Deepwater Horizon is intense 😬

Alex Tan

Happy Tuesday, Addie. All are great choices but my votes belong to Dante's Peak (1997), The Day After Tomorrow (2004), Poseidon (2006), Cloverfield (2008), 2012 (2009), San Andreas (2015) and Twisters (2024), basically a large half of this poll.

Randee Carreno

Happy Tuesday, Addie! 😊 All great choices for this new poll. "Twisters" got my main vote. With "Dante's Peak" as my second choice. Have a great day today! 😊

Alex Tan

Good votes, Randee. I second your choices.

Philip Davetas

2012 is a great. But I voted for VOLCANO. It's a love letter to Los Angeles.

chris brown

Great movies but for the next disaster movie poll The Towering Inferno (1974)

Alexander George

Hi Addie : yes THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW is definitely the disaster movie to see. A lot of movie reactors have seen this one ... time for you to be included.

Tom W.

If you get motion sickness at all from movies, I urge the utmost caution with Cloverfield.

Tom W.

I really liked the idea, but it fell into the common trap of "found footage" movies where all you can think is "Why is this guy still filming?" At least that was my thought.

Adrian Duenas

If Cloverfield wins, I’ll be a happy camper. Summer 2007, the surprise teaser playing before Transformers was an era

Alex Tan

It's winning. Looks like people here are interested in seeing Addie watch a found footage type movie. Either that or because of it being directed by Matt Reeves who did The Batman (2022) and the Planet of the Apes sequels from the 2010s.

ButtercupsTrueLove

For future consideration in the 'disaster' category, there is "The Impossible" (2012), based on a true story. "Contagion" (2011) is a fun watch (sort of) to see how silly it seemed back in the pre-pandemic days of a global virus rapidly threatening humankind.

Anything but Twisters

Luis Fernandez

The Poseidon Adventure is a must-watch if only because you'll then be able to get Chandler's reference when he acted like Shelley Winters.

AniLunchbox

If this is an all disaster movie list, The Towering Inferno (1974) should absolutely be on it. But by that definition this is 80% 'natural disaster' list, so I'd concede Towering Inferno shouldn't be on this list, and neither should be Cloverfield or Deepwater Horizon.

Alexander George

Ack... looks like I jinxed this! 😀 ... ok Cloverfield it is... its a good movie as well.

Steven Fordham

I'll 2nd the Towering Inferno. Must see disaster movie.

JakeToll

Daylight with Stallone is a good disaster movie that some people never seen before.

Baldemort

Day after tomorrow and cloverfield were fun.

Blind Entertainment

The Day After Tomorrow would have been great during the recent snowstorm that hit the northeast. 2012 is also great though. Roland Emmerich Is the king of disaster movies.

Doug

Cloverfield is definitely my favorite on this one. (I must not be much into disaster movies, none of the others seem that exciting. 🤷‍♂️)

Zephyr (AD)

The Poseidon Adventure (the 1972 one) holds up very well as a disaster movie and general drama/thriller.

Jonah D Jackson

Dante's Peak is a sadly underappreciated gem of unashamed, pure disaster schlock.

Alex Tan

It's winning. Now you're a happy camper.

JAKH

"The Towering Inferno" (1974) "Only The Brave" (2017) *True Story* "The Perfect Storm" (2000) *True Story*

Julian San

You forgot to include the biggest disaster movie: Modern Cinema 😂

David Lucas

This poll is stacked, but I’ve gotta throw my votes behind Dante’s Peak, Cloverfield, and The Day After Tomorrow! 🌋🌪️🌊 Those are absolute must watch disaster movies for a reaction. Dante’s Peak has that classic tension that just keeps building starring Pierce Brosnan and Linda Hamilton, Cloverfield is pure chaotic energy that will have everyone on edge, and The Day After Tomorrow is peak “nature goes completely wild” cinema with Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal. Also, if you ever expand the list, I HIGHLY recommend Greenland (2020) with Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin, that movie is intense from start to finish and the emotional stakes are huge. Disaster movie reactions are the best because there are so many “NO WAY THAT JUST HAPPENED” moments. Whatever wins this poll is going to be a great watch!

Flounder

Volcano is fun in a “it’s so bad” way

Tina P

Most of those I really like, so no matter the choice I will watch. But I voted for Deepwater Horizon (really really good movie based on a true story and worth a watch. and I think not very well known). And for Dante's Peak. My favorite of the list.

Dave Walker

I think the movie "2012" (2009) is the ultimate disaster movie ever, but we are definitely dealing with 'the community' and voters. seen Cloverfield before once don't remember it, so maybe was not all that. I rented "2012" from ITunes and the same day I bought it. Twisters: i think is the worst movie on the list, "Poseidon" is not a disaster movie.

Dave Walker

"Poseidon" (2006) is not a disaster movie, maybe the original fron 1972, not the newer version.

Strangelove50

On the subject of disaster movies, with the threat of nuclear confrontation getting worse, you should do one of the nuclear war flicks from prior decades; perhaps the satirical Dr Strangelove (1964), or the more serious On the Beach (1959) or The Day After (1983).
