm hoping you'd find a way to get that show into your rotation and get those people over here to watch all of your stuff! Originally airing on April 14, 2023, 'Go Forward' is Episode 1 of Season 5 of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It is the 35th episode overall and has an IMDB rating of 8.0, placing it as the #6 ranked episode of this season and #29 out of all the episodes shown so far.

That's fair. I really liked how different this episode was. Oh well! We got 8 more episodes and I'm really looking forward to them

Youtalkingtome

We would really like to do that at some point. A lot of folks have done some of the bigger ones. We have some big plans for 2024!

Magic

Tbf I noticed some people did not like season 5 for the first few episodes, and then ended up really liking it as the later episodes pulled everything together.

Just Lily

House of the Dragon would have been amazing. Since it's lets their viewers to make their own opinions about a lot of stuff I would have loved to hear your insights. So many grey charachters and actions to discuss. And that's not even talking about the phenomenal performances from the actors

I know where Weird Magic is coming from but I think J&K's channel is successful (and will continue to grow accordingly) exactly because their commentary and analysis is intelligent, and I think they should avoid getting lost in the noise. It might take a bit longer to get full traction, but I think the gradual pace is a good thing, not a bad thing. I've certainly started watching shows that I would not have considered before. I do think J&K can start to plan a gradual improvement of production values, particularly if they have no background in that stuff.

Weird Magic

To make sure my point is clear - I LOVE the shows they have chosen. I can barely find Mad Men, West Wing, Americans etc anywhere else individually much less in the same place!! (Ted Lasso being the popular outlier that they have done already.) My "want" is for them to sell out for a couple of shows right now (HoTD, Stranger Things, etc) and get the YouTube subs up in the 20-30k range, and then come back to doing the intelligent tv they are currently doing. That algorithm expands exponentially at the next level...more people need to see J&K!!

Hanni

Love your reactions like always! i really enjoy mikes actor. He is actually Rachel Brosnahans (Midge) Husband

Do you guys have a set schedule for Maisel episode drops?

Youtalkingtome

Yeah, we mentioned in a recent episode that we moved it to Monday because we are doing movies on Friday now
