The Clone Wars

Very underrated movie and the beginning of showing Dooku some respect, as well as the introduction of Ahsoka! I’ve said this before, but I think you should react to the first four episodes of Tales of the Jedi, as they delve into Dooku’s past as a Jedi and will make you respect him even more. Avoid the final two episodes until after the series though!

Matthew Cronin

This movie is overly hated, it’s a good introduction to my FAVORITE CHARACTER 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

Julio Castillo

Let's Leave Tales of the Jedi for later, at least until they have already watched several seasons of The Clone Wars. Besides... the jump in the Animation Quality it's much better when one gets to experience it with the show itself.

KrakenKing

Idk, it only adds depth and more dimensions to a character that I believe will really come to love.

Erik

There are SO MANY episodes I can’t wait for y’all to see!!

Julio Castillo

oh my god... That moment when Ahsoka's theme starts to play for the first time.... so freakin nostalgic, it almost brought me to tears.

I remember around 2009/2010 when I was around 9 or 10 I saw someone with a Clone Wars school bag and right away brought up Clone Wars and we both got along extremely well and are still friends to this day. I remember back when they announced the return of The Clone Wars around 2018 I believe. He sent me the trailer and I just thought "Huh one of these cool fan edits" but nope it was the real deal and we both later got together in 2021 I want to say to watch the final Season of The Clone Wars. So this film holds a special place in my heart as a slice of media that introduced me to the show and a new friend.

The voice actor for Ziro is doing his best Truman Capote impression.

Matthew Cronin

Hutts are hermaphrodites, they can identify as one gender but still appear as both and reproduce as both

Sebastian Lagunes

Also if you both really loved the overly hated Clone Wars Movie/ Pilot. Then the rest of the series will be a piece of cake. Most fans describe it as only getting better after this. I personally had no issues when I first watched. Here’s to more Star Wars The Clone Wars!

Matthew Periolat

This is the benefit of fresh eyes. I’ve always considered this the weakest of the Star Wars movies. I’d still rate it last behind all the live actions, but I’ve been way too hard on the movie. It’s actually decent in concert with the Clone Wars series and, while I still think it would do just as well as the three individual episodes as intended, it’s not bad at all! Ziro was always a big reason for hate - I always thought it was an oddly effeminate take on a character and was hated accordingly. Wasn’t until Caleb said he sounded like a Southerner that I realized THAT was what they were going for. That and he DOES sound like Cartman! Great call out. Ah, Ahsoka… I’m just smiling. For reasons. Ahsoka was born 36 years before ANH, so she was 14 at the time of the movie, to answer the question. And I know you have a negative view on the sequels, but I really would ask for a rewatch at some point. Maybe you’ll change your mind, perhaps not. I think we all can evolve. Look how I finally took my foot off the throat of this movie! Now, MOAR!

It's so much fun seeing how much you are both enjoying The Clone Wars journey. Anakin was just short of 20 years old at the time this movie is set, and as a few other have said Ahsoka is 14 at this point. I feel the idea of most Master and Padawan relationships in Star Wars are supposed to reflect sibling relationships, there are a few rare exceptions to this however. I also absolutely love that Rex fights the mind trick just enough to call him Anakin instead of General Skywalker, giving a warning even while under the control of someone else. Hutts were designed originally as a species with only one sex but still a wide variety of voice tones. Part of Hutts obsession with other species is the fact they have multiple sexes, many Hutts identify as genders outside of their own physical limitations. Originally they had Ziro identify as a masculine Hutt, as well as Jabba, but there were some that identified as feminine. Disney however removed this for some unknown reason and now Hutts do in-fact have multiple sexes and no longer separate their gender identities from their assigned sex. Which feels like a very big step backwards to me. Personally I still prefer to think of them as a species with a single sex but many gender identities, because it makes for a much more interesting species as well as help show the level of diversity that exists within the Star Wars galaxy. I know that my preference for how Hutt's sex and gender were previously represented may be controversial to some people. But as someone who doesn't fit into what is considered the gender norm, I always find it nice to see different levels of representation. No one in the Star Wars galaxy ever hated Hutts for their gender or sex, they may dislike Hutts in general because of how many of them fall into the horrible vile gangsters life style, but it has always stayed separate to their gender identity. And yes a lot of Hutts shown in Star Wars are horrible individuals but it doesn't mean every single Hutt is horrible. An individuals actions and behaviour is what determines whether or not they are a good person, and sometimes it's good to show that just because someone identifies as something other than their assigned sex at birth, it doesn't give them a free pass for the horrible stuff they do. Getting that inclusion from Star Wars, showing that degree of gender diversity, while also keeping it separate from the individuals actions, is just a very good bit of early representation.

Thanks guys! This was a great reaction! I really loved your discussion and Meg’s comments on the Jedi, force, etc. I had some quick non-spoiler thoughts I thought Id share, if anyone cares (lol). I love Ahsoka and think she’s a great addition to Star Wars. Obi-Wan and Anakin are like brothers and I love watching them be two dads to her. AotC and TCW: Anakin 19, Padme 24, Ahsoka 14, Rex and other 1st gen clones (despite their appearance and experience) 10 RotS and TCW S7: Anakin 22, Padme 27, Ahsoka 17, and Rex etc 13 Dont worry Meg, it’s totally okay to be a Star Wars fan and acknowledge that it’s kind of messed up how many of these characters are effectively child soldiers. Star Wars has always been political commentary. The Republic and even the Jedi themselves are all victims. Their institutions, which were originally founded honorably by those with the intent to do good, have gradually been corrupted by time, toxicity, and ill-intent. It’s clear from this film alone just how aware of this these writers are. Their daring to grapple with these concepts and treat them seriously is honestly admirable. I like what you said about Yoda and Dooku’s jealousy of him, and it got me thinking about how old Yoda is, and how you can imagine generations of Jedi growing up thinking about how they want to have power and change things in the Order, but they grow frustrated, because the little green man just wont die and release the power and significance granted him by dogma. Meanwhile, Yoda is just a well-meaning Iroh-style old man who doesn’t want to see his children suffer. During this era of Star Wars, there was little in terms of video games or tv, that didn’t exist within George’s creative umbrella. Meaning that he had final say on most major decisions, and many minor decisions on a litany of obscure topics. Like how Starscreamer said that there’s no name for Yoda’s species. No one was allowed to name or define the species in tertiary material. Dave Filoni, the director of this film, was effectively George’s protege at Lucasfilm. Anyway, that’s all for now!

Loved this reaction. So by this point Anakin is 19-ish. Ahsoka is 14. Ahsoka's species is called a Togruta. They originate from the planet Shili. I believe Shaak Ti was also a Togruta. I'm not entirely sure how it works, but I assume the Jedi do talk to the parents before taking in new Jedi. I think the cutoff is 3 years old. For book recommendations I'd like to recommend the Republic Commando books, expanding on the video game Republic Commando, written by Karen Travis; Hard Contact, Triple Zero, True Colors, Order 66, and Imperial Commando: 501st. Also if you're curious about Jango's backstory, highly recommend the Star Wars: Bounty Hunter game and the Star Wars: Jango Fett Open Seasons comic.

Unstablebeast

for reference, ahsoka is 14 here and been being trained since she was near a baby, vs anakin who is about 18 or 19 here and started training at 8, so not that far in age, but shes technically been trained by the jedi longer

Matthew Periolat

It’s going to spoil stuff if she watches Tales now though. Patience.

KrakenKing

That’s literally why I said to skip the last two episodes. Do people read anymore?

Matthew Periolat

Oh! Almost forgot! The pink and white droid Artoo was talking with is not R4, that’s R2-KT. It is not her only appearance in Star Wars, she is a tribute to Katie Johnson, the daughter of 501st founder Albin Johnson. Katie died of brain cancer in 2004 at only seven years old. R2-KT was made by hand by her father because his daughter wished for a droid to watch over her while she was undergoing chemotherapy and was at her bedside until the end. KT has been a staple of Star Wars and the fandom ever since.

Frankie H

That actually was Christopher Lee as Dooku and Samuel L Jackson as Mace Windu, they got them back for this movie, however in the clone wars tv series it's different voice actors.

I can remember when this came out just a few years after the original Clone Wars show. Think I was 13 at the time, and can remember hoping for more of the same, then being so dissapointed by the plot and new look that I never bothered to watch it. 15 years later let's see if things have changed😉
