They use the line" Im a coward" for both characters I feel like they were trying to convey how not seizing the moment can end. One has to live with the thought of what if, and the other only got to experience love for a short time. And I'm with you DC, he should have told him and let him make his own choice, but that's also apart of him being a coward. It would have been more painful though to have those years and then he dies, but I guess "better to have loved"
