American Mum Reacts

I get chills every time they say 'There's 2,200 souls on board sir'

MomzillaAngie

Awesome reaction guys! Solid gold (without all the dancers)! 💜

Lots of characters and stories are real, including the band continuing to play and the unsinkable Molly Brown, but Jack and Rose were not real people

Fun titanic lore here. I used to work for Fairmont hotels, cant remember which property it was that the lore is about but one of the properties in Canada was being constructed and opened during this time period. The furniture for the property was on board the titanic and didnt arrive delaying the opening. Little known secret, but every fairmont hotel afterwards would have have a major setback during opening which they deemed the fairmont curse. I thought it was all bs during onboarding until a month before our opening we had a CO2 leak in the building that hospitalized some folks. About a year AFTER opening a pipe burst on one of the upper floors. I worked on the 7th floor which was a gorgeous super fancy ornate floor with a marble lobby that almost felt like stuff youd see on the titanic. When that pipe burst 30 floors up it came through the ceiling of the 7th and through the elevator shaft. I remember standing in a foot of water with crystal chandeliers around and marble flooring, thousands of dollars worth of expensive furniture getting ruined and I got this super eerie feeling that instantly made me think about the titanic.

Everything about Jack and Rose is fake. Everything about the Titanic and the disaster are as accurate to the first-hand accounts as possible.

After Capt. Smith says, "I believe you may get your headlines, Mr. Ismay," that was when cassette one ended and you had to eject it to watch cassette two, back when it was a two-tape box set on VHS. Then you resume the story with Cal stank-facing Rose before slapping the shit out of her. It was an ABRUPT change in tone to say the least. But I think it worked as far as reaffirming that this is as much a story about class inequality as it is about a sinking ship.

The captain, Ismay, the 1st & 2nd officers loading lifeboats, Andrews, the rich elderly couple who elected to die together, the band, the ‘statistics,’ the timing of events, probably even the decor—all that was real. My intellectual side knows that Rose & Jack were not, BUT: Arguments persist to this day about whether real people might be suggested in those characters. Also arguments persist about whether that wooden door could have held them both. LOL

The real heroes that the movie doesnt show are the men shoveling coal into the generators to keep power on for as long as possible even though they where already trapped and doomed to die themselves, notice how long it took for the power to go out, the whole time men shoveled away to help give the others a chance to live. This movie is a classic, but the main characters are fictional and dramatized. There are several good documentaries out there.

Detective Elle

Oh wow I never even thought about that after all this time.
