Here's the full length reaction to Andor 2x6 ("What a Festive Evening"). I'm officially halfway through Season 2! I imagine there's going to be a lot of loss in the rest of the season, so I'm nervous (but excited) to see what comes next. Enjoy!

The Dude Abides

Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict, Jimmy Smits was unable to reprise his role as Bail Organa, but Benjamin Bratt fills in nicely. Of course Cinta had to die because we can’t have nice things. I can’t wait for you to see episodes 9 and 10

One of the main themes of this episode is Luthen not understanding the human needs of the people in his network. Cassian and Bix, Vel and Cinta, Mon Mothma and Vel. Luthen expects all of them to sacrifice everything, as he has. Like him, they all desperately want to win, but unlike him they don’t want to sacrifice their humanity in the process. The Ghormans were based on the French Resistance of WWII. They used all French actors, and their language and dress was rooted in French culture. I was happy to see Dr. Gorst get a taste of his own torture methods, but it was a little upsetting to me to see Bix be the one to do it. Maybe she needed that to heal, but I’m sure the mission was to kill him and to stop his interrogation method from becoming widely used. She took it upon herself to torture him. That said, I’m happy that Dr. Gorst’s final moments were listening to the “choral, agonized pleading” of massacred Dizonite children. Buckle up, Addie. The last two arcs are some of the best episodes of television I’ve ever seen.

Jinx! I started singing “Ain’t no party, like a Corusant party….” The exact same time you did Addie! 😂 Man! Cyril was so proud of himself! He was absolutely giddy. And poor Cinta 😭 she deserved so much better. But I guess that’s more realistic though. Not everyone goes out triumphantly. Some people die over something stupid. Very tragic I’m glad Luthen sent Cassian and Bix on that mission to get Dr. Ghorst. It’s exactly what she needed. I believe the first time Luthen went to visit Bix. He was assessing her. Possibly contemplating getting rid of her? IDK He needed Cassian focused. But after Cassian confronted him, I’m glad he went with this route. Getting some closure for Bix to heal and move on Oh, and Kleya is a badass. Often tougher than Luthen 😄

I'm not sure I would say that Luthen doesn't understand the human needs of people, I think he just forces himself to demand everything possible from them. In his mind, it doesn't matter how much of yourself you lose while fighting the Empire, because if the Empire isn't defeated, you will eventually lose everything anyway. And so he's forced to "burn his decency" by sacrificing the needs of his comrades. He's "condemned to use the tools of his enemy to defeat them," by treating his friends like tools instead of people, just like the Empire does. It's darkly poetic. It should also be noted, though, that Luthen specifically gave Bix this job to help her overcome her trauma. It can be inferred that he got the information about the Dr. Gorst program from Lonni (who we see distances himself from the program immediately after he learns about it, probably because he knows he has to give this information to Luthen and he might come under suspicion when Luthen inevitably takes Dr. Gorst out). So Lonni leaks the info to Luthen, who in turn gives the job to Bix. And in one fell swoop, he scores a big win for the Rebels, he helps Bix get back on her feet and back into the fight, AND he makes peace with Cassian by doing what he asked.

Billy Dancel

Richard Sammel stars as a villain in one of my favorite Vampire series, The Strain. I was thrilled to see him this season. What could be worse than not being able to get your hidden microphone of an artifact on display? How about having Director Krennic present at the same time?!

I'm mad about Sinta. That kid did the ONE thing they asked him not to do! Reminds me of another hated character that brought a gun to a job and wasn't supposed to. But yeah, I'm glad Bix got her revenge!!
