The departed 🤩

Absolutely no bad picks here. Went with Goodfellas since it’s the most out of your wheelhouse of expectations. Seven is so good though too. And so is a good few men…

Alex Tan

Happy Thursday, Addie. I do hope that you & Jeremy are enjoying your vacation. My votes go for Goodfellas (1990), The Departed (2006, Oscar-winner) (both directed by Martin Scorsese) & Se7en (1995).

A Few Good Men is a wonderful movie I'm sure you'll love but there are some things in it that, as a Marine I can tell you, a Marine would NEVER do.... even if it doesn't win I hope u watch it at some point 👍

Joel

Addie consistently has polls filled with bonafide #1 movies

Greg S.

A Few Good Men

Speaking of David Fincher, I also suggest The Game (1997), Fight Club (1999), Panic Room (2002), Zodiac (2007), The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (2009), The Social Network (2010), The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (2011), Gone Girl (2014), Mank (2020) and The Killer (2023, upcoming). #MoreDavidFincherForAddieCounts

A Few Good Men probably the best of this bunch. And definitely the only feel-good movie here, in case what you're in the mood for is a decider.

AstralCars

Didn’t vote cuz all of these are bangers

Lance Li

I never got over the villain from No Country for Old Men. This anti-western movie is both thrilling and philosophical. Definitely check this out.

MattyK

The Departed is SO fucking good. I hope you get to watch it

Mr. Writhms

The villain in "No Country For Old Men" is who Darth Vader and Thanos call for evil tips. Javier Bardem fully deserved the Oscar for that role.

Luis Fernandez

All solid choices. Went with No Country, but really you can't go wrong. However... The Departed is a remake of 2002's Infernal Affairs, which I think is the better film. So if The Departed wins the poll, I'd vote that you watch Infernal Affairs first.

Jay Robert

I literally picked all of them.

zynjams

nope, not my genre

Jesse Shadows

If you want a really good film series to start try the new Planet Of The Apes movies. They’re all extremely good.

Chris

Amazing choices, but it's Departed & Goodfellas for me 🙌

Richard Maurer

I don't like mob movies, so anything but Departed and Goodfellas for me.

Phil Stubblefield

If you want the truth, then you should watch A Few Good Men... 😁 (Addie, if you don't yet get the joke, you will...)

MoulinNoir

hey just so you know, se7en can be a real hard watch in a disturbing and gruesome sort of way -- i just feel it's unfair to let you potentially wander into viewing it without knowing that

Chip MC

just wanna throw this out there but it’d be kinda neat if we sorta forced a tie with the runner up bc all these movie choices are dope

ButtercupsTrueLove

Something more on the wondrous side of the David Fincher experience is Brad Pitt in the title role in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (2008). And, no, F. Scott Fitzgerald did not write that celebrated quote, "For what it's worth..." found on the internet - it was dialogue written for this film for Pitt's character.

Gcvftw

You’re allowed to be wrong, it’s ok.

Gideon James

Addy is not going to enjoy Seven. You guys are cruel.

Richard Maurer

Se7en is still a mainstream movie, not on the level of many horror films. More of a suspense film with little actual gore.

Richard Maurer

Reactors who never go outside their comfort zones are the ones who quickly get boring. Some people don't seem to realize that reactors should be watching whatever their patrons want, not just films that they think the reactor will have a fun and easy time with.

Gideon James

Hopefully my prediction is wrong and that Addie will love Seven. Bit I'm also not sure why she would trust us to have her back and to not put these types of films on a list for her to watch. I personally am not a sadist.

Chip MC

i don’t think it’s about trust or having someone’s back, it’s simply what movie do we wanna watch. i hope people aren’t voting according to what they think addie might enjoy. she might love it, hate it, kinda like it, be indifferent but it’s presumptuous assume anything otherwise. i’m sure addie had no clue she would love lotr as much as she did or enjoy the fifth element as much as she did. it’s fun to be surprised.

Eddie

Se7en is a movie with good actors, and good, albeit dark, story. It's directed well, and does a good job at suspense. It questions what morality means to different people. I don't want to to say more for fear of spoilers. It's not like it's the movie Hostel. Addie is a grown-ass adult, she can make her own decision to not watch it if she wants.

Aaron Taft

Addy.... you are going to HATE Se7en. It looks like its going to win. Which is fine, just be prepared. you are NOT going to like it.

Richard Maurer

Maybe, maybe not. Personally I wouldn't presume to know what a person I don't really know (and neither do you) would like or not like. This is the kind of white knighting I've seen with other reactors (particularly Cassie from PiB) that inevitability becomes a problem as you get to the point where people are telling the reactor that they will hate literally every film that has any violence worse than punch or a gunshot.

Alex Tan

...and I do hope that after watching Se7en, you watch something light hearted as a palate cleanser because this movie is REALLY gonna make you squirm (in other words, it'll scare you).

DazzMetalStorm

Even if The Departed doesn't win, I still think you should give it a watch. Amazing film and a great cast.

Richard Maurer

@Byrd N. Hand - Couldn't agree more about Goodfellas, except I would change good film to ok film. And if you look into the real people this film is based on they actually come off looking better in the film, hard as that is to believe. I'll never forget hearing Henry Hill being interviewed on a radio show once where the sister of Spider (the kid Tommy shot) called in, asking for where they buried his body, as it had never been found. Hill basically just blew her off and even laughed about it. This is the kind of human garbage that people think is worth being the protagonist of a film.

Richard Maurer

If it were something more extreme I would get it - to a point. But Se7en is a mainstream movie. Also saying a movie is violent is one thing. Telling them they're going to hate a movie is another thing all together. Telling them they will hate (or even love) a movie is an attempt to influence their perception of a movie, based on the person commenting's own bias's and a mostly unfounded belief of knowledge as to the reactors likes and dislikes.
