Happy October everyone! Here's the full length reaction to Shutter Island. This movie blew me away! I think it's in my top two Scorsese films now (it might be tied with The Departed). I don't want to spoil anything, but everyone was incredible in their roles! Enjoy!

Happy Wednesday and Happy October, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Shutter Island (2010) as your favorite Martin Scorsese movie alongside The Departed (2006). Now I REALLY need to have a Scorsese double feature with those movies.

Happy 1st of October Wednesday, Addie! 🎃 This is a great movie to kick off the month. One of my favorite Scorsese/DiCaprio team-up films. Definitely looking forward to watching this one later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

Its crazy to think, at the end, its up to your interpretation of why he made the choice he did

Fantastic reaction. Thanks, Addie. I forgot that Jackie Earle Haley appears in this (as George Noyce). Jackie was awesome as Rorschach in Watchmen (2009): “None of you seems to understand. I'm not locked in here with you. You're locked in here with ME!” That was another great reaction.

BTW, is your necklace the same one you were wearing when you first watched Jurassic Park (1993) and Back to the Future: Part III (1990), or is it a similar one?

Excellent movie. Although between this and Inception I think DeCaprio's characters deserve better spouses! 😯 (Although now that I say that I guess he flips the script in Killers of the Flower Moon, his spouse deserves better in that one!) P.S. Also in the cast was Ted Levine, who's appeared on this channel as Buffalo Bill in Silence of the Lambs and off this channel as Captain Leland Stottlemeyer in Monk. (Love that show! 😄)

I'm not sure how official it is but I read and heard that the last line from Edward to his "partner" (Which would be worse? To live as a monster or to die as a hero?) was a silent confession that he had accepted reality but couldn't live with himself, choosing to be lobotomized rather than living in a world in which he committed these atrocities.

I believe that the main character's last line to his partner "Chuck" at the end, which was "Which would be worse? To live as a monster or to die as a hero?", was a silent admission that he had broken through his delusions but couldn't live with himself. He willingly chose to go through the procedure by giving them what they wanted to hear (him regressing into his delusions once again) in order for them to authorize the lobotomy. It's very sad.

Such a clever, well-structured film. Many films that try to use the end to Change Everything don't quite hold together, but this one is unnerving and logical the whole way through. The thing that I love the most is that we -- the audience -- don't need to trust any of the doctors in order to believe that they're telling the truth at the end about who Andrew Laeddis is. Because we've followed "Teddy" the whole way and, like Dr. Cawley said, there's nothing HERE. We went through the patient wards, and the staff housing, and the isolated lighthouse, and we don't find any underground torture cellars or hidden surgical theaters or anything else. There simply isn't any secret operation going on. So if the whole conspiracy is non-existent, why would they be secretly drugging "Teddy" in the first place? It was the perfect way to prevent the audience from thinking "They're so good at mind control that they brainwashed Teddy into thinking he was Laeddis!" Because we have already followed the whole investigation the whole way through.
