The winner of our Alfred Hitchcock poll will be up tomorrow! I was reminded on my latest livestream that I haven't watched a single Wes Anderson film, so help me choose one to watch next!

Imo Grand Budapest is the easiest/smoothest entry for new Wes Anderson viewers.

My vote is for "The Grand Budapest Hotel"... Addie I think Darren Aronofsky is another great director you haven't seen any movie

Joshua Miller

I think you need to go in release order

Joe Blankenship

Bottle Rocket!! Start at the beginning! Luke and Owen Wilson are great in it.

Joe Blankenship

Ditto. Because the first 3 are my favorites, haha.

I think I’ve seen some of his earliest films. Bottle Rocket, Rushmore, Royal Tenenbaums. I think I’ve also seen bits and pieces of Grand Budapest Hotel Couldn’t really tell you the plot of any of them. I honestly don’t remember. Maybe I was too young to appreciate them at the time. Or perhaps I’m not “cultured” enough (callback to your Breaking Bad Ice anecdote Addie 😉) I’ll leave it to you Wes Anderson aficionados to select the best choice for Addie

LaserLamb

I've never watched a Wes Anderson movie all the way thru, just bits of Rushmore & Royal Tennenbaums. But when you want a P. T. Anderson movie I heartily recommend Magnolia. 🌸

Luis Fernandez

Excited for this one! I'm a big fan of everything up thru Grand Budapest. (After that I think they are just ok)

Daniel Karlsson

Grand Budapest is fantastic. How Ralph Fiennes didnt get an Oscar nomination is a mystery.

Adrian Duenas

Grand Budapest is my top pick. It’s Wes Anderson at his most Wes Anderson-y. The cast for that movie is INSANE!!!

Rob

Agree. I am disappointed in the lack of love for The Darjeeling Limited though

thebeefmaster

The Grand Budapest Hotel, then Fantastic Mr. Fox

Joe Blankenship

I'm guessing lots of folks haven't seen Bottle Rocket. It's so much fun. I love Darjeeling too.

Joe Blankenship

He got a little "up his own ass" for my taste.

I voted for Darjeeling 2nd after Grande Budapest Hotel. It’s a great movie. Top 3 for me, but looking at the poll, agreed, I don’t think she’d get to it in a while, assuming Addie starts a whole journey through Anderson’s filmography.

Bottle Rocket is also great. Wes has so many great films that it pains me to try to rank them.

Chris Capitano

What about the rest of the mighty duck films? 🤞🤞

There was some competition that year, but part of it is probably just that the Academy doesn't seem to like the acting aesthetic in Wes Anderson's films for whatever reason. As far as I know no actor has ever been nominated for an Academy Award a Wes Anderson film, even though the films themselves have been nominated (Grand Budapest was nominated for Best Picture, Best Direction, and Best Screenplay among other things. Just no actor nominations.) For reference, here were the Best Actor nominees that year. Not a bad list! Eddie Redmayne – The Theory of Everything as Stephen Hawking Steve Carell – Foxcatcher as John du Pont Bradley Cooper – American Sniper as Chris Kyle Benedict Cumberbatch – The Imitation Game as Alan Turing Michael Keaton – Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) as Riggan Thomson

Doug

I suspect Grand Budapest Hotel will win this, I'm pretty sure it's his most popular film. The Wonderful Story of Henry Sugar and Three More actually seems to have the best rating on Rotten Tomatoes, though, which has me kind of curious about that one. (It won't win though, I might end up just watching that one some time. 🤷🏻‍♂️)

Who?
