One of the better mcu films, I really loved the mental illness angle, the surprise horror elements. A step in the right direction

Happy Friday and Happy 4th of July, Addie! I'm so glad that you enjoyed Thunderbolts* (2025). My girlfriend & I saw it in IMAX and we both enjoyed it. This is my favorite MCU movie that came out this year.

Happy 4th of July Friday, Addie! 🎆🎇 This is the perfect movie to watch for today. I did get to see this one in the theater. And loved it! The whole cast was fantastic. However, Florence Pugh and Lewis Pullman were the two stand outs. Phenomenal moments with those two characters. Fun Fact: This is the second time that Lewis Pullman has played a character named 'Bob'. The first time was in "Top Gun: Maverick". Definitely looking forward to watching this reaction later this evening. Have a great day today & a weekend! 😊

I saw this movie 6 times in the theater 😭

This movie has a better “audience” rating than Endgame and Infinity War on Rotten Tomatoes btw…

Nice! I was hoping this would go up soon. Been wanting to check it out again. Any plans to watch Ironheart?

Doug

(Lol, I'm laughing a little since Brave New World is the only other MCU movie that came out this year. But yeah, Thunderbolts is definitely better than that! 😄)

Bob.... seemed so familiar. Then in the Stark tower it finally clicked..... BOB from Maverick! That blew me away! The initial picture we see of a "shadow" reminded me of Iron Man 3 how there were people who died and their shadows remained. Some fight sequences, recent Marvel content was lacking something, they weren't as polished and intense as we've gotten used to. This had what's been missing. This made me a fan again. ADD-E... OLL-E... JEREM-E... I hope you all have a safe and wonderful 4th of July!

I enjoyed this in the theater. Looking forward to checking it out again

That was a fun ride! I'm SO excited for Fantastic Four!

Happy 4th of July

I like this film even a little better on the second watch than when I saw it in theaters, it's definitely one of the better MCU films all around. 🙂 And it seems fitting to post some random, disorganized thoughts about it: - Julia Louise-Dreyfus is fantastic, she's definitely one of my favorite MCU villains to date. A bunch of more mediocre MCU films have villains who are either overly brooding, one-dimensional, or even boring or forgettable. De Fontaine though has a sense of humor, actually seems to enjoy her job, and is complicated enough that we can't really tell how much she's motivated by selfish gain versus actually, as she puts it, wanting to be a "bad guy who takes out worse guys". - All the cast is solid but I feel like Red Guardian is the break-out character here, just like he was in Black Widow. Heck, the fact that another "New Avengers" movie would mean getting more of Red Guardian makes me excited for that possibility. 😄 - If I had to pick a disappointing part, it would be how they did Taskmaster dirty. I was really hoping they'd take the opportunity to actually try and give Taskmaster a fun or interesting personality to explore to match the great fight scenes she has in both this and Black Widow, but instead they killed her off just a few minutes into her reappearance. Ah well, at least she got to do some cool moves before she died. 🤷‍♂️ - So this is the second film in a row (the other being Brave New World) where the climax of the film is the heroes talking the unstoppable bad guy down. I wonder if the trend will continue in Fantastic Four.... 🤔 - Behind the scenes, I've read they had originally recast Laurence Fishburne as Doctor Foster, who was Ava's mentor in Ant Man and the Wasp and who had left with her at the end of that film to help her get back on her feet. But apparently they decided Foster's character wasn't a good fit for the film because he didn't share the same kind of trauma in his backstory so they just didn't end up including him. (Even so, if you Google the Thunderbolt's cast, Fishburne's name does come up. 🙂) - For anybody curious, in the comics The Thunderbolts were originally a series that started out as a story where an unexpected group of superheroes saved New York and were celebrated by the city. But then in the last panel of the first book, when the heroes were out of public eye, they unmasked and it turned out that it was Zemo and a bunch of supervillains he had recruited to pretend to be a superhero team so they could eventually weasel their way into power in the government, etc. (It's probably one of the best surprise twists in a comic book ending ever!) As time went on, though, and the Thunderbolts actually helped people to maintain their cover, it became a redemption arc for a bunch of them because they began to realize they actually liked helping others out more than they did being villains and mercenaries. Eventually after that initial series ended, other series came out with teams calling themselves The Thunderbolts who were more like DC's The Suicide Squad where they were supervillains who were granted early release if they joined a government sponsored super-squad. But that first, original story of super-villains who start out "pretending to be heroes" as a scheme but who eventually actually grow into the role is still probably my favorite premise of all of them.

A cool little thing I noticed on this rewatch is that in Yelena’s fight scene in a hallway against the security guards at the very start of the film it was shot in a way where everyone was casting long black shadows similar to the ones The Void leaves behind. It’s some neat literal and figurative “foreshadowing”. 😄

Yeah when I saw this in theaters, I noticed it on my second time too.

Oh shit was Bob, Bob in Maverick?

Doug

Started watching Ironheart this week, it’s not bad. 🙂 Addie’s behind on MCU shows in general though, she also hasn’t seen Agatha All Along, season 3 of What If?, or the new Daredevil (or seasons 2 and 3 of the old Daredevil). I have a feeling if or when she watches MCU shows again she’ll probably watch some of those first. 🤷‍♂️

so i learnt about Sentry in in the last few years and im so glad they did this side of him, he's the nuke allegory, hes the 'break in case of emergency' in the comics, for every person Sentry saves, Void kills another, there is no maybe, thats how it goes, if Sentry joins a fight the void will show up, its such an interesting dynamic, because you have to decide if the void is worth defeating whatever they're fighting, and even then, if Sentry is defeated the void shows up (hence the kill switch summoning him), they could do so much with this character, i hope they dont 'cure' him anytime soon as its a brilliant dynamic and also an amazing point of commentary on mental health. i went to see this movie on a whim when i was having a really bad mental health day, i knew nothing about the themes, and im so glad i did, it really was exactly what i need that day. for that it will always be special for me

Missed opportunity to go with the name The Avongers... shirts have already been made as long as you have a drip broker. That scene when Yelena says, "Daddy, I am so alone!" breaks me every time.
