Here's the full length reaction to Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves! This movie was SO MUCH FUN!! At the time of recording this, this movie was ONE vote ahead of The Big Lebowski, so I'm planning on watching that next week. I'm going to go ahead and add Anchorman to my line-up in March because there's a lot of interest in that movie as well. Enjoy!

Happy Monday, Addie. I'm so glad that you enjoyed Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2023). My girlfriend & I saw it in IMAX and we both enjoyed it. It definitely has everything you could ever want in an epic fantasy comedy and more. BTW, you've also seen Chris Pine in the Star Trek reboot movies as well.

Yay! I love this movie and the game it’s based on, I can’t wait to watch this with you!

Happy Monday, Addie! 😊 Glad that this one ended up winning the poll. I've only seen bits and pieces of this movie so far. And from what I've seen it's pretty good. Definitely looking forward to watching this movie in it's entirety along with your reaction later this evening. Have a great day today! 😊

YAY! Me and my wife watched this and we both liked it a lot cause we are D&D fans lol

Woo-hoo! So excited to rewatch this with you! Such a fun, funny movie, I really hope they make more...maybe with the same cast as different characters!

Addie, I think if there is one game you should try, it should absolutely be Balders Gate 3 on your PC. If there is one game anybody should play even if you are not a gamer, its BG3. The story is better than most tv shows and movies out there. Choose your own adventure and choices matter. That game and this movie take place at different times but it's the same world, and same areas on the map! As a book reader and a movie lover, you would love it me thinks.

My favorite game system was the Nintendo GameCube. My favorite game was Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance. The creators of this movie used a lot from that game. The Displacer beast that casted an image of itself… the Gelatinous Cube they jumped into, were the most used. When they were in the middle of the maze, there was a cage with other players who were caught. All of those players were copied from the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon in the early eighties. I was thrilled to see this on the poll and when it was near the lead I changed my first vote to this. I’m happy to see you enjoy this. Have a great day, Addie!!

There is a possibility of other DnD movies because there are other kind of characters that can be introduced for a different journey.

My dad used to play D&D, so we have a few D&D movies in our collection. I wasn't very impressed with most of them. When my dad purchased like 12 movies in one day a few weeks back, this was among them. Despite his promise that this one was good, I wasn't too keen on watching it, so I didn't. When I saw it on the poll, I decided to use one of my votes on it, because I figured what the heck. If it was bad, at least there would be some entertaining commentary to make it better. But I am pleasantly surprised at how good it is! Thanks, Addie, for the reaction, because without it, I might never have given this a chance. I'm not sure what my favorite thing in this movie is (there was a lot of great moments), but it might be either the Chonky Dragon, or the part at the end where they whip the villain into the wall and then a pile of stone quite unnecessarily (but satisfyingly) falls on the body. This was fun. A considerably lower budget, but amusing (imo) movie dealing with D&D more from the game perspective is "The Gamers: Dorkness Rising." The title may sound like it doesn't respect the game, but it was actually a really cute and really fun movie. It's a sequel to "The Gamers" (which I never saw and so can't recommend) but you don't need to have seen the first one to watch this one (I don't believe it even follows the same characters). I doubt it would be popular enough to do well on the channel (I could be wrong) but you might want to at least check it out for yourself if you want something campy and fun to watch some night.

I'm really glad you enjoyed this movie. It truely is a great film. It was everything I wanted in a D&D movie and more. I think it's a testament of the writing that even those who are not as versed in D&D will still enjoy this movie. I'm hopeful for a sequal that is as good if not better than this one.

Luis Fernandez

This is my favorite Michelle Rodriguez performance (and movie). This was also my favorite Justice Smith movie, but I think his best performance was in the series The Get Down (which I would recommend).

Mr. Writhms

Never saw this one sooo... If I don't like it, I'll need someone to blame. You're nominated. 😁

Alex Tan

Speaking of Michelle Rodriguez, I also suggest S.W.A.T. (2003) with Samuel L. Jackson, Colin Farrell, LL Cool J and Jeremy Renner, as well as Widows (2018) with Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki, Cynthia Erivo, Robert Duvall and Liam Neeson, and James Cameron's Avatar (2009). #MoreMichelleRodriguezForAddieCounts

Since you like this, I think you'll also like The Legend of Vox Machina on Prime. Short couple of seasons (with more on the way) very much in a similar vibe. It was adapted from a live stream of a bunch of friends who happen to be voice actors playing a D&D campaign.

Mr. Writhms

Okay... I enjoyed that. I lift the curse. 👌

I'm so glad you enjoyed this movie as much as you did, Addie! As a longtime fan of the game and someone who LOVED this movie, I want it to get as much positive attention as possible that might increase the chances of a sequel :) I think one of this movie's greatest accomplishments is striking the balance in appealing to both fans of the game and people unfamiliar with it. The 2000 D&D movie was pretty much just a generic fantasy adventure with the D&D name slapped on it, but this movie used the actual lore from the game. The city names, tribe/faction/group names are all from the Forgotten Realms lore. The monsters were right out of the books, even the pudgy dragon is a specific dragon from some of the stories. And I was THRILLED that they included my favorite D&D monster, the Displacer Beast(the six-legged panther that could project its image). In the game, it always appears to be not quite where it actually is, making it harder to hit, but how they present that effect in game mechanics has changed with each revision of the rules. I think they chose a great way to portray it in the movie that didn't require exposition to understand. Even the magic shown in the movie was nearly all based on actual spells from the game(including the big magic hand fight at the end). Some fans of the game didn't like how they played fast and loose with the shapeshifting rules for Druids(Doric in the movie) but I don't care because it looked AWESOME :) At the same time, they made sure to give us enough of the history & lore so that everyone could follow along without feeling like they were studying for a test. Another fun tidbit: During the High Sun Games, the other group of contestants with the slightly cartoony outfits(like the blond guy with the horned helmet) were all styled after the characters from the 80's D&D cartoon :) I'm also glad they went with the "fun adventure" tone. It helped to avoid comparisons to things like Lord Of The Rings if they went for "epic fantasy", or Game Of Thrones if they went the "dark and gritty" route. This felt a lot like the adventures of a group of players at a table, and I couldn't be happier.

Addie you mentioned in your conclusion that you loved barbie and oppenhiemer, BUT if there is one more movie that topped the charts above Oppenheimer and Barbie combined in 2023 it was "Godzilla minus 1" Its a stand alone Godzilla movie even though there are others, this film is the best one and highest rated movie for 2023

Alex Tan

Now the REAL question is, which movie do you love the most, Oppenheimer (2023) or Barbie (2023)?

QuiGon_Jim

Hi, Addie.. St. Paddy's day is coming up! Time for some Irish films: 'The Wind That Shakes The Barley', 'The Commitments' and 'The Banshees of Inisherin'. Add a bit of green to the channel 😀

Steve SG-1

I think if you enjoyed this movie you would really like Stardust from 2007. Really great cast, has a kind of Princess Bride vibes.

Doug

Such a great movie, one of my favorites from 2023 for sure! I've played enough D&D to recognize a lot of the bits they mixed in from the game (e.g. all the monsters, most of the spells, how Chris Pine's character is a Bard that uses his ability to inspire the rest of the party, etc). But none of that is why it's my favorite, I loved this movie mainly because it's just a great film all around. 😊 Tons of humor, great action sequences, emotional scenes, lots of little surprising twists, really you can't ask for much more for a movie to be a fun time. I have no idea if they're planning a sequel or not, but I guarantee if they do I'll be there with a lot of other people waiting for it.
