A Fish Story (STAS)

Meg you should know that Aquaman was ALWAYS blonde if you search the classic cartoon and Superfriends series versions! That movie version you saw was just one time when his hair was different. Also Aquaman was always a king of Atlantis as well and you'll see him again soon enough believe me.

Good reaction! This typically how Aquaman looks and acts in the comics. He is a morally gray character because he cares for his people & the sea. However prior to the 90’s the character is often viewed as a joke to the public due to his abilities to talk to fish being considered lame especially in the classic Super Friends cartoon. However DC would redeem the character to everyone by making him more serious/awesome with his comics & later interpretations. Once you’ll see more Justice League related media not just the show but the animated movies or comics that you’ll see how the team interacts and how they form together. It’s because many interpretations showcase different ways they come together as a team. As for if you want to watch the Aquaman movie, you have to see Zack Snyder’s Justice League first as that is before the events of the Aquaman movie. The first one is pretty good but yeah Jason Momoa does his own take of the character. ^^

This version of Aquaman always bugs me because he’s prejudiced against surface dwellers. Usually, Aquaman’s father was a surface dweller and Aquaman was raised on the surface, only going to Atlantis for the first time as an adult and him becoming king is a controversial move because even though he’s the rightful heir to the throne being the Queen’s first born son, Atlanteans don’t like the idea of a 50% surface dweller being king. I think they just really desperately wanted to make Aquaman cool, because he’s so frequently made fun of, so instead of basing his characterization off of Aquaman, they based him off of Marvel’s Namor, who IS prejudiced against surface dwellers, because Bruce Timm thought he was cooler

LOL the look on your face when Aquaman put his hand over Lois's! Yeah I didn't take Aquaman too seriously until I started reading comic books and was surprised to learn that there's actually some pretty deep lore with what DC has going on with Atlantis. Since Aquaman rules the oceans he arguably governs the largest country in world, which is pretty cool.

And with this episode, you have now met all the classic founding members of the Justice League. You already know Superman and Batman, you've met Wonder Woman through her movie, Hal Jordan Green Lantern through his two animated movies, Barry Allen Flash and Martian Manhunter through the Justice League New Frontier movie and now Aquaman through this. This is usually the lineup of the founding members in the comics and other media but the lineup does change sometimes. Like the Justice League show you're going to watch soon has a different lineup and has their own version of how the League comes together as there are multiple iterations of how the heroes come together and form the Justice League. Also as everyone is saying, this is usually how Aquaman looks in the majority of iterations. This design of him is mainly based on the golden age version of the character with the short blonde hair and orange outfit. But there are versions of him with long hair and a beard, similar to the one that Jason Momoa portrayed. But yes Aquaman has always been blonde. Despite being a founding member of the Justice League, Aquaman is kind of the butt of the joke amongst fans and that's mainly due to how he has been portrayed in cartoons like the 1980s Superfriends where people have this assumption that his powers allow him to talk to fish and it makes him seem ridiculous. But in reality he's actually pretty cool and as he said in this episode, he can communicate with sea animals telepathically and can send mental signals to them to have them do what he wants them to do. But it's not like he can have a full on conversation with sea animals like some people think. As for watching the Jason Momoa Aquaman movie, I would watch Zack Snyder's Justice League first as the events of Aquaman takes place after the movie. And even though Aquaman wasn't my favorite DC movie, James Wan did a great job with how beautiful and colorful it is. And the movie is also one of the only DC movies (next to Joker) to make over a billion dollars. So I wouldn't mind you giving it a watch. Also Aquaman in the Justice League show does have an arc and it's probably one of my favorites of the series. So I can't wait. Also I know I've said it before but I do hope you play the Injustice games cause you do get to know more of DC characters. Both more known and lesser known. And that includes Aquaman as he is a part of the story for the games. But yeah I'm super excited for Justice League since I am also excited for the thoughts and debates you're going to have with the show cause they definitely tackle some serious issues and I'm interested to hear what you'll think

Yup, aquaman has always been blonde and short haired in the comics and cartoons. His strength is almost on the level of superman. Jason mamoa’s version is very different from that for many reasons including his personality. Personally i prefer the classic blonde. But aquaman did have long blonde hair for a time in the comics and some of the cartoons too so jason does share that similarity (long hair not the blonde color i mean).

Enter Aquaman, a hero who is/was often the butt of jokes for his power set, but the DCAU's Justice League made a strong effort to make him more credible. Control of all marine life is nothing to scoff at when applied properly, and this series gives him superhuman-grade strength and durability as well. Coming up to the big finale of STAS! While I don't normally recommend skipping any of these, you can safely go straight to the final 2-parter. 'Superman's Pal' is considered to be the worst episode of the series, and 'Unity' is just... disgusting. I can still hardly believe they let it air on a 'kids' show', and this is after all the tentacles and demon possession in 'The Hand of Fate'.

HeroesKey

I don’t actually remember what happens in Unity but I definitely wouldn’t want to skip ‘The Demon Reborn’ since that’s not only the 2nd to last episode before the two parter but also the last crossover episode before Justice League. I’m honestly fine with Meg just keeping at it with reacting to the rest since she’s literally at the end with 3 episodes left

I have a love/hate relationship with the 1st Aquaman movie, somtimes I can turn off my brain and enjoy it, somtimes i'm mad at how simple and "braindead" Arthur, and the movie can be. But I'd say if you just want to have fun it is a popcorn movie. I'd say watch Zack Snyder's Justice League before, he appears in that first.

The voice actor of Aquaman was the late Miguel Ferrer who also voiced the villain Weather Wizard from earlier in the show. He voiced the villain who tried to overthrow the queen Maxima in the episode "Warrior Queen." He was a huge comic book nerd so I bet he got a lot of joy from this voice work. Aquaman and the Atlantean people remind me a lot of Wakanda from Marvel. Atlantis and Wakanda are both technologically advanced secretive societies that are very protective and isolationist. Both want to be left alone but will respond with heavy force if messed with. Both are run by kings that are also heroes who split their time between ruling and hero stuff. The animated movie Throne of Atlantis is good if you want to learn more about Aquaman, but that should be watched later once you get into the justice league cartoon.

The final episode of this series is amazing !

Awww, love the idea of his father being a surface dweller
