Couldn't decide which sassy face to include in the thumbnail, so I put both 😂

You're stuck in a small room for 4 hours with either Marco or Murtry. CHOOSE!

There's that old Mark Twain quote that applies to all of this, "History doesn't repeat itself, but it often rhymes." I don't remember if I've made this remark on one of your videos or someone else's (forgive me if I'm repeating myself -- or rhyming), but people often marvel at how prescient the authors of The Expanse (books and show) seem to be.... there are so many parallels between events in this story and things that are happening in our current-day world; it seems amazing that they somehow predicted it all. But the sad truth is, it's not so much that they can see the future as it is that they have seen the past. Human nature hasn't changed much over the centuries. These things that are happening now, and happening in this show, have happened before, over and over, throughout the history of human civilization. We keep making the same mistakes and, unfortunately, it seems we have not learned much from those mistakes, so we appear destined to keep making them. I suppose it's not a very optimistic view of humanity, but I fear it's a pretty realistic one. Why Murtry decided that everybody was a terrorist: Partly, yes, it's because he's looking (consciously or subconsciously) for an excuse to get the Belters off the planet so he can claim its riches for RCE and himself. But also, he has been eavesdropping on conversations between some of the more "activist" residents of Ilus, so he knows that a bunch of them have been plotting things and that Lucia was claimed to be part of it (even though she said she no longer wanted anything to do with it). And, as you saw, he wasn't entirely wrong -- even Lucia admits to this. But also, because this is The Expanse, you know there's more to the story than this. You'll see eventually. Bobbie.... yeah. Poor Bobbie. I don't know that I'd go so far as to liken Mars to Soviet-era Russia -- certainly economically they are a very different animal (fiercely Capitalist instead of Socialist/Communist), but politically, there are certainly some parallels. Mars isn't quite a dictatorship, though; all of their leaders are legitimately elected, but Martian society values contribution to the common goal way more than they do individual freedoms, which results in a fairly fascist societal structure, complete with the whole Police State thing. There's a lot to be admired about Mars, about their work ethic and their commitment to a better future, but some of what goes with that is downright terrifying. And I think Bobbie is starting to see that, especially since she's been victim to it more than once. Holden is supposed to be frustrating, I think. Although he's gone off the obsessive deep end a few times, in general his default position is to try to always "do the right thing," to the point that he ends up doing objectively stupid things out of either naivety or stubbornness or some combination of the two. Like Don Quixote, he sees himself as a knight. So frustratingly, he becomes the stereotypical paladin. But he's *our* stereotypical paladin, so we love him anyway. Even if we do want to slap him around now and then. You have Marco exactly right. He's charismatic and pretty, and gives a good speech. But his primary concern is for himself. Like Dawes, yes, but about 1,000 times worse. Much more to come with him, and very little of it happy. But boy, does Keon Alexander play him well. Appreciate your analysis and empathy always, Meg. Sorry for the long-ass comments. I think you bring out the verbose in me. 😃

Do NOT apologize!! I love your comments!

Oh Shepard wouldn't take any shit, for sure 🤣🤣

After a lot of rewatches, I think I just now noticed that Amos is unusually tense/aggravated to find himself cuffed to the bed. I imagine that might be a trauma response to his childhood (which we've been given clues to).

Tony Camas

Aw, thanks. You may regret encouraging me, but thanks. 🤣

I think Ty Franck went on record to actually indicate that Mars was an imagining of an idealized Soviet Union minus the Stalinism and the strife caused by awful decisions. Command economy, huge military spending, heavy police state, and propaganda promoting everyone contributing to the national goal of a terraformed Mars. When that dream was no longer a priority, that sense of collectivism collapsed quietly but abruptly. But you'll still have elements that latched onto the nationalism and pride, and authority backed by violence.

Holden grabs gun. Me: "Aw yeah here we go" Punches Murtry and disarms him, then leaves. Me: "Damn it Holden!" Mars had two things holding it together, it's military and it's terraforming Mars project. It lost both. It doesn't need a big military because things are cool with Earth now, and why spend 100 years and a gazillon dollars/credits and resources on terraforming when there's hundreds or thousands of earth like planets a couple months travel away through the rings? Mars lost it's purpose. Also maybe it's just me, but it's frustrating that Bobbie refuses to work for Avasarala or at least call in a favor from her since she's one of the most powerful people in the system.

Mage Reacts

Not just you! I'm trying not to be peeved, but I think it's quite stubborn of her! It helps me to think maybe she feels she doesn't deserve it? Like impostor syndrome :(

I find it very satisfying that you see right through our boy Marco. And yet he is excellent eye candy! Especially here in his first appearance. And he "has that gift" as Ashford puts it.
