ODST's have a very negative view of Spartans. Before the Spartan 2 program ODST's were the very best, so a lot of them felt undervalued. The ODST that Chief kills in Fall of Reach were given orders to harass him(iirc, ONI gave the order) and that feuled a lot of anger. The ruins are never explained. They're clearly not Forerunner and it makes no for ancient Sangheili to be here. They also mentioned her name at the beginning, "Cal"

Like Jackal Sniper said, the Master Chief right after his enhancement surgery accidentally killed 2 ODSTs and wounded 2 more by accident during a fight in the gym. It's depicted in the Fall of Reach book and the animated movie. The entire ODST organization would hear rumors and fragments of this story and so it started out with bad blood. Also The ODSTs were the best of the best, but not anymore with Spartans around so there's a bit of jealousy there too. Oh yeah and that was our Dutch from the ODST videogame.

Hopefully she got to that part of the book already, or else you two just spoiled her. You really hit the nail on the head with that comment about how harsh the ODST pods hit ground. Those pods have an insanely high casualty rate, which Bungie added as a neat detail in the Halo 2 mission where you land on the Halo; there are a ton of ODST corpses that’re all spawned right in front of their pods who all died on impact.

The Ruins were explained in an article 343 wrote on their website, but saying who built it is kind of a spoiler for future games
