Another great reaction. But be careful, you're starting to overthink things and heading down multiple rabbit-holes. Having said that, you're still great and catching things a lot of other reactors miss.

Mage Reacts

Story of my life, LOL! I'll shut my brain off until next episode :)

I love how Amos immediately supports Holden despite any misgivings, the development of the friendship from season 1 is amazing. I also love how Naomi immediately points out that it isn't Holden. At the start of season 1 Naomi and Amos where ambivalent at best about Holden. Now they are his best friends. Also Meg something you might have missed is that for a split second they show a bit of protomolecule in the Roci that has been there hidden away since around the middle of season 2. It's from when the protomolecule Hybrid got on the Roci during episode 6 of season 2 I think.

Yes, they're inside the ring! Brace yourself, it only gets crazier from here!

I love how this episode goes from intriguing and slightly humorous to "OH SHIT WHAT'S GOING ON" in a split second. Melba certainly feels upset about the things she's done to get to this point, but her smile when she detonates the bomb shows she was definitely behind it and ultimately her mission (whatever that might be) matters greatly to her, more than anything or anyone else. It's also easy to miss but you see "SYS.LINK TO ROCINANTE" when she does this, so we know it's her sending the simulation of Holden at the same time as she does this. It then looks like the broadcast is coming from the Roci, and also stops them from being able to fight or answer anyone to explain the situation. But as for why, you'll find out soon enough :D I don't think it's much of a spoiler now to say that The Investigator is protomolecule related; it appeared the second the ring turned on, and when Holden is in the airlock trying to get him to show up, we see a quick close up of the protomolecule glob underneath the Roci's hull glowing like it was active. The Investigator also first appears saying things like "Bones like chalk" (Anderson Dawes' speech in S1E5) and other things only Miller would have known or said like the Loca Greiga and other cop related things. It's definitely harder to adapt this from the book because it's literally spelled out what's happening on the pages, but in the show you have to sorta piece things together. I'll admit I was a bit confused on my first watch through, but the answers are actually all spelled out here too! There's just so much going on so it's easy to miss. Holden asks "Why me?" and The Investigator replies (paraphrasing here) "Because you have a ship that goes places, I'm a tool that finds things. We're tools". He then goes on to say (again paraphrasing) "It reaches out, 113 times a second it reaches out but it does not find, so it kills The Investigator, it kills The Investigator over and over then it builds The Investigator until it finds a door that wasn't there before". Basically, we know the protomolecule is looking for something, and is trying to use Holden to get to it. As for why... you'll also find out soon enough! :D Always love the reactions Meg, you're the #1 Expanse reactor! Looking forward to next week!

Getting stuck on Holden not showing up in the mirror gave me a good giggle!

The last shot is a bit difficult to make out without the context from the next episode, but they're not through the Ring exactly. We can see in that shot that both the Roci and the missile are still headed towards the Ring. It's more like they are within the grasp of the Ring in the split-second before entering.

Love the reaction, Meg. And the festive background. I think I'll leave the multi-page essays to someone else this week. But I wanted to wish a Happy Thanksgiving to you and Caleb and to your families, furry and otherwise. Hope you have a nice holiday!

Tony Camas

I think I've heard people from the show say that they actually *are* through the ring at that point -- there's actually a reason you can tell, but I don't want to mention it here because it's semi-spoilery. But my understanding is that they definitely are through the ring; it's just that the camera angles don't make that clear because they're still very close to the ring and it's quite enormous. Doesn't in the end matter that much, though. Either they're through or they will be very soon.

I'm an INFP! Work made us "leaders" take the Myers Briggs test and I was definitely the oddball out. INFP-T

Tony Camas

I'm curious, of those here (including Meg & Caleb) who've done the Myers-Briggs thing (or one of the similar ones), have you found that your type has been consistent over your life, or has it changed as you've grown and collected life experiences? For instance, I remember taking Myers-Briggs in high school, and at the time I came out as an INTP or INTJ (I don't remember which), but recently when I've taken the quiz, I've come out as something else -- ENFP (ENFP-A, to be specific) most recently (just took the test at 16personalities.com today). And it's not like I'm that close -- I'm pretty solidly in all four categories (63% Extraverted, 68% Intuitive, 66% Feeling, 74% Perceiving/Prospecting). I've evidently become some sort of enthusiastic, social hippie in my old age, when I used to be more of an engineer type. I wonder what forces I've run into over the years that have molded me that way.

Varun Laks

Yeah I think I've heard Ty describe it both ways at different times lol. I believe it was on the AfterBuzz podcast where he said they were not through, and then on Ty & That Guy where he said that they were. I think as you said, it's mostly just semantics and a product of the camera persective we got. That last shot of Space still looks like regular Space to me with the Stars, but if the camera rotated, I think we would see that they did enter. And overall the difference is pretty irrelevant. I think the idea is that the entrance isn't really "flat" and we're basically getting that moment of them entering.

DrEEsky

So interesting! I took the test and came out INFJ-A (ie Advocate) which does actually suit me. I am very interested in promoting others and passing on my knowledge to the next generation of physicians. But I am also introverted and love my time alone. I think we do change over time which is reflected by a change in the outcome of the test.

Tony Camas

Yeah, Ty is awfully slippery on the subject, isn't he? :) I think what sealed it for me is (mild spoiler ahead - if anyone is concerned about same, don't read beyond here) the distortion of the star field you can see around the edges of the ring in that last shot. And also, the purple glow around the missile, though again, why that's significant isn't known until the next episode.
