Second half of the film turns into Cameron's best film ever, I stand by that. You can see a lot of terminator 1 in this with the Rose/Jack dynamic. That's not to say the first half is not brilliant too. It made me obsessed with the ocean and nature when I was young. The sound design is insanely nightmarish. There was an edit of this on YouTube years ago were all the Jack rose stuff was cut out and it was incredible not that that stuff is bad but it was incredible. As an aside as a horror film recommendation the first terminator (1984) is a more of a horror than a sci-fi action film like the 2nd, you should try that.

There is a mix of real footage and "movie" footage when they are at the wreck of the ship! James Cameron has gone to the wreck multiple times before and after filming. Also random fact, James Cameron was down at the wreck when 9/11 happened and there is footage of when he came back to the surface of Bill Paxton telling him all about the attacks.

As far as I know, down by the wreck when you see what the robot camera sees, they are real footage from the real Titanic wreck.
