Man, this might be one of my favorite Batman villains. I need ALL his content!

To add more details of the American Nightmare doc I watched on Netflix, there actually was a detective that reminded me a lot of Gordon. Her name is Misty Carausu, and she changed the lives of the victims, because she cared. 😭❤ Would highly recommend if you need some faith in the system and the "helpers" as Mister Rogers and his Mom would say ❤

Lock-up (BTAS)

A Batman double-bill, you can't go wrong😉

One of my favorite original characters of the animated series. Lockup is essentially Batman if he had no empathy and compassion for his foes and instead just made himself judge, jury, and executioner. It’s a very scary thought. Lockup appearances exploded in the comics after this episode aired, it was cool to see. Even recently there was a line of retro style Animated Series toys/figures that were put up for sale and if you bought certain ones, you’d collect all the pieces to put together the Lockup figure.

Yup this was one of the episodes I was waiting for you to get to and it was another of my favorite reactions from you. This was another amazing original character from this show that no one really talks about or knows unless you're a fan of the show or comics cause I believe he showed up in the comics not too long after this. This episode also answers a question I recall you asking about Bruce and wondering if he has ever tried to improve Arkham Asylum, considering that it's just a revolving door for the villains to just break out and be sent back in over and over again. Well Lyle Bolton is the answer since he was put in as chief of security at the Asylum by the Wayne Foundation and you can tell after seeing how Bolton is, Bruce has regrets over it. Also the criticisms that you made about Batman are absolutely valid. I usually hate the usual criticisms he gets of "oh he's privileged guy who beats poor or mentally ill people." But I feel most people who say that don't actually understand his character at all and only base that off of the live action movies, which mostly don't do a good job at showcasing all sides of Batman. Happy we got a BTAS double upload. I'm excited for the next episode as it's technically the final episode of BTAS S3. And also it's an incredible episode that features a character that I know you and many of us love, mainly thanks to this show

Lock up was doing some very horrible things to the people at arkham, but on the other hand he was keeping them in, arkham clearly does need better security but not malicious security. while some there like harley, ivy or freeze do legitimately need help, others like joker, bane and croc are just actually evil, and while they never show it because kids show, its implied they have been responsible for deaths. Some people think batman should kill or should be as brutal as lock up, but ive always said the people of gotham should vote to change their laws, alter the insanity plea so people like joker cant just keep getting sent to arkham. batman has even shown in the past that if a criminal is sentenced to death, he isnt against it if they are actually guilty, the start of arkham origins even was the execution of calendar man

Idk too many comics with Lock-Up in it, but he did play an important role in the No Man’s Land storyline

Casey

And I think I’ve heard a very recent storyline is about some sort of rebranding for Arkham Asylum, but I’m not 100% because I’m a little behind on the current comics

Ya know in my opinion Bolton aka Lockup was exactly what Arkham needed to keep those damn gotham freaks in check in there and I think Batman should've just left him alone to do his job instead of having him investigated in the first place. Also I can't wait till you reach Superman TAS season 3 and then Justice League TAS!

Another great villain that debuted in this show like harley quinn who would go on to be added to the comics. Usually its the other way around. This show is revolutionary and changed batman forever without it there would be no harley, no lockup, renee montoya, the phantasm, mr freeze’s wife, and so on and so on. It is still the best version of batman and is better than all of the movies. Why? Because of t accurately adapts the comics and isn’t afraid too introduce new characters and ideas.

'Another fine villain brought to us by the Wayne foundation' -Robin It's true you hardly see Lock-Up anywhere else, as he's another original creation of this series and people would be reluctant to use him for the reasons you discussed. There is a limit to how far one can deconstruct a setting without having the main characters either act to change things drastically from the US status quo or look foolish, but I can totally buy the idea that no matter how charitable and philanthropic Bruce is, he still can't change Gotham all on his own. It's the city with the biggest wealth gap in a country infamous for titanic wealth gaps. Bruce tries to set an example, but most other billionaires don't share his viewpoint, as you'll see more of in another upcoming episode... There are some other characters similar to Lock-Up's stance being much harsher towards the Rogues than Batman without any compassion for them, and they're just as dangerous. Remember Mask of the Phantasm?

BlastOff

Lock-Up would've been perfect in Arkham City as Hugo Strange's chief of security.

I can see Lock-Up as an enemy of Nightwing in Bludhaven.

It's no koinkydink that this episode was aired on the heels of the 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act that kicked what has become the prison-industrial complex into high gear. That's what I love about guys like Dini and Timm. They were able to sneak all sorts of almost semi-prophetic sh*t into the plots of some of these episodes. The real irony is that Lock-Up wouldn't be considered a villain in today's society.
