New Phoenix (which is a mega city of Phoenix, Arizona and its surrounding towns/smaller cities) is where the Didact shot the Composer at Earth at the end of Halo 4. Also, Crimson Team is who you play as in Spartan Ops, so every time they said Crimson Team did something it directly tied into a Spartan Ops mission.

Just a heads up, Spartan Ops never got a second season, so the Janus Key storyline is continued in the Halo: Escalation comic book series, which released prior to Halo 5.

The reason why Buck is a spartan in halo 5 is because the Spartan-4 program recruits experienced or talented soldiers from all the military branches. Unlike the Spartan-2 program everybody in the Spartan-4 program is an adult volunteer. The procedure of augmenting humans into Spartans is much safer at this point in the games, it works on adults now, whereas in Fall of Reach it only worked on kids. So the Spartan-4 program is much more ethical than the Spartan-2 or Spartan-3 program. No more child soldiers. So I'm just guessing that as soon as it was announced that regular human soldiers could become Spartans that Buck jumped at the opportunity.

Palmer even has her own 3 issue comic series about her becoming a Spartan-IV, it explains pretty much everything important about the program's history. Its called Halo: Initiation and its a super quick read, so I hope you get around to reading it Meg
