The Expanse 5x8

Yeah, this one has some lows and highs. Some info: 1) Correct, Marco's intent was to make the Chetzemoka into distress bait, using the fake Naomi transmission to lure Holden & the Roci there, and blow it up and take them with it. He just hadn't intended on Naomi being on the ship, but I doubt he's that broken up about it either. 2) Naomi making notches on the wall as she goes searching for the comms wiring panel - she's noting how many times she has to make the trip to the outer hull (which isn't pressurized). Every time she goes out there, an airlock's worth of oxygen is vented into space. She guesstimated the volume of air in the rest of the cabin as well, so she's keeping track of how many times she can go out there before the cabin air gets too thin to survive. 3) I read Nemesis Games before this season aired, and when it got to "Tell James Holden I am in....control", I yelled out loud. GOATest of GOATs And YUP, art imitating/reflecting life between Pallas Station and Gaza.

It's hard to watch the pain that both Naomi and Drummer are going through in this episode, in part because the actors are both so good at portraying it. And yeah, Dominque Tipper's performance is pretty revelatory considering her limited experience. According to Wikipedia (which, as we all know, is always 100% correct), she does have some training, but it sounds like most of that was as a kid. "As a child, she trained at the O'Farrell Stage and Theatre School," Wikipedia says, and mentions that she performed some on stage at a small theater in a London neighborhood. But most of her adult work prior to The Expanse was as a "commercial dancer with musical groups and artists," along with a handful of small roles in some indy films. So this show was really her first big gig, and she definitely made the most of it. It's odd, because while most Expanse viewers (including, I would suspect, 90% of those watching here on Patreon with you) were pretty wowed by the quality of Season 5, a small but vocal subset of the fans criticize the fifth season as being boring or spending too much time on scenes of "Naomi crying" (and not being strong, according to these people), or silliest of all, being "woke" -- which, like, I don't even get where that comes from; even if I did approve of the whole "anti-woke movement," I don't understand what about this show suddenly became woke in the 4th and 5th seasons when it supposedly wasn't before. In any case, while most of us would like to give Dom an award (or at least accolades) for episodes like this one, it seems some people feel completely differently about it, and I can't for the life of me figure out why. I probably shouldn't let it bug me so much (people are free to think whatever they want, obviously, plus I have no actual skin in this game), but it really kinda does drive me nuts. Can't you people see what great work they're all putting in this season? I think it's pretty extraordinary. You get it, though, Meg. Which is why I love watching your reactions to this show so much. I particularly loved your "castaway" reference, which I remember thinking immediately, but don't think I've heard any other reactor mention -- til now. I keep wondering when "Wilson" will make an appearance. Anyhoo.... things are coming to a head now. The next few episodes are fantastic. Can't wait to see you experience them!

Oh, by the way, the annoying character whose name you didn't know -- her name is Karal. But I prefer to call her "that blue-lipped b*tch," and so you are welcome to do the same. 🤣

Ahhh, the episode where Dominique Tipper just went all out on her already impressive acting chops. So intense!!! Looking forward to the conclusion of season 5 and how you feel about it :)
