Apologies for the late post... I (Sean) had some confusion about which episode we were on and it led to hilarity but not really hilarity, mostly a stomach ache for me, but it was all for naught... ha aha aha ahaha so funny that I was endlessly torturing myself for no reason because I decided to work more than one week ahead, but failed to recall that little detail. Ha ha ha so funny that my cortisol shot right to my heart and nearly caused me to flatline... hee hee hee, that's so cute... PTSD from working in Radio and TV... but it's fine... and here we are . Please enjoy BOB a LIL bit late... apologies...

Thanks Sean! No worries. It’ll be a nice pleasant before bedtime relaxing watch I’m sure. I’m gonna be parachuting into Holland in my dreams tonight! 😆 We appreciate all your hard work. Don’t feel bad about it. 💜

Yay!!! Just knocked off work and was just vaguely staring into the distance. You guys brighten my day every time. Really makes me happy. Thanks!

The red and green light tapping is because he is colorblind.

Thanks for sharing about your Grandfather, Sean. Being a runner is a risky job! Brave man. God bless him. Lest we forget.

Bull Randleman is a true American Bada$$. The actor who plays him in this series tried to get him to open up, but Bull never said more than a couple of words. Bull’s wife was the one who told the actor all about him.

Arthur Tollinchi

The best movie about operation Market Garden, A Bridge too far!

Arthur Tollinchi

He asked for the green light because he is color-blind

I get you guys are paranoid but damn lol You coordinate with a country's resistance forces to help you land. As what the Brits and Americans did with the Dutch and you all can't trust the people trying to kick out the same enemy you are fighting against?

Abraham Perez

The Sherman did not have better armor. The saying was, you needed 13 Sherman's for every 1 Tiger.

Eric is Me

Sean, you are appreciated and valued! Thank you for all that you do.

No worries, Sean! Hope it wasn't too bad of a stress, the episode's here now and we're ready to watch it.

All across Europe the women who slept with germans faced a lot of sanctions. In Norway we call them "tyskertøs" (german slut). These were women who were in relationships with the occupiers. Frida from ABBA was born from one of these relationships. Her mom was sleeping with a german sergant stationed in Norway. They fled to Sweden after the war because of the backlash from the community. A lot of them probably got way harsher punishment than they deserved, but the occupied countries suffered a lot during the war. To say that the people were furious would be an understatement. A lot of brave men and women put their life on the line, and put their families in danger, when they chose fight back against the germans. I was lucky enough to meet one of the local resistance fighters just months before his death. He told me that they got a mission from the british to blow up his own workplace. It was either that they risked their life, or the british would send planes to bomb the place themselves, which would ultimately kill a lot of the local population. A group of men and a couple of women were tasked with the job. The women had the job of singing and flirting with the soldiers on watch, loud enough so that the soldiers couldn't hear the men cut through the fence. The mission was successful. He had to go back to work the next day and clean up the mess he made himself. There are countless stories like this. If you guys are ever curious to see what the war was like for countries like ours, I can recommend "Max Manus".

The part of my family's history I'm proudest of, and what sent me into the military, are the stories of my great-grandparents fighting in the Danish resistance during WWII. My grandmother's family lived deep in the countryside, out in the woods, where they received RAF airdrops. My great-grandfather had her confirmation dress sewn from parachute material. Then he invited the local German officers to the party, just so he could dance with her in front of them while she wore it. I picture that scene a lot.

TommyHawks

Does that mean they watched the episodes in the wrong order again?

Christopher Altamirano

German Armor was so much more superior to ours but we spit out like 8 tanks to their 1.

I haven't tasted chocolate either since the Cadbury's takeover!

In answer to why they are all spread out when crossing the field, it's to minimize casualties from explosives (mortars, artillery, grenades, etc.) and machine gun fire. If everyone is bunched up, a single explosion will likely cause several casualties whereas having dispersion would mean you might only take one or two casualties. Sometimes it's easier to understand if you try to put yourself in the enemy's shoes. If you have a machine gun or a grenade, would you aim at the cluster of people or the single person?

James McAvoy looked about 12 years-old in this episode. It's my first time watch of BoB and I just knew he was going to get it. Too many heartfelt closeups of his baby boy face. His career really blew up after this. He is Professor X ya know. That's my favorite role of his anyway.

Some fun facts about Holland, since I'm from there :) - Holland is actually a region within the Netherlands, consisting of two provinces (North Holland and South Holland), although internationally sometimes the whole country is called Holland as well. - The country is roughly the size of Vermont and New Hampshire combined. - It has roughly 18 million people and 23 million bicycles. - It's one of the flattest countries in the world, literally flatter than a pancake, and a third of the country is below sea level. - The Netherlands is a kingdom, the current head of state is King William Alexander, but he has little to no political power. His birthday is a national holiday called King's Day. - The world's first stock market was created in Amsterdam in 1602. - Other Dutch inventions include the world's first telescope, microscope, submarine, cassette tape, and the CD and DVD (partly). - Dutch people are among the tallest people in the world, with men 6 ft on average, and women 5 ft 7. - The Netherlands was the world's first country to legalise same-sex marriage in 2001. - In the 1950s and 60s we created an entire province the size of Rhode Island out of the sea. - New York City was originally a Dutch colony named New Amsterdam. - The Dutch language sits halfway between English and German. Hope you found this interesting, I've always loved watching this episode since the area depicted is very close to where I grew up. Great reaction as always ❤️

Looked like Sean might have recognized James McAvoy as Private Miller(the soldier that felt bad and removed the unit citation from his uniform). This episode tells the story of the NCO leadership. Up until now, you've seen leaders at the officer level. that would be Winters (the guy you guys like) this episode was about NCO's or Noncommissioned officers. in the beginning, the old vet talked about how they had good NCO's. Military has 2 rank ladders. Commissioned officer: is commissioned into service. it is a career long decision. there is no end date. ranks are leadership ranks like lieutenant, captain, major, colonel, general Noncommissioned officer: enlisted for a number of years that varies. today, in the Marine Corps, a standard enlistment is 4 years(thats me). if the military still wants you, you can reenlist a number of times. those are your corporals, and sergeants and staff sergeants, etc. basically any rank with the word sergeant in it lol. This episode featured Sergeant Randleman (Bull) a lot. remember that gonorrhea told the rookies to listen to Randleman, he was the smartest guy he knew. Bull then helps the newbies out to help keep them alive with all kinds of advice and he did it without being mean.

Sean, look up one of these projects where people have tried to preserve these old soldiers tales. My Office manager was able to show her kids their great grandfather. • Veterans History Project: Operated by the Library of Congress, this federal program collects firsthand audio/video interviews, letters, and memoirs from U.S. military veterans. (Website: loc.gov/programs/veterans-history-project) • Remember WWII: Founded by activist Rishi Sharma, this initiative focuses on video-interviewing surviving combat veterans across multiple countries to archive their legacies. • Witness to War: A dedicated organization that records thousands of combat veteran video accounts and preserves them in an online public library. (Website: witnesstowar.org) • WWII Veterans History Project: A youth-led non-profit founded by Benjamin Mack-Jackson that produces documentary films and educational archives in partnership with platforms like Ancestry.com. Very interesting and heartbreaking to learn. Thank you for sharing 💜

Thanks - now I want a Hershey bar.

Loved those facts! You left out the amazing art - it birthed Rembrandt and Van Gogh among others. Was Vermeer Dutch? I looked it up. I thought so. I kind of want to move there now. 💜

Don't ever stress Sean! 99.9 percent of people will understand even if there was an issue. That 0.01 percent are brutal though, I can't vouch for those guys. 💜💜💜💜

About the color orange which is shown to greet the allies: The color of the dutch since the royal family "von Oranien" took over is orange, over time it became synonymous with the netherlands and rose to a "national color". The dutch call it "oranje". So in this episode the dutch citizens showed the dutch orange as a signal that they were forced to aid the germans and that they still had national pride.

Heather M Santell

There is a movie with Nicholas Cage about the USS Indianapolis. Also, God Bless your Grandfather Sean and all who served. I thank you for his service.

The Allies thought in Holland there were just Reserve troops but in reality there were some veteran troops from Normandy and the eastern front to rest and refit.

Tom Oosterbroek

In the Netherlands (Holland) they were called ' moffenmeisjes' (Kraut girls) . As far as I have been able to gather they were mostly in a genuine relationship or because it was a ' survival' tactic in an occupied country as one could get access to more food, necessities, etc, if you had good relations with a German soldier. Only sometimes was it real collaboration with the enemy out of political views.

Fighting irish

There is a quote in a few episodes from here where it’s just before battle of the bulge were winters takes to a private coming back off the front lines and the quote is “ they surround us and slaughtered us and winters responds with don’t worry private were are the airborne we are ment to be surrounded “ and I think that that quote really makes the whole series for me these guys jump out of planes to fight the enemy and when they land fighting can be happening all around them when they land

I'm a massive tank nerd so I am going to give a brief synopsis of allied vs German armor. Tank for tank the Germans were better. They had more armor (towards the latter part of the war) and would generally out gun the allied tanks. Speed depended heavily on the tank model. The tiger (featured in this episode covered in hay) was a heavy tank. Lots of armor, big gun, but slow. The panther was a much faster German tank. It was able to be so fast because it took advantage of armor angling which increases the amount of effective armor without increasing the thickness of the steel. With all these advantages came some serious drawbacks. German tanks were much harder to manufacture, broke down a lot, and were notoriously over engineered and difficult to repair. The allies were able to crank out many more tanks, were much more reliable, and were easier to repair. When Germany started making tanks with heavier armor, the allies starting making tanks with bigger guns as well. At the end of the day, German armor was too over engineered to be effective at the rate that they were losing tanks. Their loss of air superiority also had a massive impact as a tank can do very little against a ground attack aircraft. However, allied crews were terrified when they heard a tiger or panther was near them. The psychological impact of those tanks won a lot of battles before they ever took place.
