Batman Begins

And so begins your journey of DC’s live action movies. Definitely a great start doing the Nolan trilogy first. I hope once you guys finish the Nolan trilogy, the Adam West Batman movie is next, followed by the Tim Burton Batman movies in that order. Mainly cause I want to see your guys' reaction to the drastic change in tone between the Adam West movie and Burton movies. But I’m so excited for not only your reactions to the live action movies but also to hear your thoughts and maybe comparisons to the MCU, especially once you guys get to watching the DCEU movies. I can’t wait for more!!

From a narrative, character, dialogue, and acting standpoint I do agree with others that The Dark Knight is the better movie but Begins has the much better atmosphere and aesthetic. The narrows really adds to the overall aesthetic even with the more grounded look and feel of Gotham something Nolan prefers in his films even if it limits alot of the more comic book heavy elements of the DC universe. But you can also see elements of the more gothic art deco Gotham from the comic's, animated series, and Tim Burtons movies such as the overhead Trains at the end of the film which are very retro art deco looking which I love. Without going into spoilers The Dark Knight was filmed in Chicago and you'll be able to tell right away that it just doesn't feel like Gotham lacks that gothic aesthetic and simply just comes across as Batman in Chicago. But besides the aesthetic The Dark Knight is the better movie I just wish they put more effort into the city same goes with Dark Knight Rises. I personally prefer the Tim Burton movies depiction of Gotham which heavily inspired the Animated Series and even the comics so excited for you to watch those. Yep lol it's become a meme at this point with people doing these super funny Batman Bale Batman voices. Much prefer Kevin Conroy myself but most people do get used to the Bale voice by the next movie. In terms of origins this film pulls heavily from Frank Millers year One. This was something Frank Miller added to the Batman canon before this Bruce never left Gotham city to train and as you can see from this movie Bruce left to train across the world. Overall a great film and my personal favourite in the Nolan trilogy.

Christopher nolan knows how to direct the cinemotography, acting and writing was very well done and the music just sets the tone for everything I love it. Them taking time to show how Bruce is batman and what he learned was great and his and Alfred's relationship. I love how they throw quotes back at each other in this too so many memorable lines and I mean Rachel isn't wrong like Bruce can never really have a real relationship with anyone while he is Batman same with Selina Selina doesn't know who he really is but then again Batman is who he is Bruce is jsut the public persona

Tayyib Majumder

This is actually my favourite of the trilogy the development of Bruce and the atmosphere of gotham is great in this movie. And I just love the theme of fear and vengeance and the dialogue is so great can’t wait for you to watch the rest

2026-09-19 17:00 'OMG' is pretty such my summation too. Like you figured, I grew up watching the animated series, disappointed in Batman & Robin but this combined with Casino Royale sold me on franchise reboots, even exceeding its sequel in my eyes with its all-star performances and great eye for details (watch Cinema Wins Batman Begins for a lot of great stuff you might have missed). Speaking of recommendations, Gotham Knight is an animated 'mid-quel' of several short stories set between this and The Dark Knight that I strongly recommend you try watching before TDK or after. Rachael Dawes is usually seen as the weak link of this trilogy (indeed a common complaint leveled at Christopher Nolan is a hyper-masculinity that doesn't do female characters well), but I liked her. She captures how frustrating it must be to be a hard-working honest DA in Gotham and tries to push ahead with proper justice refusing to be scared off by the possible reprisals, pointing Bruce at the true root of most of the evil in Gotham; the rich drug kingpin whose business turned Joe Chill into a twitchy addict who had to resort to mugging people to get his next hit. You may have also noticed that Liam Neeson is being an evil version of his Qui-Gon Jinn character here. As Caleb suggested, a more grounded setting means that we can't have a truly immortal Ra's Al Ghul but instead it is the title that becomes immortal by being passed on to worthy successors (in the comics, Ducard is one of Bruce's several mentors, and he is evil there too). It's my headcanon that if Bruce had remained with the League of Shadows and embraced their ideals, that successor could have been him. As you can figure I could talk about this one all day. STILL my favorite after 18 years. You can see the Arkham influence in a lot of places, and it is entirely possible that were it not for this film trilogy's success, the Arkham series might never even have existed (in fact Begins did get a video game adaptation too, with the tutorial in the League monastery as Caleb suggested!). 1:44:14 Sure, if you can buy it from Jay Leno. 1:58:33 It is rather surprising that Ra's and Poison Ivy hardly ever team up. 2:16:29 'Drunken Billionaire Burns Down Home. Evil Ninjas Definitely Not Involved'

Love the Dark Knight Trilogy! Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson are my favorite live action Batmen, though Kevin Conroy will forever be MY Batman. But yeah, love this! Can’t wait to see your reactions to the other two movies in this trilogy! Oh btw, I sent the Batman graphic novels (No Man’s Land plus a few others) a couple of weeks ago. Have you gotten them in the mail yet?

KrakenKing

Is anyone else kinda annoyed but this ACAB stuff?

Light Yagami

So humbled to be a producer 🥺😂

Mage Reacts

CASEY! There you are! We opened them a couple days ago and I couldn't remember how you reached out. Thank you SO MUCH! Caleb freaked out about one of them because he claimed it was rare. So grateful. Appreciate you!

Nugmonster

nah, all cops are bastards so it's fair.

Casey

Yay! Happy to do it! 😁

Like I get your thing about Rachel but you gotta think of it from her perspective. To her, he was wasting his life and money doing stupid things so she's not wrong. She obviously doesn't know what he's been doing, how he's been helping more than she knows, but she didn't know. So she was roasting him because she knew he was a good person and expected better of him. But she still cares about him. The romance might not work for you and yeah thats fair but from that perspective it makes perfect sense why he's constantly trash talking him but also being nice when it counts. Also be prepared that Rachel got recasted in Dark Knight. Maggie Gyllenhaal plays her instead of Katie Holmes.

pinkura

I can't help myself but keep visiting your patreon page to check if your reaction to TDK is finally up 😁

Martin Li

Exactly. From her perspective she is risking her life and working her butt off to make a difference, and she sees her old friend doing nothing but partying and dating celebrities while Gotham falls apart.

DannyBoy

You gotta watch Gotham Knight the animated film it takes place in between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight
