I haven’t watch the reaction yet but I knew from the start that you weren’t gonna like the opening scene. Considering Bruce Timm was involved with the show, it’s no surprise to fans who despise the Bruce/Barbara ship. I don’t know if you haven’t read Batgirl Year One but it’s a good one but it covers Barbara’s first year as Batgirl in the comic universe. Also develops her and Dick’s relationship if you like the ship. They’re soulmates. They’re great together in the current Nightwing run and even have a dog. It’s why I brought up once on Twitch that you & Caleb would make a good Dickbabs cosplay. ^^

This was another great episode that was without Batman for once cause he was taking a business vacation in Paris. Also you're right about Bruce Timm and his sick shipping of Batman & Batgirl! He really should've kept that mess to himself and besides those two are supposed to be mentor and young underling not lovers.

Yeah, the dream sequence is weird. I like your idea of Catwoman teasing her and then having a heart to heart though, maybe even making a comment on how Robin, the “boy blunder,” seems to have a crush on her or something like that lol Apart from that though, love this episode! Always love it when either Batgirl or Catwoman show up!

Yeah I'm with you like a lot of us are on the whole Bruce and Barbara ship. While it's not uncommon for younger people to have a crush over older people, you're right that it's weird for it to even exist. It's one of the few big gripes I have with this show and this version of the characters. Though I believe I have heard besides Bruce Timm, that there have been other comic writers that have either put Bruce and Barbara in a relationship or have had Barbara have a crush for him, just like in the show. And as far as I know those weren't comics connected to this show so I don't think Timm had influence on them. And not just Barbara but they've also sort of done the same thing with Dick in the comics as well with some subtexts of him secretly having a crush on Bruce, which is just as weird, especially when you consider that Bruce is considered a father figure and mentor to both Dick and Barbara. Though I think those have either been retconned or it's just something that DC just doesn't bring up at all. Other than that, I think this was a pretty awesome episode and I think it was cool to have a first time team up of Batgirl and Catwoman in this show. To answer your question of an all girl team, I know of two that exist in DC. Birds of Prey and Gotham City Sirens. Gotham City Sirens consist of Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn. Whereas Birds of Prey usually consists of Batgirl/Oracle, Black Canary, Huntress, and Lady Blackhawk. Though Catwoman, Poison Ivy, and Harley Quinn have collaborated with the Birds of Prey sometimes so they could be considered recurring members. Thanks for the reaction Meg and can't wait for more! I meeean, *I* *personally* don't reeeeeally care much; Babs is like nineteen/twenty and Bruce is under forty here, she can do what she wants/pine after whoever... It was also always much more palatable/innocent in BTAS/Batman Beyond (i.e; no kid I knew ever batted -HA - an eye at it at all). This all said, the problem comes, when twenty years later; Bruce Timm, left pretty much to his own devices, writes and has *T H E I R* scenes (yes especially *that* one) play out like Bruce being semi r*ped/gr**med *by* Barbara, in The Killing Joke Animated Film.... That was V no bueno/hard to get through.........

At any given time, all works of art that are in progress are meant to impress me and be exactly as they are. We’ve all worked in animation for at least 30 years, so we all know, and can back each other up easily by agreeing that if Bruce timm works on a project, he has to promise to have our best interests in mind, because he’s not trying to say something in code, that goes against his contract. It’s far too much for us to think about projects that he doesn’t want to work on, and the wb executives, like all of our corporate bosses would never screw someone over and would never be interested in slavery and robbing fellow citizens of anything. Bruce timm should know that if he’s going to be sarcastic with us because we never really put ourselves in his shoes, than he’s a meany and we win and we are right and not him because together, we could be a far superior storyteller.

I got lost in the sarcasm and I’m half asleep, but who here has gotten their twelfth Covid shot and have become so accustomed to receiving them, that you rushed the guy doing the paperwork for #12? What would you do after finding out that he was the only one at that pharmacy to push for not making the vaccine mandatory, and everyday was a fight to work five times as hard for stuff he didn’t think should become the new status quo. And he would have quit, but there’s a gun pointed at his head whenever he tried to get away. So fuck him when he’s not doing it at the speed I expect him to. And what about everyone who stopped getting them after #4? Anyone willing to admit that their choice to get to #4 and then stop was based on doing what was comfortable for you based on everyone else’s decision and your fear of being afraid of what you’re told to fear? Probably not because you’re so focused on creating the dcau and spend the rest of your career at all of the different animation studios of your choice. There’s so many now, and they’re all dying to take you in. Why do we think he needs to impress us and doesn’t have anything else on his mind? Who the hell would only do adaptations of shit that already exists, when the best possible outcome is to do exactly what’s been done already? And say you’ve got an awesome suggestion or valid complaint. If you’ve given all of those adaptations a shot, why would wb try to do anything different if your money and attention are going to whatever they put out anytime? Batgirl romances tend to be in the beginning of his works that force an explanation for her motivation to fight crime or force a reason for the stakes to be higher. Probably to get the shit out of the way, and get past the corprate checklist of quotas of things that you don’t want to add for the movie you don’t want to make. Think he’s never dealt with our kind being the outcast artist his whole life? He knows 10% of all people are able to put themselves in another persons shoes, and even fewer can walk a mile in them. But almost all of them can cry about how they want to see new Batman beyond or that they need to hear Kevin Conroy again. What if all the attention some of us gave to criticize batgirl romance scenes that were messed up on purpose, serve as proof that it’s our own fault that there hasn’t been anything original and any better than a recycled story from 30 years ago. Bruce timm doesn’t consider us to be his equals in understanding comics, especially when we take all the wrong things seriously and assume to be on the side of good because no one’s told us otherwise. We put the brakes on any potential stuff that might’ve come out. There’s not a single entity responsible, but you don’t think that he was looking forward to working with Kevin and mark again, and never will. No one is doing timm a favor by pretending to have read killing joke after watching the animated adaptation. Is there really anyone who’s read all the comics and was still excited about every release of every adaptation? Some people can see clearly that people were having fun doing the tv shows, and without looking down on others, find it impossible to mention the dcau and the dtv adaptations in the same sentence. If you had dreams once or understand the burdens of Conroy, Jesus, and timm, then you’d also know how much earlier you gave up on life in comparison to them. Don’t make up for it by claiming that you understand their work and reasoning. Jesus is getting fucking pissed, and I’m taking his side for once. The newer you are to this stuff, the less responsible you are for where it’s headed, and if you like something I hate, then I’m envious of how many more options you have than I do that you’re able to enjoy. But no one knows the reason something is done the way it’s done besides the creator. Not everyone’s opinion is worth the same as the rest. We all want to be known as an expert on the internet because real humans don’t take us seriously. But people who indirectly avoid responsibility for indirect instances of indirect sabotage of voice actors and creative spirits cause me to type too long and make me wish I was still drinking. Oh yeah their lack of experience makes their opinion worthless to me, but only voiced because they’ve heard someone else endorse it and 2 or more can’t be wrong and then that voice gets bold, making it think less and agree more. I don’t need to prove that timms the best I’m im his biggest fan, but doesn’t anyone think it’s messed up that the one crisis trailers, a really long one, has more than one scene, clip of music or identically delivered line of dialogue lifted directly from JLU? Why doesn’t that raise a red flag? It’s ok to hate. It’s sometimes the only way to be able to hear Kevin Conroy as Batman. All we have to do is not keep watching these crisis movies the rest of the year just cuz there’s nothing else on. Is it to far fetched to actually admit that I’m confident in saying that any episode of JLU that you choose to watch is better than all of these crisis movies that I’ll gladly judge by hearing about someone else’s review of just it’s cover. If someone mentions timms shows in the same sentence as these crisis terds… I forgot. Point is, if you’re gonna be blind and talk about art without art experience, at least fix your sarcasm detector, because we’ll never hear Kevin as Batman again, and other tragedies occur when you keep pretending to care by successfully dodging blame that’s not even approaching you

And as much as we all want to appreciate Barbara Gordon, has there ever been a time when her motivations for putting the costume on make sense and feel like the obvious decision? What if it was you rolling through production of that season, when the storytelling feels natural, and you get interrupted to have more kid friendly episodes, and band is gonna need something origin-y to remind everyone what happened the last time we forced her in. Even her first action figure was rushed and incorrect. If we knew anyone else’s name involved in a project at wb, we could’ve just blamed them to the same effect. Look at us assholes who are so scared of failure that we can’t try to draw for more than a minute today. He’s more pissed off at the hand he’s been dealt, and all we know is shitting on him? Why not shit on Alan Moore for not adding pages so that Bruce wouldn’t be forced to create filler footage? When most of us think that kids need to respect us so they turn out decent, you’re really just forcing ra’s hand or creating his followers.

I think it’s even more fucked up to see something that’s fucked up and then start talking about it as though you’ve got a decent understanding of it. Again, most people fail the dual spinning fish, and think they can jump in now as if they understand art calling you out. For the second time in a similar way! Couldn’t see how it was just as graphic the first time and used as a way to communicate, could you? No one was expecting you to. And how can I prove that I know how he feels, I don’t, and that’s exactly my point. But at least I reacted to robins fish. Not being able to read between the lines makes some people more responsible for the romance stuff than people who worked on the film

Even if Barbra is an adult it’s still just weird to ship them together especially cause she’s been with ( in other iterations ) Dick Grayson mainly and I’m glad we are seeing Barbra and Dick work together a bit here and there. On a positive note love that Bruce trusts Dick enough for him to leave the city on a business trip and handle business himself

When the Bat's away, the Cat will play with the sidekicks. Nice to have another Batgirl focused episode even if it does need to bring in the aforementioned Bat-Barbara kink. Barbara doesn't really have much inner darkness to work with, probably because of her dad (notice how she immediately sours on her mentorship with Selina as soon as she calls Gordon a 'senile old fool'). Even after the tragedy that turned her into Oracle, Barbara never pressures Batman to kill the Joker, unlike some other sidekicks who have been hurt by him. Last bow for Roland Daggett here, getting ever closer to Season 4. I think I liked Ed Asner better as J. Jonah Jameson in the Spider-Man animated series.

And even if he’s the only artist on the planet whose works have always had the goal of impressing all of us here and never for his own fulfillment, why would he feel like our opinions mattered after not understanding. Think if hes paying attention, he’s sorry and wants to make it up to us? Some of us hate everything he’s been involved in in some way after 2006. I think it’s just as sick to not appreciate the fact that animation can die out in this country at anytime now, and people see his lose-lose situation as storytelling to be analyzed. When he puts something that he doesn’t want you to like into his own project, if all you can say is that you agree with someone who also said that they didn’t like the fucked up thing and want credit or acknowledgment for noticing that the obviously fucked up thing is a result of bad decision making especially when they’re only trying to impress those with superior intellect, I suppose you’re right, in a way that makes you 100% wrong sort of. If you’re witnessing an mass ax murder taking place in front of you, and you stop and tell whoever’s closest to you repeatedly that the killer is chopping up people with an ax, this is the wrong place for that, and your enjoyment of the day is ruined now, I guess your not wrong, but where’s the benefit of not even seeking answers or explanations. Maybe if everyone who hates how wrong it is for those scenes to exist, and confront all of those who love those scenes. Then you can all go flip through every comic ever made, until you’ve found every image that an artist has hidden due to frustration with management. Make sure you let everyone know that the artist was wrong because you feel like the story didn’t call for the hidden boners that you found.humanity really could use that insight in these troubled times. How about trying to see their side and accept it as the best thing ever. Now all you have to do is wait for the next time robin mounts Batman so you can prove that you finally understand that fictional characters fictional characters should be put on trial for being sarcastic. Your observation skills will do the world the same amount of good as the guy in this YouTube video I left playing who’s going through a box of comics he picked up, and is acting like he knows something, but he’s just reading the title and number, and then says mmmmmmmm to kill some time, before he says that’s a cool cover. And if he really has no idea what the book is, he says that everytime he sees that title in the dollar bin, he picks them up. It’s my own fault for getting angry. He’s not even being sarcastic. You know how Kevin Conroy could’ve just stopped providing voice work, but didn’t? He could’ve survived cancer but chose to fail us all. Let’s launch an assault on him next because I love his work and he’s even a better human in person. When I pay for the next in the series, they better just play it safe and have the book instead of the blu ray inside so that I don’t have to pretend I read it anymore. Then I can practice saying that I grew up with the comics and always heard Kevin’s voice everytime I read Batman. Who’s going to act like they read crisis before the trilogy is done. I’ve never read it. Too busy bashing Kevin for not being in it

I don’t remember the comics that reference it but supposedly there is subtext where Dick secretly had feelings for Bruce, despite also dating Barbara. Though you might be right that it wasn’t romantic, from what I remember reading, it still does come off as weird though

Or it’s like instead of a stop sign that reads “stop” and instead contains every one of these posts for the text instead. It’s not the first time you’ve come across one of these, and the only effect that it had on you was that you noticed it wasn’t what it’s supposed to be, and you need to stop seeing it. And some people agreed and felt really bold in their position. Just seems like a morning of even more wasted effort. For those of us in hell, insignificant things still bother us. Maybe you’d like to leave a story of your own when you were at your lowest so someone can misunderstand it and get others to agree with similar opinions from poor readings of the source material until everyone who did more in life that is can be remembered by our ignorance, and if we don’t use the word “hate”, no one will ever realize how hateful we are. If we outnumber someone, it still means we’re right, right?

I would love a Batgirl story that focuses on all the expectations as a "golden child." So much so, that she rebels. Of course I still need to read Year 1, but I love that she's rebelling against her dad and the "perfect" way of doing things, because it's failing in her eyes. Kind of like Light and the Chief, where he idolizes his dad so much it turns into chaos

This is also the last we see of Melissa Gilbert as Barb, who did not reprise her role for the SubZero movie, and was replaced by the late Mary Kay Bergman. For unknown reasons she didn't want to carry on with the role, and it then went to Tara Strong! voice of many characters, who has also been providing the voice of Raven for years now in another DC animated show I think you'll enjoy a lot when the time comes.. Yep, teenager Barbara was interesting in Arkham Origins, seeing all the stifling corruption in the system her dad works in and cooperating with Batman to change things. But she'll always love her dad, and that's part of why she'd want the corrupt superiors brought down before they arrange to have him killed or use her to blackmail him.
