Odin and Loki Update (Patreon)

Hi this is Meg. There have been a few comments about how "annoyed" or frustrated you are that I don't like Odin. I want to remind you all that my reactions are intense in the moment because of 1) my own lived experiences, and 2) because I'm watching the movie in real time, and I haven't seen any of the future films! And I'm seeing terms thrown around like apologist and racist and it's disheartening for me. I don't want to have to squash any feelings I have that support Loki, because that's doing a disservice to my content and honest reactions. I do not condone Loki's actions, and I feel like I've never once said "I'm glad he killed Coulson" or whatever, but he makes really good points about where he learned it from. To me, Odin is an awful father. And similar to a lot of other villain origin stories, it's clear to me how Loki got to where he is now. Part shitty dad, part his own actions. I think this is a clear "both things can be true" moment--however, if for example Odin does a crappy thing in the moment, my unfiltered reaction will be "I HATE HIM" along with me saying "I'll never forgive Loki if he kills Coulson." That initial feeling is not set in stone. I'd hope that the spontaneous, intense reactions, which are core parts of my personality, would at least offer good entertainment. I'd rather watch the entire series before reading paragraphs and paragraphs of people arguing with me and questioning my character because I can point out Odin's toxicity. I guess the point of this post is to let you all know that I'll probably have to take a step back from reading comments over here, which really sucks because I thought this could be a more intimate place to chat/provide feedback :( btw, any comments that are based in respect and more like "I respect your opinion, but also consider this" are not what I'm talking about. It's the condescending stuff that hurts my soul lol. Anyway, Caleb will pass along the nice messages, and we'll do our best to stay motivated and post for you all.

Oh that's such a shame. You have nothing to apologise for, people need to realise that this is fiction at the end of the day and it doesn't matter *that* much. You're allowed to like and dislike any character you want. We're here for your REACTION, not for you to play a part that people deem "correct". I don't particularly like Pepper but that doesn't mean I'm gonna chastise you cos you love her. People need to grow the f up. I'm sorry that you've felt attacked or judged. Fandoms can be so toxic 🙄

I'll be honest that Dark World reaction did leave a bad taste in my mouth. But not so much to attack you for it. But the unnecessary attacks towards Anthony Hopkins was sort of uncalled for. I won't try to make you understand why hating Odin more is not the right mindset, but through my own experiences as well, Odin to me is sort of a realistic father. Harsh, yes, but it's the only way his children will learn. My dad was Odin for me, cruel and sometimes violent treatment, but I wouldn't be who I am today without those, but the little bits when he says he's proud and that he loves me mean so much more.

The Anthony Hopkins stuff was a joke. I'm an actor. He's an amazing actor who's played many villains. And played up the toxic behavior for sure in this movie. I thought people knew me enough to know I would never ever send an actor hate mail, but in the future I will make sure to say "just kidding" at the end. I'm not sure what other attacks you're referencing.

I'm sorry that I had a probable hand in causing this post. Like you, I react very strongly initially, and I got more defensive than i should have. I hope you continue to read comments because interaction is so important online. It connects us even though we are far away. I think we all want people to see things our way which isn't inherently a bad thing, but I shouldn't blatantly attack simply because we see things differently. I'm sorry that I made you feel this way Meg. You see Odin as toxic and thats totally valid. I don't see it as toxic, I see it as a mistake, but because Odin loves Loki, I don't see him as a shitty parent. He's made bad parenting decisions I completely agree, but I just see it as because he loves Loki and Thor, sometimes hard choices are neccesary to help your children. I don't see that as abuse. Morally yeah it's Grey to banish your kids, but I mean Thor kind of needed that. He saw he was in the wrong. Loki should also see that with Odins tough love. I dont get how that is abuse. Maybe you could help me understand. But in summary if we simply disagree or we interpret things a different way, that's okay. I am incredibly sorry for ruining your experience Meg, and I hope you will see this and the positive vibes you have will come back. Thats all I'm looking for in these reactions. ❤️

the '' desperate for me to feel the same way that they do'' thing is unfortunately rampant in ''nerd culture'' , it's seen as a failure in themselves when people don't agree with them (core identity Shit)... It's something I had to work on hard, in the past to be free of. But yes, at the end of the day, this is just fun stories 🤷

Didn't realize how much of an issue this became. After watching your reaction I could understand how passionate you were about Odin and Loki but I didn't think people had that much of an issue about it to the point you had to make this statement. I understand that everyone has their own opinions on things and while we may not agree with everything, I don't think we should shame or ridicule others for having a difference in opinion and force our own onto others. I personally didn't feel annoyed by what you guys were saying and I completely understand why you'd both feel the way you do towards Odin and Loki. Plus I didn't feel like you were disregarding/ignoring or even praising the death and destruction that Loki has committed. I'm sorry Meg and Caleb that you both went through this. Fandoms can be extremely toxic when it comes to certain movies and characters and it's honestly why I stay out of them cause I don't feel like it's worth arguing with them. Hopefully as you guys keep moving along with your reactions, I and the lot of us can spread more positivity and love to you guys cause watching these movies and shows with you guys is truly so much fun! ❤️

Y'all Freaking silly. This is why we can't have nice things. I like MCU Odin, quite a bit (very much due to Anthony Hopkins) and MCU Loki a lot as well (very much due to Tom Hiddleston) as much as the next guy… And yeah, it kinda sucks, when Meg sort of ''dismisses'' Odin etc, but she has good reason too, as she’s said. OG Myth Odin is a Right C- so y'know... count yourselves lucky, that Jack Kirby then, and especially the MCU now, went with a more ‘’sanitised’’ version of him… More importantly, it’s Freaking fiction, eugh……….. For Meg to have to create a whole Damned post (which is obvious if you’ve been following her for any length of time) because of y'all is pretty heartbreaking. And now she feels she has too ''third party'' our comments too...smh. Y’all silly, sad as children…sigh
