This is awesome! Love the reaction! If you guys aren’t aware, and want more hunger games, there’s a Prequel movie called The Ballad Of Songbirds And Snakes, and there is another Hunger games movie coming out in November called Sunrise On the Reaping! Love the reaction especially so for to how you are reacting to Gale being the strategist during the meetings. In the books it’s shown a bit more, but Katniss describes him as a genius when it comes to traps and snares. It’s why he becomes so good at trapping people in 2. He’s able to look at it like hunting an animal

I have been waiting to watch ALL of the hunger games movies and prequel with you both. I have not yet seen the prequel and was hoping to get to watch it with you. Nobody will watch it with me in person.

They don't go into detail about it in the movies but the creatures that attack them here and in the first film are genetic mutations "mutts" the Capital has developed. Here they are some kind of lizard-human amalgamation designed to hunt down Katniss. In the first movie those dogs were described as being modeled after the dead participants, having "human looking eyes" but that didn't carry into the movies. Extremely disturbing.

Others have said it, but I will pile on as well. Please watch Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes! It is such a good prequel. Unlike some other prequels for book-to-film adaptations, it is based on the author's original work, as she wrote a prequel after finishing the main Hunger Games series.

The letter at the end was supposed to be lines delivered by Hoffman but they found a way around it I actually prefer. Him not been there lends it a different sort of forlon quality, it seems even more apologetic.

to Mikey @1H:41 ish...... the worst part is this was 100x more terrifying in the books. I do think they got the monsters right in the sense that they are horrifying, but my imagination of the mutts based on the book description was so much more unsettling. If that wasn't enough.....the events of their attack is WAYYYY worse in the books 😬 they toned this scene down for the movie

Johanna in the books is really good and fleshed out. I think after she became a victor they murdered all of her loved ones in order to keep her in line but it didn't really work. It just ticked her off more and make her even more bitter and tragic. Then they threw her in the games again. Then they tortured her. In the final book she works out with Katniss to become real soldiers and go to war. They even become roommates.

Remember the Wolf-Dog things from the first movie? They are made with the same technology as the creatures from the black lagoon, there. They are referred to as Mutts. Although, I cant remember exactly what they are. Some kind of genetic mutation made for killing.

I missed this storyline on the screen. They did a fantastic job with the adaptations and even the representation of PTSD but I missed Johanna’s storyline being more featured and an explanation (other than the obvious) of why she had such a hard time coming back after being held captive. I wish they had been able to keep some other parts from the series including your point.

I don’t know if you picked up on this because it was subtle, but when Katniss put the nightlock pill in her outfit, it was because after killing Coin she tried to take the pill to end herself, but Peeta noticed and smacked it out of her hand because he didn’t want her to die.

The nightlock pill ... after Katniss shot Coin, she did put her hand up to get the pill to take it herself. But Peeta stepped in and ripped the pocket off it was in, that's why she gasped and looked at him shocked. Katniss didn't think anyone would know she had planned to take it.
