Sasan Karimi

Now that you’re starting Book 3 of Avatar: The Last Airbender, I would highly recommend continuing the journey with The Legend of Korra afterward. I grew up with it and enjoyed it just as much. It’s a direct sequel, so in this show you get to see how Aang’s world evolves after the war and what kind of legacy he leaves behind, plus a few familiar faces show up later on. The tone is a bit more mature and darker though, the animation and music are a step up and the conflicts are not limited to just one war anymore like in the original. It also expands on the Avatar lore. Fun fact: You'll recognise the voice actors of Invincible (Steven Yeun) and Omni-Man (J.K. Simmons) in the show and they play important roles too. It’s different from the original in many ways, but it’s definitely worth the watch. If you like Avatar so far, then you'll enjoy Korra. Although some fans are split on it, it’s honestly something you should experience for yourself. Speaking of Invincible, are you planning to watch Season 4 after you finished Avatar?

Orange

Anime: 3 seasons to hold hands. Meanwhile Avatar the last Airbender: wrapping arms around her crush and kissing him in one scene of reunion like it's absolutely normal. Avatar not playing around with romance, they are straight forward

Torben

I think 2 ep missing

The parallels in this episode are crazy. First, you got the obvious, Zuko vs Aang, with the latter wanting to regain his honor, while the former has, at least by his father's standards. But the less obvious one is Hakoda vs Ozai. Katara goes to see her father, fully opens up about how hurt and upset she his (Mae Whitman, the VA, is an international treasure and needs to be protected at all costs, her performance here is *chef's kiss*). Hakoda shows unconditional love and support, he understands her pain, and lets her express it, only saying a few words up until he understands what's wrong, and how he can help her. At the end, they embrace, and he tells her how much her and her brother mean to him. Despite her grief, Katara is safe with him. Ozai on the other hand, shows conditional... I wouldn't say love, I'm not sure he's capable, more like tolerance. There is a clear power dynamic here. Zuko is mostly silent, has to keep a facade, while Ozai does the talking. He says he's proud of Zuko, but all he does is list his achievements. Zuko's return home depended on how much he can do for Ozai. This isn't a son seeing his father after three years. This is a soldier, a child soldier at that, reporting to his general. The whole time, Ozai circles him like a vulture while Zuko is on his knees, looking at the ground. Despite Ozai's words of pride, the whole scene feels tense, uneasy, especially when he tells Zuko he's proud of him for killing the Avatar. Zuko has to keep his worries for himself. I could go on about this juxtaposition, but I'd be at it for hours. The writing of this show is really top tier aha! Also, regarding how Ozai looks, it's very much on purpose that he seems to have somewhat of a kind face. You EXPECT to see this cartoonish villain, obviously evil in appearance as he has been in action thus far. But no, he's just a normal dude, handsome even, and that's kinda the point.

I'm sorry I only made it through two seasons of Korra but how is it darker? This show covers mass genocide I get that the tone is different but idk about darker.

Madara_Uchiha_2022

I honestly loved it, I loved all seasons of Korra, my favourite is Book 2

B00ch

I saw this coming, I knew you would think that when you saw Ozai. He's a legitimate awful person like Doflamingo lol

Vertiguous

Seems like the post is just mistitled, this is S3E01

Spiritstrike

I'm definitely going to vote that you watch the sequel series!

Spiritstrike

Without going into spoiler territory it deals with psychological trauma, PTSD, political extremisim and existential nihilism

Sasan Karimi

Well, I meant "relatively" darker. *spoiler ahead* I don't know about you but when I was a kid I was scared when I saw Amon taking peoples' bending away and every bloodbending scene in Book 1. Those scenes genuinely gave me the creeps. Since you mentioned that you saw only two seasons, you probably don't know the scene from Book 3 where Korra was subject to torture and the death of the Earth Queen by the Red Lotus. Also the suicide scene of Tarlokk and Noatak at the end of Book 1 is a good example. I don't recall a mass genocide in Korra, you probably mean the Air genocide but that was in TLA.

Adrian Eccelston

You probably thought he was older because he is Iroh’s brother and expected him to be around the same age, but yeah he is much younger.

DontBmad

this is the best season by far.. get ready for a ride lol

LewdProxy

Gurl, you have a problem xD

Roxas52

I would say it's not as good, but it's not bad. It does have its pros and cons, but I did like it for what it was, so yeah, I would say it's worth a watch, but don't go into it thinking it will be better than the original, you will be disappointed if you do that. P.S. I like session 3 the best, but that's just me

mrmyrickman

OMG GIRLY WHAT A TIME TO BE WATCHING AVATAR SEASON 3

mrmyrickman

The leaked movie is insane

mrmyrickman

By the way the voice of the father lord is mark hamill, luke skywalker himself

T

Squidward: "Oh no, he's hot!"

Adam Vialpando

While I do suggest you watch the sequel series, I recommend you wait a bit. Give yourself some space from this world, that way you're not automatically trying to compare the two. They are two very different shows, in both tone and style. I like each one in different ways. Might I suggest picking up Invincible S4 after ATLA. The penultimate episode just released yesterday and it was insane.

Dallas Winston

“Why is he so hot” Meanwhile … “FIRE LORD” Gees idk Jamie

Rusty Childers

That might be the first time I've seen a full blush on Ozai's face reveal.

Unstablebeast

Of course Jamie would find the evil hot man absurdly attractive

Dandy Zoran

Lmao. We saw this coming. She has a type
