It's almost October, and you know what that means... I'll finally watch a few not-TOO-scary movies! I love this time of year, but I certainly don't love this part! But here we go... give me some not-so-scary movie recommendations for October (aka movies that won't give me nightmares or haunt me forever). I posted Young Frankenstein over here yesterday, and I'm also planning on watching:

Coraline

Hotel Transylvania

Backrooms

Comment below your recommendations for some horror/thrillers that you think I can handle! And if horror isn't your thing, don't worry (it's certainly not my thang either). I'm also planning on watching more of Breaking Bad and Ted Lasso!

2026-09-21 22:00 All of the Universal Monster movies would be good. I'll also throw in Don't Look Under the Bed (1999) for your first DCOM on the channel. For something comedic, then I'll throw in Ready or Not (2019) and its sequel Here I Come (2026). Another slasher I'll also throw in is I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) and it's sequels I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998) & I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025). For something scarier, then I'll throw in The Cell (2000). For something light hearted, Practical Magic (1998), since its sequel just came out. And speaking of sequels, I suggest A Nightmare on Elm Street Part 2: Freddy's Revenge (1985), Scream 2 (1997), Final Destination 2 (2003), A Quiet Place: Part II (2020), 28 Years Later (2025), and Send Help (2026). I cannot guarantee any potential haunts from these suggestions because whatever wins the poll is dependent upon the entire Patreon community.

Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (the sequel) The Others Underwater Trick ‘r Treat The Skeleton Key The Monster Squad The Craft

Larka11037

Highly recommend Trick ‘r Treat! It is a very good movie based on the Halloween traditions.

KingGoji94

More modern: weapons, doctor sleep (sequel to the shining ) nosferatu (2024), hereditary Old school. The omen, maybe the exorcist (might be too much)

Joe Cross

Something Wicked This Way Comes is finally available on Disney+ and is a great spooky more than scary movie Scream 2 Tremors 2

Franco V.

Not so scary movies: -Psycho 2 (1983) 🔪 (obviously not as iconic as the original but this movie is surprisingly good) -Fright Night (1985) 🧛🏻 -Bram Stoker's Dracula (1992) 🧛🏻 -Happy Death Day (2017) 🎂 (This movie is so fun. Not so scary) -X (2022) 🎬 -The Substance (2024) 💉 -Alien: Romulus (2024) 🧑🏻‍🚀 (this movie takes place in the time line between 'Alien' and 'Aliens', so you can watch it without watching the others sequels)

Chris

I think Last Night In Soho could be a good one maybe

Justin

Since you have Scream 1 under your belt and now know it's more a mystery/slasher/who-done-it franchise, I say jump to Scream 2 next.

axr714

Nope (2022)

Adrian Duenas

Dracula (1931) Frankenstein (1931) Cat People (1942) The Uninvited (1944) Arachnophobia (1990) Scream 2 (1997) American Psycho (2000) The Others (2001) Eight Legged Freaks (2002) Final Destination 2 (2003) Frankenstein (2025)

Duane Klaus

Monsters vs Aliens (2009)

Todd Joseph

Dracula (1992) It’s not that scary. AND Keanu Reeves tries his darnedest to do a British accent and it’s adorable. 🙂

SuperAMG1992

I'm honestly not a big scary horror movie fan, but I like ones that don't take themselves too seriously and can have a laugh while your getting scared. Though most laughs in horror movies are due to the acting, which is probably also the scariest part. That being said I'd like to recommend Dracula Dead and Loving it, Van Helsing (2004), Trick 'r Treat, Dracula Untold, all of the Hotel Transylvania films, both Beetlejuice films. Also if you're interested in scary(ish) TV shows, I'd like to recommend Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and the Van Helsing TV Series, both of which are on Netflix.

Jon Anderson

I'll go old school and suggest The Wicker Man (1973) - it's usually filed under horror, but you could just as easily call it a mystery, and should be within your tolerance levels!

Steve SG-1

From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) Event Horizon (1997) Breakdown (1997) Resident Evil (2002) Train to Busan (2016) Late Night with the Devil (2023) Weapons (2025)

ShawnTheMoth

Monster Squad is a perfect not so scary. Also Abbot & Costello Meet Frankenstein

Luis Fernandez

Here's my list: Trick 'r Treat (2007): A sort of anthology film that is more fun than scary - right at Addie's level An American Werewolf in London (1981): This one isn't too high on the scary level and has great humor and brilliant practical effects Any of the original Universal monster films. These are tame by modern standards in their scariness but the storytelling is fantastic. Plus they are hugely influential in movie-making and lay the foundations for later iterations. I'd recommend either Dracula (1931), Frankenstein (1931) + Bride of Frankenstein (1935), The Wolf Man (1941), or The Mummy (1932).

Luis Fernandez

Great list, but special shout out to Eight Legged Freaks. Don't see that one rec'd very often!

Tom W.

The original "Blair Witch Project" movie would be interesting.

Adrian Duenas

That’s exactly why I included it! Such a fun movie and a perfect October reaction

Robert da Spruce

Let me just preface this and say I haven’t watched this film before. So I don’t know how it rates on the Scare-o-meter. But how about Frankenstein (2025)? It seems to be decently rated on IMDB and rotten tomatoes. And it’s classified as Horror/science fiction. So hopefully more action scary, rather than straight horror. And stars Oscar Isaac from Star Wars and Dune

Franco V.

Some requests for Beetlejuice... Addie I think you've already seen it right? (at the beginning of the channel?) Since that reaction is no longer available could be a good time to make a new reaction of that movie. Some years have passed I dont think you remember much 😄

Baldemort

You should add Markipliers movie "Iron Lung" (2026) to the poll! Much like backrooms, its based on the video games. Ill also throw my hat in for "Train to Busan"

Doug

I think my top overall October suggestion is Good Boy (2025). It’s a little creepy but the dog being the star makes up for it. Along the lines of horror movies I bet you can handle (I think you’ve definitely seen scarier) - An American Werewolf in London (1981) - Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon (2006) - Let the Right One In (2008) - Drag Me To Hell (2009) - Triangle (2009) - It Follows (2015) - M3gan (2022) - Cocaine Bear (2023) - Companion (2025) P.S. Leslie Vernon is a horror comedy mockumentary, the others are just horror/thriller movies. (I looked around for “horror comedies” and it looks like you already watched many of the really funny ones like Shaun of the Dead and Tucker and Dale vs Evil. 🤷‍♂️)

Adrian Duenas

Addie reacted to Sleepy Hollow last year

Norman

There's a great Brian De Palma horror film starring the actress who played Lois Lane in Superman as "Sisters" (1972).

Jasbro

I already mentioned It Follows, i definitely think you can handle that its more suspensefull horror than horror horror, Happy Death Day is also a fantastic slasher movie with a groundhog day twist. Maybe some more classic horror/slasher since you've already seen Nightmare on Elm Street and Halloween, like Friday the 13th or even delve into the sequels of those 2 you've seen.

Charles Green

-The People Under the stairs. -The original Amityville horror . -Scary movie 2 .

firegrilled

For not so scary, I’d go for The Monster Squad for sure. There’s an underrated sci fi movie called Virus that’s on the fence. That’s all I can think of right now.

Ian Forbes

The Monster Squad (1987)

Alexander George

Here is something totally outside of the box that is not terribly gruesome or horror - filled... HAPPY DEATH DAY (2017)

David hess

Hocus pocus 1993 Pumpkinhead 1988 The invisible man 2020

JL_83

Cape Fear (1991) Identity (2003)

Abraham Blea

Thrillers: The Game, Arlington Road, Outbreak Horror: Sinister, Beetlejuice, Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead

Milton Reduxed

Teenage Horror • Cabin Fever (2002) • The Faculty (1998) • The Blob (1988) Family-friendly • Elvira: Mistress of the Dark (1988) • Ed Wood (1994) • Matinee (1993)

StonedTrunks

Trick R Treat Evil Dead Friday the 13th Gonjiam Haunted Asylum

thebeefmaster

The Entity (1982) If you do "The Entity", be prepared. It is based on a true story and rather shocking and violent against the female lead character. Devil (2010)

JakeToll

Idle Hands (1999) The Frighteners (1996) Flatliners (1990) Don't Breathe (2016) Don't Breathe 2 (2018)

Steve Mercier

Late Night with the Devil (2024)

Rey

Cant wait for backrooms! The Menu is really good if you want something that is horror lite with a little dark comedy mixed in Or maybe you wanna go full horror than I can recommend The VVitch

AJ

Nightmare Before Christmas Sleepy Hollow

Fernando

Addie, you MUST watch The Mist (2007) It's more thought provoking than it is scary. Fall (2022)

Sean

Sci-Fi horror is Pandorum.

EmAtinyDragon

She's already seen Beetlejuice unless you mean the sequel?

The Dude Abides

You sure about that because I just checked and I can’t find a video of her watching Beetlejuice

EmAtinyDragon

-Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995) by Mel Brooks -Unbreakable (2000) by M. Night Shyamaylan -The Village (2004) by M. Night Shyamaylan -9 (2009) -Pitch Black (2000) -A Haunting in Venice (2023)

Joe Blankenship

FRIDAY THE 13TH. It's a classic. Needs to be seen. If not for October, there's a Friday the 13th in November.

The Dude Abides

Event Horizon and Train to Busan are probably more scary than Addie is comfortable with

The Dude Abides

If I remember correctly, she doesn’t particularly enjoy zombie movies

Tim Donnelly

Practical Magic (1998) I think you will like this one, they just came out with Practical Magic 2 also, I don't know anything about the new one, but the first one was good.

EmAtinyDragon

Oh! I just saw you mention DCOMs! I loved Mom's Got a Date with a Vampire and Phantom of the Megaplex.

Alex Tan

I second those as well. They're real bangers here. In her December 2022 Q&A, Addie mentioned that her favorite DCOM was High School Musical (2006), given her history with musical theater and apparently she hasn't watched one for the channel, so Mom's Got A Date With A Vampire (2000) & Phantom of the Megaplex (2000) are perfect fits here.

Alex Tan

Beetlejuice (1988) was one of her prototype reactions, alongside ET The Extra Terrestrial (1982), Ghostbusters (1984) and Edward Scissorhands (1990). I would love to see Addie rewatch those on the channel.

Daniel Goldberg

I think Undertpne is very underrated . More of a psychological thriller than horror, but a good choice for spooky season.

Strangelove50

Mr. Brooks (2007) w/ Kevin Costner, a quirky 'root for the villain' thriller The Vanishing (1988 foreign/Swedish version and 1993 English version) Disturbia (2007): modern day Rear Window w/ Shia LeBeouf and David Morse The Number 23 (2007): forgotten, underrated psych thriller w/ Jim Carrey Changeling (2008) w/ Angelina Jolie; horrifying true story of corruption and evil surrounding a late 1920's kidnapping. I'm surprised no one has reacted to this yet, would love to see you be the first!

Well-Sewn

Slither is a good one. Pays homage to the early 80’s horror films, but manages a good bit of humor in the mix. For a slightly crazier ride, one of the Dark Castle series - Thirteen Ghosts or Ghost Ship, I’d say.

Aaron

Paranorman

EmAtinyDragon

Yes! I loved her reaction to Signs 😅

EmAtinyDragon

It's on her Letterboxd 🤷‍♀️

JAKH

"Mr. Brooks" (2007) - suspense/thriller "Kiss the Girls" (1997) - suspense/thriller w/ Morgan Freeman "Along Came a Spider" (2002) - suspense/thriller, sequel to "Kiss the Girls" "Copycat" (1995) - suspense/thriller w/ Sigourney Weaver "Manhunter" (1986) - suspense/thriller w/ William Petersen "Tremors 2: Aftershocks" (1996) - comedy "Elvira: Mistress of the Dark" (1988) - comedy "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (1992 original movie) - comedy "Wolfman" (2010 version) - supernatural suspense w/Anthony Hopkins, Benecio Del Toro "John Carpenter's Vampires" (1998) - action/suspense/comedy "Seth McFarlane's Spawn" (1997) - animated - the HBO animated movie, not the live action dumpster fire

Fernando

Yes she's done signs. One of her best reactions. IMO.

MattTheHazard

Don't Breathe (2016) Alien: Romulus (2024) Nope (2022)

Shooter The Emu With A Gun

Your calling Watership Down a thriller? I personally wouldn't classify it as such but any chance to have Addie react to it is enough for me.

Shooter The Emu With A Gun

The Frighteners yes, a solid mix of comedy horror and solid story telling. It is one I think Addie would genuinely enjoy.

AJ

It's IMDB that tags it a thriller, along other things, so yeah, figured why not add it! https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0078480/ Any reason I can add it to a list so 𝓐̰𝓭̰𝓭̰𝓲̰𝓮̰ watches it, is a definite plus for me to do so!

Grant

I would suggest Monolith and Last Night In Soho. Both from 2022 (I think). Technically, neither is a horror film (at least not in the sense of stomach-churning, blood and guts stuff) but both are very thought provoking. You won't have nightmares with either 😉 Oh, and Near Dark from 1987. Gotta love Kathryn Bigalow

Joe Mallard

Cape Fear, the Robert De Niro one.

Vash

Nightcrawler (2014) Not a horror but a great thriller

Spade_6♠️

I hate scary movies, so these are my lighthearted picks! Unbreakable (2000) - Not scary, but definitely a thriller Monster House (2006) - A classic! The Menu (2022) - My number 1 recommend! American Psycho (2000) - “Slasher” category, maybe? Parasite (2019) - First foreign film to win best picture at the Oscars!

Tim Boxall

Watched "Housebound" last night, and I reckon it'll fit the bill perfectly!

Philip Davetas

I haven't seen BACKROOMS yet, but I'll be happy to join in when you post it.

Philip Davetas

THE MONSTER SQUAD is one of my favorites. Ex-wife took that in the divorce. But it's an early Shane Black.

Joe Cleveland

I'm new here, and late to this post, and it's not a scary movie, but my favorite fall movie is the Hitchcock film The Trouble with Harry.
