Far from perfect but I still like this movie, I liked the darker approach to the hulk. I prefer my hulk stories darker

This one seems to get a lot of hate. I actually think it’s pretty good I think I’ve seen it more times than the Ed Norton MCU movie

Steve SG-1

First Marvel movie of the year? I don't remember much but I look forward to watching later tonight.

I’d love for you to do more films from this film’s director Ang Lee. Kind of incredible how diverse his work is, ranging from a psychological drama disguised as a superhero movie (this one) to a Western romance (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN), from a British period drama (SENSE AND SENSIBILITY) to a martial arts film (CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON) and a 3D epic (LIFE OF PI) and more.

2026-10-04 12:00 I love Ang Lee’s arthouse style but I’ve always been too hesitant to revisit this one. Eight year old me couldn’t grasp what was going on and the whole use of comic book panels was too on the nose

2026-10-04 12:00 Happy Friday, Addie. The Hulk (2003) is one of my childhood gems, especially since this movie and the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy were my earliest exposures to Marvel movies, pre dating the MCU. When I was 5, I had the merch, including the backpack with wheels, the lunchbox, and the dinnerware. I now own this movie on DVD in both Widescreen (1.85:1) & Full Screen (1.33:1) formats. As I got older, I started to understand the story and the characters a lot more, from Bruce & Betty's relationship to Bruce's relationship with his father David.

Speaking of Ang Lee, I also suggest Gemini Man (2019) with Will Smith & Will Smith and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer. #GeminiManForAddieCounts

This movie is a little underrated but still it's far from being as good as other superhero movies of the early 2000s like Spiderman or X-Men

"The second I see that a reptile has legs I'm fine" (Addie about snakes) 😂

HULK SMASH GENERATIONAL TRAUMA. HULK NEED THERAPY.

was never really a fan of this one…sorry to be THAT person, though I really did like Nolte’s performance

I originally saw this with high expectations but regretfully I came away disappointed. Ang Lee is a gifted director but missed the boat on this one. His psychological deep dive into Bruce Banner's trauma was a slow slog with little payoff. This was an overly complicated screenplay that forgot the spirit of what Stan Lee and Jack Kirby created. Ang Lee's earlier "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" (2000) is beautiful ode to Chinese martial arts films, and it's troubling that he took a step backwards with "Hulk".

Luis Fernandez

I love Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly as actors, but I'm just not a fan of this movie. "Don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry." is a very famous quote from the Hulk series. Might be from the comics? Not sure about that, never read that series.

Philip Davetas

Oof. I suppose this is an interesting experiment to watch for better or worse.

It’s been a good 15+ years since I watched this film. I forgot it was filmed in the Bay Area. I remember taking a field trip to the Lawrence Berkeley Lab, where the fictional research facility is, when I was in elementary school The story dragged more than I remembered. Particularly in the middle. I like the origin story. But it seemed to take forever for them to explain what happened on the base. Everyone was awful to Bruce but no one would explain why 😭 Not as good as I remember. But the cast still make it watchable

Doug

Yeah, this one is definitely hit or miss. The action scenes like the fight against the tanks are pretty decent, but the movie kind of drags a lot of the time and the story as a whole is a little bit of a mess. The editing to make it look like frames in a comic book was intentional, but unfortunately also a little too distracting. Also all the close ups of the Hulk's face when he's being introspective about something just look kind of bad, he just looks like kind of an expressionless dope when he's just being calm. I'm sure some of that is the CGI tech was still kind of in an early stage compared to later films, later films and shows didn't have this problem, but whatever the reason it doesn't come across well. So I'd give this one maybe 6/10. I've definitely seen worse movies, and it has fun parts, but compared to practically all the other Marvel movies it comes up short, and it's also a relatively weak offering from Ang Lee compared to a bunch of his other films (e.g. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; Brokeback Mountain; Life of Pi)

Philip Davetas

I dig Ang Lee as a director, but I don't know what he was thinking with this flick. I haven't watched this reaction, but I figure Addie is going to sugar-coat it so I don't want to see her be fake.
