I've already mentioned that I'm planning on watching Backrooms later in October! Do I need to watch any of the Backrooms YouTube videos before watching the movie? If you all vote yes, I will likely watch the videos on my own time instead of recording a reaction to the videos. Vote and let me know your thoughts!

Watch the very first short kane made. Not a necessity but just to get the vibe of the backrooms

Robert da Spruce

I have never seen the movie, so I honestly don’t know I’ll be watching it for the first time along with you 😬

Brian Leonard

Where is the option for "There are YouTube videos?"

Supr

Definitely not required viewing, they provide a tiny bit of context but aren't following any kind of storyline or traditional narrative. That being said I do believe the first YouTube one is worth watching before you watch the movie but entirely up to you

fromage

No you can approach the movie blind, and I recommend that. It’s the best way, so you can discover the concept as the movie’s characters do. Watch the YouTube videos after.

Chris

Definitely don't need to, just depends how much lore you want. Movie stands by itself though.

Joe Blankenship

I've not heard one good thing about Backrooms.

Simon

Nope, no need to. But especially if you wouldn’t record your reactions. Perhaps after watching the movie you could check some of them out; you should definitely watch The Oldest View and post your reaction to it though.

Franco V.

About the previous poll... Will you be watching Train to Busan? or just Carrie?

Jeff I.

No need to. Better to go in to a movie like Backrooms as blind as possible if you have the option.

Adrian Duenas

87% on RT and a 76 on Metacritic

John W Foster

My son (27) and I watched it blind (he knew a little bit about it), and it worked fine.

AJ

Blind, always, BLIND!

AJ

Sure, get the vibe of them where it started.. after you watch the movie!

Christian

I saw it w/out watching the youtube videos and I didnt feel that i needed more context. i'm sure someone out there wants you to react to the youtube videos tho.

Christian

I liked it a lot.

sb

Definitely not required.

Rey

They are def not neccessary but some of them are really cool and fun. Kane pixels youtube channel are the only ones that would be considered canon for the movie. And dont worry about the video games or anything those are different than kanes version of the backrooms He also has his first short film on the channel called the oldest view, its essentially a found footage movie of a man finding a staircase in the woods that leads to an underground abandoned mall, its a really fun liminal horror short in its own right

Doug

I could be wrong, but Addie only mentioned planning to watch Carrie in her end of month subscriber letter, not Train to Busan, which normally means she's not planning to watch it. (I'm betting she's keeping it on the short list for polls though.)

phil v

I didn't see the videos and I enjoyed the movie thoroughly

BJ Stephens

Your anecdotal experience doesn't mean much.

BJ Stephens

I would say watch the movie, and if it interests you enough, check out the YT content to explore it some more. Though as some others have said you might just watch Kane's very first Backrooms video if you really want to get a teaser of an idea of what you're going into.
