This is definitely my favorite episode. It’s like a mix of The Killing Joke and A Death in The Family.

Definitely a traumatic but awesome episode!

Just like you Meg I was also wondering why all of a sudden Gordon and the GCPD was after Batman like that the first time I saw this episode too. See I knew something strange had to be going on about all that and I was right. All the time it was Scarecrow and his damn fear gas that got to Batgirl! Anyway like I said don't forget about watching Static Shock cause that's also part of the DCAU.

Yeah this is definitely one of the best but one of the most traumatic episodes of the series. Realizing that all of this was from Scarecrow's fear gas really makes you understand not only how strong it is but how dangerous it is. It's why I hope Scarecrow is a main villain in a future project, whether it's in James Gunn's DCU or Matt Reeves' Batverse. I know Cillian Murphy was Scarecrow in Nolan's trilogy but he was never the main villain and his toxin was never created by him (like it usually is) but instead being used in collaboration with Ra's Al Ghul. And you're right that Scarecrow's redesign in this season is so creepy but I honestly love just how scary he looks. As for the ending, I think it's left up in the air as to whether Gordon knows Barbara is Batgirl but it shouldn't be a surprise if he did know. I feel like most who don't know Gordon forget that he's also a detective like Batman and a really good one too. So I honestly interpreted as he may know but is okay with it as he knows that Barbara can take care of herself and can make her own decisions as she is an adult in this universe. I'm excited for Torch Song next and after that you can skip/watch the other episodes on your own time until you get to Old Wounds. That's an episode I'm excited for you to watch as well. But thanks again for another episode! We are so close to Batman Beyond and I can't wait!! Plus if you continue at the pace you're going, you'll be watching Batman Beyond already while you're finishing season 3 of STAS and I assume Justice League will follow after you finish STAS so I'm hyped!!

'It was all a fear-toxin nightmare' can feel like a cop-out, but it's hard to complain when it's executed so well with this much gusto. The absolute worst disaster scenario for the Bat-family rendered gruesomely, and centered around something real that must have been privately bugging Barbara for a while. Luckily, her father is sharper than he lets on so the nightmare could never come true. Nice to see that even after all that's come between them, Nightwing is still willing to put it on the line for Bruce. Or at least Barbara believes so. In one of the few comedy moments of the episode we have 'If the Bat's on a spree, Wayne must pay the fee!' paraphrased from the infamous OJ Simpson trial. They do the same thing in Joker's Millions with the exact same corrupt lawyer character.

Mage Reacts

Exactly! I genuinely love the "it was just a dream" trope if it's done well.

Mage Reacts

Also LOL didn't catch the OJ Simpson trial reference.

its great when its done well. I just hate the trope because of how often its done and how often its not done well. But this example is a great use of it.
