The Expanse 5x1

Zachery Gaskins

The _Augustin Gamarra_ is the ship Naomi referenced in Season 4 (talking to Lucia after she almost died during emergency surgery) where she thought she was only hacking it to shut down the reactor mid-flight so they could shake them down for loot later and save the day (a well-known Belter scam), but Marco used her code to overload the reactor and blow it up while still on Luna, killing over 500 people - hence the giant crater where the memorial is shown. This was the moment she decided she needed to leave him (and take Filip with her, if she could). Amos is returning to Earth to settle the affairs of Lydia Maalouf, the woman who took care of him as a child. And those Belter punks he beat up were just running a protection scam on gullible/scared passengers. And that is indeed Murtry's old bag!

Hiya Meg! Nice to see you doing more Expanse! Yay! They really haven't told you exactly what Amos is heading to Earth for, but they've sort of implied it, I guess. But it's been pretty subtle, so it's not surprising you're still a bit confused. You'll find out soon enough, but for now, I think I can say without being that spoilery that if you noticed, Amos said he was going to Earth to settle the affairs of someone who died, someone who was important to him when he was growing up. So that wouldn't have been Clarissa Mao (Peaches), whom he only met, like, a year ago or so. I think you did guess at one point who it was, or at least you were in the right ballpark. His mother died when he was young, but there were other people in his life back then too; he's even mentioned one of them (Lydia) by name a couple of times. So it could be Lydia who died, or it could be someone else from that general period of his life. Answers will be forthcoming, I promise! The Augustin Gamarra is not related to Amos; he just walked past something advertising a memorial they had apparently constructed to commemorate the Gamarra disaster. But where it fits in the story is that that's the ship that Marco Inaros blew up (in the docks there on Luna) using the virus/code that Naomi had written. The Augustin Gamarra explosion was the thing that precipitated Naomi's leaving Marco and Filip way back when, so that was just a little reminder of the trauma that Naomi's been through and, in all likelihood, will soon be dealing with again. [EDIT: And yes, what @Zachery Gaskins said, too.] I totally agree with your assessment of Dominique Tipper's acting; she has an innate understanding of her character and feels both her joy and her pain so personally, and I agree that's something you cannot be taught. What's incredible is that this was pretty much Dom's first significant acting role; prior to The Expanse, she did a lot of singing and dancing and she played a few bit parts, but nothing even close to this scale. I don't know how they did it, but the casting people for this show never get the credit they deserve; every person in the main cast, every supporting character, and even the one-off people who show up for one scene and then are gone, they're all SO good. Ironically, there are people out there who think the acting in The Expanse is subpar, and some of them go on about it at length in places like Reddit and various comment sections. But not people who've got acting experience or training. They know. YOU know. And man, are you in for a treat this season. It's not going to feel very good, as you can probably imagine, but damn, if there was any justice in this world, Dominique would have won all kinds of awards for what you're about to see. I'm so looking forward to it, and excited to hear that you're ready to take the plunge. You won't regret it!

I think the moment you felt confused about Holden suddenly stopping and looking around in the Roci was because once the techs left the ship he was all alone for the first time in a long time, with nothing to do, so he just spins the cup, and the shot holds on the cup spinning aimlessly alone (a shot I like but can't guarantee wasn't product placement for rocinante cups).

I know I said last season was the best season but this season is also the best season

Ohhh, so many little comments from you, where I just know that at the end of the season you'll will freaking LOOOOVEEEE this season. You really should watch your reaction here after you finished because you'll find it funny but also amazing 😉 Cannot wait for the next episodes.

Lmao Reddit is truly a hellhole. Some of the best acting I've ever seen, all around. Oh Dominique 🧡🧡

To add to what others have said about Dominique Tippers's acting, Dom herself credits the show with developing her acting skills. Obviously the casting folks saw something in her, when selecting her for one of the core roles. Definitely deserves an award for this season. In fact, the whole show should have gotten awards for S5. Cast and crew regard it as their best season.

I would agree except it has been impossible to find or buy those cups for years!! Everyone wanted them at one point!
