Poor Carrie! I’ve heard good things about the new tv show. I’ve loved Mike Flanagan’s work since his The Haunting of Hill House tv series so I’m stoked for his new Carrie.

I’m sure quite a few people will mention it, but I do HIGHLY recommend Mike Flanagan’s Carrie tv show that came out last week. It includes book elements that aren’t in this movie, and the story is modernized so the school bullying is WAY more cruel

Happy Wednesday, Addie. I'm so glad that you watched Carrie (1976), despite being freaked out in several scenes. I've only seen the 2013 version so I am also suggesting that one for you. #Carrie2013ForAddieCounts

This is the kind of movie that leaves you with a nice warm feeling. Very warm. Hot, even.

This is a good one. In another universe, Carrie is discovered by Charles Xavier and taken to a special school. I haven't checked out the new TV show. I'm hopeful, but Mike Flanagan is hit-and-miss for me.

there’s a spin-off to this movie called Addie 😉

Another movie based on a Stephen King book to add to your list Addie. I hope that someday you'll be ready to watch 'It' (both versions) My favorite Stephen King story.

Addie here's some interesting facts about the actresses in this movie: P.J. Soles plays Norma (the girl with the red hat) You saw her in the first Halloween movie, she was one the two Jamie Lee Curtis friends. Nancy Allen plays Chris. You saw her in Robocop as Lewis, also she was married to Brian DePalma in the 80s (I think they met in the set of Carrie) Amy Irving plays Sue. She was Stephen Spielberg's first wife and she is the mother of his elder son.

The prom scene used to scare the ever loving crap outta me when I was a kid. Like, I literally would go running out of the room, SCARED.

they drop a snake on her, then she karate hands all of them.

That's definitely a young John Travolta. 😊 This was his first successful movie (he had a minor role in another forgettable supernatural horror film a year before Carrie came out, but otherwise he had only done television including his big breakout in Welcome Back, Kotter.) This was also Brian De Palma's first breakout successful film as well, he had done other films before Carrie but this one really put him on the map. (On the channel Addie's also watched his film The Untouchables, which personally I think is his best movie, and the first Mission Impossible movie, which is... ok. 😄) And yeah, the opening locker room nudity does feel pretty gratuitous. 🤷🏻‍♂️ But otherwise the movie seems to hold up pretty well.

Carrie burns down the gym, and Addie's like "good for her!"

You know someone deserves it when ADD-E says, "Can you die, please, this is taking a long time." at the end.... Jump scare moment of 2026?

Stunningly, Sissy Spacek was 26 when Carrie was filmed. To my eyes she didn't look more than 18. In fact Amy Irving, who played Sue, was the youngest cast member at 22. It was perfect casting, Sissy looked so young, fragile & innocent. Brian DePalma is known for edgy violence & sexuality in his movies. He wasn't invading the private space of teen girls just for exploitation's sake. He was trying to juxtapose 2 ways of acknowledging the female body; the 1st is a sugar-coated fantasy of femininity, with the camera gazing lustfully at young beauty, then confronting the reality of innocence maturing, & growing into what a female body is capable of doing, being not just something to look at, coupled with the fear of a girl who had no idea what was happening. In a way, it seems Carrie's mother was right. There was a lot of mean-spirited demonic people in Carrie's world, & then she kills everybody horribly at the prom. That seems pretty demonic to me.

When I watched the movie for the first time, I was surprised at how relatively tame the horror is. Then I remembered that it was made in a different era, when blood and gore weren't necessary to shock and scare audiences.

The movie already starts out pretty creepy with the whole panning through a highschool locker room. I also dont have any issues with nudity in movies/shows, but I was really uncomfortable during that sequence. The 70's really were a different time. On a side note..."Carrie, kill her a little bit" is probably the funniest reaction I've heard from Addie 😂

I'm a paid subscriber, but I don't have a copy of the movie. I hope you do a YouTube reaction

It’s very different from the book. It starts different, ends different, character motivations are different, Carries powers and parents are different.

Is it???? Golly good thing I didn’t call it a faithful adaptation in my comment
