Here's the full length reaction to Ted Lasso 2x12 ("Inverting the Pyramid of Success"). This episode certainly has a lot of ups and a LOT of downs! I'm very interested to see where all of this goes in Season 3. Enjoy!

I said at the beginning you'd get to a point and be surprised at who you hate and who you like. Some feel like Nate's fall is too quick but I think they did a good job laying out the breaking points. It all clearly comes from self-loathing and insecurities from his father, and the position he subconsciously puts Ted in to fill that role. He then blames Ted for his father's actions after any perceived slight, like the photo he thinks Ted removed but actually put up in his home. Or using the False 9 to embarrass Nate when he actually believes in him.

Bet you never thought you’d end up loving Jaime and hating Nate. His excuse for being mad at Ted really is pathetic. But what’s really happening is Nate is substituting Ted for his own dad who he has tons of issues with. I’ve come across people who defend Nate but I can’t.

I think the B in "BILF" was "Boss".

I agree, I think it can be easy to miss on a first watch, but basically everyone around him treats him like a he's a child at fantasy camp. Its that weird thing where you can tell they aren't trying to belittle him, but you can see where he never feels like he's enough. Then, he gets "replaced" in his mind when they bring on Roy who immediately has the gravitas that Nate doesn't. Nate absolutely is over the top in the locker room with Ted, but I think the writer's use that as a tool to show what can happen when you really bottle it all up. Ted bottles and it turns into debilitating panic attacks. Nate bottles until he blows up and says things he probably doesn't really mean.

Nate is completely misdirecting his rage because Ted was like a father figure.

Thanks for these reactions Addie! I had a great time rewatching this show with you. I hope you'll get around to season 3 sooner rather than later, but no pressure!

A lot of people already pointed out Nate was treating Ted like a father figure who he thinks doesn't appreciate him, but on top of that there's also Rupert coming in dressed all in black like an opportunistic Sith Lord whispering in Nate's ear. We don't hear exactly what he says but it's probably reinforcing the belief that he deserves better than Richmond and should be the head coach at Man City instead. By the very end of season 2 Nate is even dressing like Rupert and has silver hair like him, so he's fully transitioned from seeking Ted's approval to seeking Rupert's.
