Happy Wednesday, Addie. I'm so glad that you still had fun watching The Flash (2023), despite its flubs. My girlfriend & I did see it in IMAX 1.90:1, yet became more aware of its flaws throughout, as I look back.

Speaking of Andy Muschietti, who directed this movie, I also suggest It: Chapter 1 (2017) & Chapter 2 (2019), for Halloween. #ItForAddieCounts ...and speaking of Nicolas Cage, who cameos as Superman, from the unmade Superman Lives (1998), I also suggest Con Air (1997) and Gone in 60 Seconds (2000), both produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. #MoreNicolasCageForAddieCounts

I wanted to like this movie but god what a mess, and Ezra Miller needs intensive therapy before he lands himself in prison

If you don’t wanna feel grimy and bad, don’t look up Ezra Miller’s recent behavior. While I never wish for a film’s failure, I’m glad this was the end for him as the character (except for a cameo in another DC project).

To call it not a perfect movie is a massive understatement, Micheal Keaton was by far the best part of the movie and was amazing in every scene, one thing i did learn long after it came out that Nick Cage had no idea he was in this movie. I am glad you had fun though i did enjoy some scenes, it is far from the worst movie i've seen but i'd never recommend anyone watch it, despite everything thats gone on with Ezra Miller i did like his Barry Allen, it will be interesting to see who they'll pick for the new Gunn universe.

The negativity this movie received really demolished my interest in seeing it in theaters. But if you enjoyed it Addie, I’ll check it out tonight. Michael Keaton coming back as Batman is my price of admission.

Between ezra miller as a person and then the gross digital necromancy of christopher reeve that was done without the consent of his family this movie is just a big 👎 for me

Am I the only one that does not give a crap about what an actor does in his perosnal life? I only watch movies to care about whats on screen 🤷 I thought this movie was alright, the CGI was amazing. Not my fav super hero film but far from the worst. Ezra did a good job as flash imo but Michael Keaton stole this movie 🤙

JL_83

sorry to be that person, but I saw this once back in 2023 (not theatrically) and barely remember it, which tells me all I need to know—glad you had some fun with it though

I enjoyed this movie and the fan service. The Flash TV show from 2014 season 1 and 2 is excellent. After that it drops off a cliff. DC does a better job with their TV shows FWIW.

I can't bring myself to watch this again. The only thing I liked about it the first time around was Sasha Calle. Was sad to see her dropped as Supergirl. I'm not a fan of Miller's acting (independent of his off-screen behavior). The only thing I ever liked him in was Perks of Being a Wallflower.

I saw this in theaters and enjoyed the heck out of it, despite some hiccups. The musical chairs with actors in 80’s movies was great and I knew you’d get a kick out of the “twist” at the end. Thanks for a fun addition, Addie!

Yeah this movie's ok. Rotten Tomatoes has it at about 63% and I think that's about where I'd land too, the plot isn't the best and it feels kind of long but it's got some fun bits along the way so it's worth the rental. 😊 For reference for anybody not that familiar with Flash, the story line of him going back in time to try and save his mom and accidentally screwing up the timeline (aka The Flashpoint Paradox story) is a major one in many iterations of his character. This is one of his main defining arcs, it's kind of like his version of the Gwen Stacy tragedy from Spider-Man. Every telling of Flashpoint Paradox is a bit different, but I think my favorite thing that occurs in a lot of them that doesn't happen in this movie is that, when Flash goes to find Batman, he discovers that Bruce's parent's weren't killed in the alley, instead it was Bruce who got shot by the mugger and his father, Thomas Wayne, became Batman instead to avenge his son. I always loved that twist, the Thomas Wayne Batman character is pretty neat, and when they commented on how old Batman was in this film I thought for a minute they might be going that direction with Keaton. So I was a little disappointed they didn't. It felt a little like a missed opportunity, especially since it would have directly explained Batman being much older.

There are a lot of factors that lead the Flash to bomb at the box office. It came out during a packed movie season, and right at the time of the release it was announced the DCEU would be replaced with James Gunn’s DCU. So people didn’t care about any new DCEU movies after that, because they thought they didn’t matter. However the biggest problem that the Flash faced was Ezra Miller. His deplorable behavior led to widespread backlash, and pretty much ended his career. I feel bad everyone who worked on this movie that got hurt due to the film flopping, but Ezra Miller gets no sympathy from me!

Blind Entertainment

Ezra Miller had inappropriate relationships with minors, and is on video assaulting people. Those aren’t minor crimes, and shouldn’t be overlooked, or pushed aside. It’s deplorable behavior, and should be called out, and that person should receive real consequences!

Addie. If you're gonna DC things up. LANTERNS.

I guarantee you, most of us would hate most actors if we dig deep enough to see the crazy shit they do. Most people dont care. The only reason why Flash bombed, was well because it was a pretty average to low average movie overall. If it was an amazing movie objectively, it wouldn't tank no matter what Ezra did. Several movies in history can prove that despite how shitty an actor can be in their personal lives.

Kevin Spacey is a perfect example of someone being a very successful and talented actor but also apparently a pretty terrible person. He's faced multiple charges of sexual misconduct and assault but even so there's no denying a bunch of his movies are still to this day both popular and critically acclaimed. Heck, Baby Driver came out right around the time the accusations against Spacey were gaining traction and it didn't prevent that movie from being quite successful. And even though many people believe OJ Simpson is a murderer, and his Hollywood career after that was basically over, the Naked Gun movies that he was in are to this day still very popular. (The newest Naked Gun even took a pretty funny jab at Simpson, acknowledging that yes, he's in those movies, but they don't condone what he did.) Mind you, celebrities who do terrible things can still face consequences. Bill Cosby is the best example of that, The Cosby Show was a massive television hit but nobody airs reruns of it today because of his conviction on sexual assaults. And Spacey above did get fired from House of Cards, for example, as was MCU Kang actor Jonathan Majors and Charlie Sheen was fired from Two and a Half Men. Mel Gibson is another successful celebrity who has been shunned in various circles because of some of his conduct. I guess the bottom line is that good films and good television shows are still entertaining, even if some of the celebrities who made them turn out later to be awful people behind the scenes. And while that bad behavior can result in those people having difficulty finding future work in the industry, it doesn't usually have much impact on how people enjoy their past projects (with the notable exception of Bill Cosby. RIP the "Cake For Breakfast" monologue. 🤷🏻‍♂️)

The movie certainly has its issues, in particular rather bad cgi and Barry Junior being nearly intolerable, but the movie did give us possibly the best Superwoman and Michael Keaton steals the show as Batman, so I don’t mind it as much as other people seem to. The fan service as you said is also a plus especially since this was the send off to the DCEU.

Joe Blankenship

That's cool that you didn't know Michael Keaton was in this. I went to the theaters to see this because Keaton's in it. I didn't hate this movie. I enjoyed it more watching it with you. But I can't deny that all the CGI stuff at the end is garbage.
