Dang it. The vhs opener. It’s not captioned. It says captioning not available. I watched the first part but now can’t watch the second! I am allowed less and less material to watch for 15.99! I’m almost at the point of giving up.

Brian Poitras

Waited all week to watch this ship go down with you guys. The band. The propeller guy. The people fighting out of third class. Polish child in the flood. Second half of Titanic is a masterpiece.

Snora

The autogenerated ones are very accurate so far

Stealthy Lunatic

I've had no issue with the auto-generated closed-captions myself

American Mum Reacts

Jack & Rose were made up for the movie. There is a true documentary on Netflix called Shipwrecked: Nightmare at Sea (2026) 💚

Mack

Mike/Sean the Captain for the Titanic is King Theoden King of Rohan

Allie Johnson

I googled CQD…it’s early Morse code and It combines the general telegraph call "CQ" (meaning "all stations" or "seek you") with the letter "D" added to signify distress.

Kylezart

That's just how James Cameron creates a film, very captivating and engaging. NOW WATCH JAMES CAMERON'S AVATAR! 😂😂

Donna Coffman

As impressive as the effects are to you watching at home, they were most literally jaw dropping watching this on an enormous theater screen in 1997. Certain scenes (the closeness of the iceberg to the ship, the propeller lifting up out of the water, etc.) found me watching with my mouth open for an extended period of time. It really was a spectacle of the grandest nature.

Bad_Username

Not correcting - just some unsolicited Titanic-lore, but i read that another ship DID actually see those distress fireworks coming from the Titanic, and were pretty close, but assumed they were celebrating/partying

laurajoybubbles

Well now I want a spin off Mikey Show Presents where you both read books to me

Allie

WAITED ALL WEEK FOR PART 2 LET’S GOOOOOOOOOO

BrendaPerry / GramBree

Jack & Rose story line is made up. However a lot of the passengers and crew were real, issues were real such as ismay urging the Captain to speed up (per a surviving passenger who overhead the conversation) , 3rd class being locked down, most boats not coming back etc. Its a fascinating story.

Megan Rose

James Cameron actually had to come out and apologise for some stuff. The Murdoch guy never shot anyone and also didn’t shoot himself. He was lost in the water trying to get the last life boat down and out. Also, almost all the guys In the steam rooms died. The older more experienced officers told the rest of the crew to leave and they all died. Most guests never even knew they had hit anything, it was that soft. Lastly, if they had hit the iceberg head on, most of the passengers and crew would have been saved.

Alissa Tucci

I'll add my "fun" fact like everyone else: Titanic likely wouldn't have sunk if they'd hit the iceberg head-on. The damage probably would've stayed within the forward compartments. Turning caused the iceberg to scrape along the side, flooding more compartments than the ship could survive.

American Mum Reacts

Hockley was a made up character by James Cameron; he didn't really love Rose. It was more of a SHE IS MINE (toxic)

Kevlar

CQD is an early Morse code radio distress signal that means "all stations — distress. Origin of "CQ": Derived from landline telegraphy, "CQ" was a general call meaning "calling all stations" or "seek you". ----- that's what I got from Google.

Kylezart

Wood floats even better in dense salt water, too.

Ben Hop Pop

I remember when this movie came out, my grandmother who was a genealogist became obsessed with the passengers, their stories, and their descendants. She paid me $100, which was a boat load of cash for a 13 year old in 1997, to produce a list of all the passengers of the ship and identify the survivors. I scoured the dial-up internet for weeks and finally printed out a stack of tractor feed paper.

Snora

And the sound design! The ship creaking!

Jamie Walton

Théoden, King of Rohan, proclaimed “Women and children first.”

American Mum Reacts

People falling/jumping off the ship reminds me of the footage from 9/11 and the towers. So sad

Kisha Potts

I always laugh every time. Billy Zane has one of those things in his acting career where it is written in the script with each acting role where he gets spit in the eye lol!! I've seen it in Poetic Justice and Demon Knights. I'm sure there's others but every single time. Spitooie 💦👁️ 🤣🤣 I wonder how many takes for each movie with each character hahaha!!!

amy McLoughlin

When I was a kid I remember going on those big inflatable slides kinda like bouncy castles, more often than not it was a titanic one with the sinking ship making the angle. Suuuper morbid in hindsight. They probably weren't branded titanic but they were definitely designed to look the same

American Mum Reacts

The last and ONLY boat that came back; that guy was a HERO 💚

Bad_Username

“Emotional Jihad”🤣 Definitely stealing that term for everyday use

Lord Stag

Great. Within the first two minutes I shot my, shall we say very warm, coffee out of my nostrils at about mach 2😂

Jennifer Bertetto

I’ve seen this movie at least a thousand times and cried right along with you guys. This movie is a masterpiece and will always be my favorite. No love story compares to Jack and Rose. Thank you for watching it! If you get the chance to watch in theaters it is a must do. I watched this during the first run in theaters and every anniversary re-release since.

American Mum Reacts

BEST part of the movie, for me, is the ending with the pictures of ALL the things Rose did (Jack said she would do)... She lived her life, had children and died an "old woman warm in her bed."

amy McLoughlin

The Carthage, the ship that came at the distress call, they were 4 hours away. The captain HAULED ARSE. Pushed the engines well past their max speed for hours straight. They couldn't see the icebergs, when daylight came and the captain saw what they'd sailed through he was shocked they'd survived.

Ladyjaded

Oh it’s working now. Yay. Wish it would work for the other stuff. At least this works. Whoo

Alissa Tucci

Loved the reaction, but I soooo wish you guys would have talked about it afterwards. I keep hoping that you'll add some commentary and analysis once each movie is done like other reaction channels do. I know I'm a broken record, but it's my favorite part of reactions. Hearing what people thought, their favorite parts, which parts affected them the most, questions they still have.....*sigh*. Hopefully, someday...

laurajoybubbles

It's one of my favourites too, and as I've aged I find more to be upset about each time I watch it

Allie

Jack told Rose and everyone at that dinner table that he’s lived a full life. That he had freedom, air in his lungs, and that he wanted to make his life count. Then he met a young woman that wanted to end her life because she never got to live a life. He saw a fire in Rose that he loved and wanted her to have the chance to unleash it and live a life and have freedom. He knew that Cal and her mother would smother that fire and keep her in a cage. He spent the entire film making sure that she had the chance to live it. Even when they found the door and it lost balance when they both tried to get on, there’s a moment where the camera focuses on Jack’s face when he KNEW that it could only float with one of them. That shot is so important. Because you can see the dawning realization and that he makes his peace with his fate. He KNOWINGLY gave his life for hers. That’s why he makes her promise to keep surviving. Another important shot is when Rose realizes Jack is really dead and the boat starts to get further away. The camera focuses on her lying back down. For a moment, she didn’t want to leave him and was going to stay. But then her eyes open. And she remembered the promise that she made to survive and to live for him. That’s when she’s says her final goodbye and goes for the whistle. In his promise, Jack says “You’re going to go on. You’re going to have lots of babies. You’re going to die an old woman, warm in her bed.” And that’s just how the film ends. She revisits the site of the sinking. She finally gets to tell this story she’s kept to herself for 84 years. She gets to tell people about Jack Dawson and the kind of person he was. She got to love the life that she promised him she would. Then she drops the diamond, which could have given her unimaginable wealth, but chose to never go that route. Then she dies, an old woman, warm in her bed. Just like she promised. Then gets to see him again. James Cameron has done some of my favorite films of all time. But this film was nothing short of lightning in a bottle. Many people will disagree, but Titanic, to ME, is his Magnum Opus.

Nate Terry

The final scene where it shows Rose sleeping in the bed and all her pictures of what she did with her life, then transports you back onto Titanic all shiny and new, that scene usually is interpreted to mean that Rose just died "warm in her bed" and she sees herself back where she was happy on the ship. everybody you see in the staircase room were all ppl that died. interestingly about Titanic, afterwards, a congressional investigation was had where a lot of things came out that didn't make the movie, like other ships in the area that could see the emergency flares but didn't respond. there is a lot to read about the titanic. SOS was invented previously, but after this incident, maritime laws and procedures where solidified and SOS become a law. the US passed the US Radio Act. i won't bore anyone here, but if you are curious about passenger liners of that era that sank (there were a lot, especially during WW1 and WW2. some have even more tragic stories. one such ship was the Britannic the Titanic's sister ship. it's fascinating history these passenger liner ships. almost cursed with bad luck.

Choncho

Arguing about if a 10 ft board of wood would float, while we all knew about the ending, was great.

MomzillaAngie

They need to be sure to do all the voices too cuz ya know they can!!

MomzillaAngie

And it ran in theaters forever! They made so much money and just kept making money because it ran for an extended period

deadpixelsociety

Today on Titanic, Mikey learns about buoyancy!

MomzillaAngie

That is crazy. He must really like it. That’s what the craziest part is I guess whatever floats your boat so to speak. 😆

MomzillaAngie

And the Lusitania. I’ve watched a lot of shipwreck stuff and Titanic stuff in particular. It’s kind of morbid but I live in the Great Lakes region. There is a really nice Maritime Museum near me where they had a really impressive display this summer all about shipwrecks on the Lakes and it was very graphic. But interesting.

MomzillaAngie

I know! I couldn’t wait till they actually got to the scene where they try to get on the door. It didn’t disappoint.

MomzillaAngie

I’ve really dug into the Titanic lore and details. There are a lot of characters in the movie that were real people. My favorite one was the chef that they are hanging on the back of the ship with when it goes into the water. He is drinking liquor from a flask. He was one of the only survivors in the water because he was cold drunk, and that kept him warm and alive.

MomzillaAngie

I meant stone cold drunk but autocorrect corrected the word stone out of there. AI just doesn’t get me sometimes. I can’t edit it because my phone wouldn’t scroll down to it. Boooo

Alissa Tucci

It was the RMS Carpathia that came to the rescue!

MomzillaAngie

Awesome reaction guys! I always shake my head and wish she would have secretly sold the diamond - the money could have fed a small country for a decade! It could have cured cancer! Anything but throwing it away. It had no sentimental value to her! But that wouldn’t have been poetic enough I suppose. 🤷‍♀️

Alissa Tucci

The radio operator for the SS Californian turned off the radio and went to bed about 10 minutes before the Titanic's SOS message! If they had seen it and responded, they would have arrived between 2 and 2:15 a.m. (Titanic sunk at 2:20) and could have pulled hundreds from the water.

laurajoybubbles

Throw in a random voice too, like the little old lady character sounds like Joe Pesci

amy McLoughlin

Carpathia! That's right! Carthage was a city destroyed by Romans...

Phylicia ✨🌸

Great reaction guys! I agree, I didn’t appreciate Titanic as much when I watched it when I was a lot younger. Watching it with you guys made me appreciate it more and brought a whole lot of new meaning. With that being said, may I suggest “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”. Kate Winslet and Jim Carrey stars this movie. Emotional and profound movie! ❤️

Phylicia ✨🌸

Agree! That guy is a champ. I was a little girl when I watched it and prayed earnestly for that person to have a great life ahead of him. 🥰🥰

Tez03005

This is why they brought in SOLAS for vessels at sea and rewrote the laws for ships, also there in an alternative ending to this film not as good as the original but worth a watch on YouTube

Tom

You guys should now watch The Poo Cruise on Netflix.

Cristabel

These effects were groundbreaking in the 90s and everyone in the theatre was in shock. What a movie!

Kate

37:39 oh my sweet summer children.

Kate

Crying with you guys 🫶 what a movie

Nate Terry

oh i bet. the most insane thing about the Britannic was the propellers lifting out of the water but were still turned on and 2 lifeboats full of ppl were sucked into them. one lady(Violet Jessop) on the life boats actually jumped out and survived....and it was later discovered that she had been a TITANIC SURVIVOR also! She literally survived the Titanic and Britannic sinking in a matter of 4 years!

Kyle Kozina

“No older than 25ahhh” got me

carrot

I love this film.. think it's such a beautiful film without being overly cheesy, a simple story excellently told. Stunning creatively & technically as a film & still looks amazing for a film that came out nearly 30 years ago!

Kyle Kozina

Also people don’t realize when the power went out on the boat. It was completely pitch black

Graeme M

As a man you had a higher rate of surviving the Titanic depending on which side of the ship you were on during the sinking because one particular officer, Lightoller was very strict in his interpretation of the "Women and children first" he enforced women and children only. Other officers, such as Murdoch, allowed men on to the lifeboats after the women and children had boarded. Cameron used a lot of the survivor testimonials from the inquiries in this movie. So while the story of Rose and Jack are not real the stories and moments we see happening with other characters are all true according to the witnesses. The discussion between Ismay and the captain, where he is urging the captain to go faster, there is a woman in the background watching them - she is a survivor that reported this conversation in court. Although, it's not exactly written as she described.

joeltt1

From the starter conversation, I'm thinking you guys would LOVE (and relate to!) Anchorman, even though its a comedy

Sarah Reilly

I saw this at the cinema I was about 22 on a blind date .. I balled my eyes out as did every other girl coming out of that cinema with mascara streaked down her face 😀 it was so immersive. It’s hard to watch but such an important film so generations don’t forget what these people went through. Thank you for this reaction, and your intelligence and sincerity, I love you guys x

Sarah Reilly

Oh and a fun fact.. when James Cameron was trying to decide on the actress.. Claire Dane’s was a serious contender. . Kate was so young, he wasn’t sure if she could do it and she sent him a single rose to his office with a note saying “ I am your Rose” … he gave her the part, thankfully. The rest is history.

Kelsey

So I saw this in theaters when I was a kid --- whole theater was SOBBING. I still remember my auntie (who had seen the movie before) insisting she sit next to me and I wasn't sure why until she covered my eyes for the "paint me like one of your French girls" scene 😆😆😆 That whole year of school -- the castle on the playground was the "Titanic" and the poor teachers had to remind us to stop fighting over who gets to be Jack and Rose

Kylezart

1997, fellas.

Heather M Santell

The romantic story is not real. But the lack of life boats on the ship, the small rudders, the speeding up just to break records, and many of the actual boat sinking facts are real. Its just the love story that is fake.

Jane at Home

The time in the film between hitting the iceberg and the sinking takes place in real time.

Matt R

I was listening to this at work and started crying at one point even though I couldn't see what's happening 🤣 I wonder if anyone else sometimes listens to you guys as a podcast and not a video, or am I a weirdo?

Jane at Home

The old couple in the bed were the Strausses, who founded Macy's. They were wealthy, but felt they had lived their lives and she didn't want to leave him. Rose and Jack and her monster fiance are made up, but Molly Brown, and John Jacob Astor and his 17 year old wife, and Guggenheim and his butler, and more, are all real.

Kisha Potts

🤣 so disgusting. But so funny. Even in the serious roles like this one, they some how gotta put it in there. It's definitely got to be his choice eh 😂😂

Alissa Tucci

Close enough, right? haha :)

Sarah_M

💜💜💜💜

John Mc Ternan

The second half of this film is Cameron's best film I stand by that. Cameron just wanted to make a film about the sink and but the love story really was something that the studio asked for or something to attach it because they wouldn't give him 200 million to make a historical epic no matter how good a name he had in the 90s. The film the love story actually works well and it's almost about the the joy and the loss of the Edwardian age and that confidence coming into contact with nature and the fact they couldn't do everything. Man being humbled by nature, all the classes being equal in front of nature.I think Jack and rose are there to really represent the average person and all their hopes and dreams in the new world as much as anything that were never fulfilled.

John Mc Ternan

Speaking of what was real, That guy drinking from the hip flask near the end was the chief baker, Charles Joughin, who managed to survive because he got skunk drunk and his blood didn't freeze like everyone else's. Or didn't feel the insane cold as much.

Heather M Santell

Just as an additional fact....the guys in the crows nest were supposed to have a pair of binoculars but they only had one pair on board and the higher ups kept them down on the bridge for their own use. Also, it is harder to see icebergs at night when the water is so flat and calm. If it was little wavy out they may have seen the iceberg sooner because the waves would have been crashing against the iceberg. The captain going full speed of course was a huge mistake.

orbo

When they started arguing about using a table I thought for sure they were trolling. Like, welcome to 100,000 internet arguments.

MomzillaAngie

For sure YT comments will go there. I definitely can wait for that.🙄

Brian Poitras

Thats cool. I knew it was an Eastern European language. I guess I always just assumed based on the time period it was Polish or Ukrainian. Thanks for the correction. That's why you should never assume.

Donna Coffman

You are definitely not a weirdo. I often listen to their reactions while on road trips. They remain incredibly entertaining sight unseen!

Meagan

My favourite was highlighting that the plates floated a little bit later on. I can just feel that they have such a good relationship 🖤

Meagan

Ooh like a quick fifteen minute debrief video after about the parts that stuck, if you’re thinking about it a week later, any additional thoughts.

Zip The Turtle

With the voice thing. I agree if it’s a one off 2 minute thing, it’s no big deal. BUT singing a long time, many times messes up your voice. That’s why some older band singers sound good, some can’t talk anymore. Narrators are the same. We make unnatural voices that aren’t ours for hours on end. We could f*** it up.

Seduction Productions

Yeah alcohol doesn't make you warmer like people think. It can actually make things worse lol He just wouldn't have noticed the cold as much if he were drunk

Jess Landry

i know the patreon is goin pretty good for you guys but uhhhh you could for sure narrate audio books for money

Jess Landry

there were so many many many things that went wrong with the actual sinking that weren't touched on in the movie. its kind of incredible.

Jess Landry

i think all of the emotional payoff in this movie made up for any soreness about harry potter. really glad i got to be a part of this sort of c:

Hyperion

Mythbusters famously did an episode on Titanic verifying whether or not if Jack or Rose could have both survived by staying on the door

Hyperion

I get that there is symbolism behind her dropping the necklace into the ocean, but that jewel wouldve been the most valuable necklace in the 20th century. She threw it into the ocean instead of giving it to her next of kin. It is one of the most selfish things ive seen in a film. Not only that, but she dies and goes to heaven immediately afterward.

Maikel

Wow thats great to know that Iam not only CZ/SK viewer. 😵

Izanne

Glad you guys loved it. I saw it in theaters when it came out and it was so packed we had to sit in the front row, it was crazy. I’ve also watched it probably hundreds of times since then and I still cry every time.

Izanne

You should watch The Impossible which is based on a true story and is also a great film!

Peter Magyar

You may read a lot of interesting stories about how Cameron shot this film. He had built huge sets then flooded them all the way. There was a part where Leo and Kate literally almost drowned during the take.

Cole Troutman

Idk if someone mentioned it yet but the Carpathia blew its engines out trying to get there in time

Marilú Casas

Neither Rose nor Jack were real; they were created for the movie. However, the film does mention that Rose became an actress after the sinking. This detail is based on a real person who does not appear in the movie: Dorothy Gibson, an actress who was traveling on the ship with her mother and starred in the first film about the disaster just a month after it occurred. She wore the very same dress she had worn that night. As for Jack, there was indeed a "J. Dawson" on the Titanic, but it was Joseph Dawson, a stoker who died during the sinking.

Fighting irish

The orchestra did stay right to the end as the ship sank and for anyone who wants to know they are playing “ Near my God to Thee” a hymn that is often sung at many churches

Erica Aguilar

I believe Jack had to die so that we, the audience, could get a glimpse of the magnitude of grief loved ones of the Titanic must’ve felt.

Kate

It's beautiful to see people truly appreciate this film once they finally see it - a cinematic masterpiece in every way. Deserves all the praise :)

Jordan Baillie

43:09 - Sean making sure his house isn't sinking.

Mustafa Asar

Rose wanted to die, Jack wanted to live, Jack died for rose , & Rose lived for jack .......

Tyler Clayton

Another issue the guys in the crows nest faced was that the water was so calm and clear it acted like a mirror, reflecting the night sky. This caused the iceberg to be almost invisible until it was close enough for the ships lighting to illuminate it just enough to be seen. Up until it was too close, it just looked like a dark spot in an already dark skyline.

Chris Zapata

They tested it, not only would the door have floated, but it could e supported them both

Chris Zapata

Throwing the diamond in at the end was such a dick move hahaha

Tyler Clayton

The sequence with the band's last song, where they show the mother tucking in her kids and the husband holding his wife in bed. That sequence brings tears to my eyes every time.

Tyler Clayton

Fun fact about the guy in white that you keep seeing taking drinks from his flask. He was the ships cook. The story is that he is survived the ship sinking based on the sole fact that he had so much alcohol in his system that his blood couldn't freeze in the sea water.

SDSavvy

That ship had a better power grid than most cities today. LOL

Ana Lucia Zegarra

That would be awesome!! Specially in a movie like this that has so much deepness and emotional load. It’s really interesting hearing what people think after going through it watching the movie because it really makes you feel the caos, despair and grief of this immense tragedy and understand the magnitude of what Titanic is really about.

Alexandra Hudon

I watched Titanic more than 35 times since it’s release and I cry every single time

BecauseBeca

I always cry so much as the people realize these are their last moments. I don’t know much about the real Captain, but I imagine he had a long and successful career and probably believed the Titanic would be a great way to celebrate that and was probably excited to get the job of this great new ship. Only to realize not only is he going to die but many others on his boat. I can’t imagine what it’s like to come to the end of your life and realize this horrible end is all you will be remembered for. It breaks my heart for all involved.

𓆣 KAMIKAZIJUNEBUG 𓆣

Having just started game of thrones season 2, I’m thrilled to see Mikey is back to his regular color.

Dan

They lost the key to the binoculars In the crows nest and that’s why they didn’t see it earlier

Dan

The reasion it sank is thought to be a issues with the rivits and steel

Dan

The ship was built only 40 mins up the road from me

ChloeSoSims

Titanic is my favourite movie of all time and has been since it came out when I was 6. I have seen it hundreds of times. It destroys me every time. I'm sitting here bawling my eyes out just imagining the trauma that the victims and survivors endured that night. Knowing that this event really did happen is what cuts me so deep. James Cameron is a genius, as far as I am concerned. This movie is a cinematic masterpiece.

ChloeSoSims

I would LOVE to see you guys react to the making of Titanic. I think you can find it on youtube. James Cameron is an absolute genius.
