Here's the full length reaction to National Lampoon's Vacation! I wanted to go ahead and watch this one because I'm currently on vacation!! Whoooo! It was the perfect movie to get me excited for a trip :) Since I've already seen National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, I knew that the Griswold family would get into some trouble, but I didn't quite expect the WILD ride that they went on hahaha. Fingers crossed that my trip doesn't quite end up like theirs. Enjoy!

Happy Wednesday, Addie. I'm so glad that National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) got you hyped for your own vacation. I do hope that you & Jeremy have fun and I have complete faith that yours WON'T end up like theirs.

Randee Carreno

Happy Wednesday, Addie! 😊 I'm so excited that you're watching the first "National Lampoons Vacation" movie. This, and "Christmas Vacation", are my two favorites in the 'Vacation' movie series. Since you've already watched the Christmas one and now the first one, hopefully you'll be able to finish the series with "European Vacation" and "Vegas Vacation" at some point. I hope that you're having a great time on your vacation. Have a great rest of the day! 😊

Yes, that's Anthony Michael Hall (i.e. Brian from "The Breakfast Club" and the douchebag boyfriend from "Edward Scissorhands") as Rusty. He and Dana Barron (Audrey) were both originally supposed reprise their roles in the sequel "European Vacation," but Hall turned down the role to be in John Hughes' "Weird Science" instead, thus leading both of them to be recast in "European Vacation" as well as leading to the running joke of both Rusty and Audrey being played by different actors in every subsequent movie. It also annoys me that Warner Brothers apparently can't be bothered to spring for the clearance to once again use the Pointer Sisters song "I'm So Excited" during Clark's 2 on-the-road encounters with the girl in the red Ferrari. Instead they replaced it with the song that was used during their middle encounter at the rest stop on both occasions. "I'm So Excited" just made it all feel so much more urgent.

As far as I'm concerned, she's now seen the only 2 "Vacation" movies worth seeing, so I'm perfectly fine with her ending it here.

I stand firm with Randee Carreno. National Lampoon's European Vacation (1985) & Vegas Vacation (1997) should be a package deal after this movie. I bet that she'll enjoy them as well.

Addie, "I do love dogs..." Oh no... This one is going to hurt.

Luis Fernandez

Great reaction, Addie. Don't know if you noticed, but the "Holiday Road" song was by Lindsey Buckingham, who is best known for his work with Fleetwood Mac.

Ironically, the actor who plays the clerk at the Colorado campground (Brian Doyle Murray -- Bill Murray's older brother) also plays Clark's boss in "Christmas Vacation."

Benjamin Hall

“European Vacation coming soon?

Must have been 1967 cause I wasn't even in school yet. Dad always took us to Tahoe or Vegas and then Disneyland. This year was different. We started from Seattle heading down the I-5 and at some rest stop near the California boarder of Oregon we stopped; it was late at night (dark). Dad said: "If you need to go you better go cause we're not stopping." I said No I didn't need to go. The rest of them piled out. After a few minutes I decided that I better go. So I went... Looking back I remember not seeing anyone as I went to the restrooms and thought it was weird but went anyway. I came out a few minutes later to find the car gone... The shock, horror, terror over whelmed me. I ran towards the 'exit'/'onramp' to the freeway, crying and screaming: "Dad!" I didn't see any cars; no headlights, no tail lights! No one. I collapsed on the curb, continuing to cry with my head down. It was a long long time before I saw some headlights coming down the 'ramp'; then I heard the horn on the car honking... "Get in the car!!!" My dad yelled. Being overwhelmed again I couldn't help but to sob and cry and jumped into the car. About a week later while we were in Tahoe, my brother dared me to put a coin into a slot machine. We were with our mom heading back to the room. I told him that I'd do it but he's got to pull the lever! So we did it. Then the 'alarm' started ringing and it scared the crap out of us and we just ran! LOL Kids are not supposed to gamble so we knew we were in trouble and that's why we ran. A week or so later we're in LA going to Disneyland! We're at a hotel and Dad had some business to take care of so we stayed at the hotel that day. We went into the pool. Bobby decided to go to the deep end - on the other side of the rope. After a few moments he started drowning... I went to save him, trying to hold onto the rope. He grabbed me and drove me down, I lost my grip on the rope. He started climbing on top of me, pushing me down further... After some terror filled moments I felt the floor of the pool with my feet. I grabbed him and with all my might I pushed him towards the other side. Not being able to hold my breath any longer I inhaled some water; I couldn't see but failed towards where the rope should be... Not there... Took another effort to lunge towards the rope... Finally grabbed onto it... Pulled myself up. Yes, because earlier in the year is when I first learned how to cook "Eggs over easy!" lol Been cooking ever since! Not a Griswold vacation but a memorable one none the less. From about Sacramento to virtually Downtown LA it was almost all orange trees! Then again from just south of downtown LA to maybe a mile or so from Disneyland; all orange trees. The biggest building in LA was the county court house! Ya could see it for miles; that and orange trees!
