WOOOHOOO! First time watching INDIANA JONES! I love Indy already 🥰

A couple things I only realized while the video was processing/rendering:

Caleb asked me if I recognized Gimli. HUH??? SALLAH, AKA JOHN RHYS DAVIES, IS GIMLI??? I loved his character and obviously love that dwarf so this was a lovely realization for me!

Also didn't realize Doc Ock's actor is the scaredy cat at the beginning! 😲

I also learned about the cast and crew's dysentery and how it prevented Spielberg from shooting this huge sword vs lasso sequence with the best swordsman ever (lmao), but the gun vs sword scene we got as a result is iconic.

I didn't realize how badly I needed a good ass action movie with a hero with a special interest who kills a bunch of Nazis. A classic for a reason. 🥰

What a classic. The mold for adventure video games like Tomb Raider and Uncharted. I gotta ask, who do you like more? Indy or Han?

Meg, you reacting to this made my week! I can't wait to watch this!

“I dunno, I’m making this up as I go!” Yeah, this is really SUCH a classic. And shock of shocks, this is NOT my favorite! I’ll let you know when we get there. And yes, the actor playing Belloq really DID eat the fly. And I was traumatized for a WHILE by the Nazis getting melted by the Ark. I was seven and I happened to walk in at the end of the movie. Oops.

Awww yeah!!! Such a classic - Almost a perfect movie. So many things to love about it and Harrison's Indy (how can one actor have played so many iconic characters at this moment in time and have them all be iconic but also all unique?? 3rd in ~82 being Rick Deckard in Blade Runner)... But Harrison does it. My favorite production detail about this film is that one reason it looks so amazing is the Director of Photography, Douglas Slocombe, did a lot of black & white earlier in his career so his contrast is incredible. In fact, a favorite way to watch Raiders is with the saturation turned all the way down!! Can't freaking wait to see reaction.

There are so many tropes, both in other movies and in videogames that started from this movie. Person getting obliterated by a propeller. Truck/caravan chase complete with dude being dragged along by a rope. Driving a vehicle and knocking off the enemies climbing the sides. These latter things are recognizable in Uncharted and The Ezio Trilogy.

I adored this reaction. Your enthusiasm and empathy are infectious. I realized again why this is such an iconic movie, and that action scene, was epic.

I'd forgotten how dramatic the monkey death was. The shot down over her splayed out body under the fan was so much more intense than it needed to be!

INDY!!! Idk that nerdy self does it for me 🤣

THIS was the origin of the propellor? I can't! 🤣

Matthew Cronin

The girl with the painted “love you” on her eyes tho 😂

Oh man, that melty face would've become my sleep paralysis demon as a kid LOL. RIP fly. Also props to the actor for continuing the shot! 🤣

This was so fun, thanks Meg. Oh and it's funny you mentioned the PG rating, PG-13 didn't exist at this time. It was G, PG, and R. Several years later people realized that there should be something between PG and R, so that's how the PG-13 rating came about. The irony of the ark being locked away for millennia in Egypt, found by Indy and then locked away again by America for however long is amazing to me. Also I think that fly going into Rene's mouth was unscripted. Pretty good he didn't break character. The US only really wanted the ark because the nazis wanted it I think, once they had it, it seemed like the US government didn't care anymore. Which is good in a way, I'd prefer the US not caring about the ark instead of messing with it. Personally I'm not a fan of Indiana's idea of studying the ark at the end. Honestly how would anyone study the ark safely? It seems really dangerous. If I was with Indy on that mission I'd be like, "Lock that thing away, I don't want to go anywhere near that ancient supernatural death box, no one should go near that thing! Are you Nuts Indy!?!" But that's just me.

This movie is the classic of all classics. Truly timeless and wonderful. I do find it endlessly amusing that Indy is entirely irrelevant to the plot. If he never got involved, the Nazis still find the Ark, use it, and then end up vaporized LOL
