FINALLY

Unholy

Frieren Mondays are here!

LM Reactions

for the next 10 weeks we’re all gonna pretend monday is friday

Robert Dirk H.

I reject this reality. Now we have to rewatch Frieren 1x01 on our own :(

Daniel Molina

Even if its just 10 episodes, i cant describe the HEALING this show provides for me. Its just unmatched 🤍

TC

Prime time is back

Truemeathead

Yoooo, I haven’t watched it yet but I just seen yesterday that the artist who drew the color pencil animation is the same artist who worked on the color pencil animation for the Kuma flashback in One Piece. That looked so good in One Piece, it was one of the best episodes out of all 1100 plus, stoked to check this out now.

sand_fl

Jfjsksks literally 20 minutes away from home. Let's hope the ride home is quick enough! Been waiting for this!

LM Reactions

i haven’t rewatched frieren to keep the dream of rewatching the first 4 episodes alive

B11zzard1991

Can believe season 2 is real.

Unholy

I will wait for however many days, on whichever day, for Frieren <3

Maria

I just have to say Milenas hair looks stunning omg

Scared Cannon

I bet 20 bucks with a friend that you guys would cry in the first episode. I didn't win anything, though... we both thought you'd cry.

LM Reactions

i mean, that must be the safest bet in history

Scared Cannon

I cried too, this show is just something else.

Devon O'Chinnigan

Haven't watched yet, but I half expected them to wait to release this on Friday to continue Frieren Fridays

MJ

Happy Frieren Monday everyone !! It’s good to be back ! 🎉

Daniel Molina

Unfortunately the manga is currently on hiatus indefinitely due to the author’s poor health :/ with one more full season the anime would be almost caught up with the source material, so im sure thats why we are only getting 10 episodes. Sadly the real disturbing trend is the poor overworking of these creators. The Frieren manga has taken multiple hiatus’ due to the author’s health and the anime director left the project citing exhaustion. We have seen it for this series, One Piece, JJK, and even this week Bochii’s author announced a hiatus due to poor health. If there was one thing i wish i could change about the anime/manga industry is to give these creators time to complete their art without literally working themselves into poor health 😭

Jay Craig

My babies Stark and Fern are back for a few weeks, all is right with the world

Robert Dirk H.

I completely agree with your feelings. All the fans have just been discussing, whether we'll get 22 episodes + movie or 28 episodes. Only 10 episodes doesn't make sense. You'll understand that, because after episode 9 & 10 you will feel uncomplete, and then we'll have to wait until 2028/2029 to see how it continues, because the animation director and his team are already booked for another project. That's really disappointing. At least those 10 episodes will have some great moments. My prediction is that episode 3 or 4 OR 6 or 7 (he he, six-seven) will be your favorite episode this season. Depends how they will adapt the chapters. Let's just enjoy the ride :D

Jack SV

Man I wish I could enjoy this anime like y’all but I just can’t lol idk what it is about it that doesn’t resonate with me or find interesting. I did my best to gave it a fair chance but is like.. idk.. is hard to explain but it feels very artificial. That’s the best word to describe how I feel about this anime. Anyways see y’all for Pluto.

LM Reactions

do they have labor unions in japan, this just happens way too often

Robert Dirk H.

Lola: "There has been a single line spoken and that made me think 'Oh something will happen with that'. Unless I rewatch, I will never remember." Milena: "I don't think this show has many of those." Yeah, sure. I will throw Episode 1x06 back in your mind next week :D

Jack SV

Ohh it happens very often. Idk about unions but it is a trend for Mangakas or manga authors to get health issues due to overwhelming schedules since most of them need to release a chapter per week and in order to keep the demand of those weekly chapters sometimes the authors would overwork themselves.. hell even the ones with a monthly schedule do this sometimes. Now some of them might do this on purpose to please their fans.. and god bless their hearts but they would willingly throw themselves to poor work conditions to do so.

Maria

Studio Geks pfp spotted

Robert Dirk H.

Working culture in Japan is something else sadly... The younger people are changing stuff but the anime and manga industry is still insane. I think I shared a link about a video a few days ago, in which a YouTuber visits an animation studio. The work load these people have is insane. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UN7IJvDqHk

Zerolysm

Frieren is my happy place

KIMI

Artificial is definitely not the word id ever use to describe the essence of this series but at least you gave it a shot and aren't hating on it

Sekraan

@Jack SV - the monthly manga series are longer and typically have even more detailed art so it's not much better for them. If you're lucky enough to be in one of the major publications at least you can get a team of assistants to help out. As for over working willingly, it's more so "voluntary" in the sense that the employers don't expressly tell you to work crazy hours. Rather, culture norms very much reinforce that you aren't a team player if you don't self-sacrifice, and that could have impacts on future work opportunities. I remember seeing an interview with an animation studio leader who attempted to change working hour expectations (forgetting the name at the moment). They figured that employees are less productive working themselves to death, and you get lower quality work. It took several years to change the culture as the animators would still work crazy hours even when told not to do so. The mentality is so engrained.

KIMI

I hope you guys eventually get around to watching A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms! Anways Frieren Fridays are so back!!

Spilled Wine

Frieren is all "That was scary" and she's smiling the whole time lol What a great re-introduction episode. There's really no flaw I can say about this adaptation, they elevate this series in pretty much every area.

.Mvnk

this show is literally my everything😭 a friend of mine had recommended the manga to me ages ago back in like 2021/22 but he described it as something that would make me cry a lot, so thought it’d be very depressing and put it off for reading. then the anime came out and i still didnt watch it immediately even though it had taken the entire community by storm. i think around 18 episodes had released when i finally decided to watch it and it absolutely captured my heart in a way only one other show has. Frieren & Mob are now two halves of my ❤️ I love many shows but these two are so special to me for their kindness & loving messages.

Sekraan

I get it. Some of the storytelling feels contrived to me; namely, the parallels between the current journey and the one with Himmel are so similar and pushed in your face so bluntly that it feels unnatural. I can't unsee the hand of the author, which makes it hard for me to be fully immersed. I really enjoy the characters though and the production of the anime is so good it elevates the material so I still enjoy the series, and considerably more so than the source material.

Robert Dirk H.

New vocabulary: Saum (Marshes) - hem, edge (typically refers to the edge of a piece of fabric or the border or boundary of a geographical area) (The Great) Sanft (Forest) - gentle, soft (Tavern) Weiche - switch, separator Fresser (monster) [Episode 22] - gobbler, devourer And here the list of characters from Season 1: https://imgur.com/a/frieren-characters-season-1-PKv91UW

Daniel Molina

Like Robert said, it is very much a cultural thing. Hopefully in a few years things truly begin to change. I saw this video a while ago of a day in the life on an anime director: https://youtu.be/UCPZzEbhNJw?si=VWLB1x3OE1X1ngPa This poor man had to work this hard every day, and this not even for a mainstream show. My first thought was, if this day is hellish, what is the day like for someone working on a popular show like Frieren, JJK or One Piece? 😓 its fascinating stuff but damn do i feel for these ppl.

Daniel Molina

I think its also worth noting Attack on Titan and Vinland Saga were both MONTHLY release manga, so its not like monthly releases cant lead to engaging successful stories. I really think that should just be the norm. Yes they go on for a while, but it seems much more manageable on the artists than weekly or bi weekly.

Synyster

I dont feel its forced that much at all. When I look at the show through a lens of Dungeons And Dragons, it makes so much more sense. Adventuring parties generally all do similar things. Help people in need, raid dungeons, fight monsters, hang out in towns, go shopping for gear and accessories. So I don't think it's a stretch to say that Frieren's new party is facing similar events as her old one. That's just the life of an adventurer.

Willy

Frieren is like a checkpoint in our lives, we can rest, get some heal and reflect about everything that happened before we can resume our journeys.

Synyster

Hiakyu was not after Frieren they ran at the same time for a bit. That's where Friekyu Fridays came from. You still had a good bit of Haikyu to finish after Frieren ended, I think it was just season 4.

James Long

I've seen some speculate that the reason they are only doing 10 episodes for Season 2 is so they don't catch up to the manga, which is currently on hiatus.

Samuel

La vida es bella, la vida es buena, regresa el grupo favorito de muchos ❤️❤️

A

Was this first episode mixed with lots of anime-only stuff that didn't happen in the manga? Or even was the whole episode anime-only? It kind of felt like it it, but not in a bad way. Best anime-only episode I've seen in a while, if so.

Robert Dirk H.

To be fair, Season 2 still could have 22 episodes and a movie 2 years later. Also the next arc after the potential movie has enough content for 12 episodes. They still have enough content for many years. The 10 episodes seems more like a "we need to push Frieren more" moment. It's understandable because Frieren got fucking big after Season 1. Merchandise, view numbers and sales skyrocketed. Still disappointing because the 12 episode long arc is so incredibly good. I think we are currently at 60% of Frieren's story in the manga.

Robert Dirk H.

They stretched the stories a bit. The beginning scene and the ending scene are anime original. If they wanted, they could have adapted 3 stories. But to be honest, I kinda hope that they stretch the third story to a whole episode. They could put in some hints about lore and story we will get later. I'm very excited about that.

Sekraan

It's more that the circumstances, words, and actions align too perfectly. It's not just similar events they are encountering; it's near exact reproductions, over and over. To the point where I found it undermined certain characters - as they begin to feel more like storytelling devices than actual individuals. If felt increasingly like a writing crutch. That said, my more specific complaints about this approach come further in the manga so I'll leave it there.

Robert Dirk H.

But how do you feel about the Arcs? The episodic stories are often parallels to the past with flashbacks to the Hero party with Himmel, but the Arcs almost have no flashbacks to the hero party.

My Toasty Toast

The show that gives me the most warmth and joy returns with the reactors that give me the most warmth and joy. I’m happy to save money on my therapist for the next 10 weeks

Jamie

Frieren said “you guys are in a crisis.. I’m on my way” the way it lined up with the last 2 seasons of Mad Men and the last 3 arcs of Andor.

Sekraan

@Robert - I've enjoyed the broader story arcs for the most part. There's a few upcoming that I really liked and am excited to see adapted. (tbd on current one, depends on how it wraps up. And there's one I'm more mixed on, that you could probably guess, but won't discuss to avoid spoilers)

Bryan

this just made my day, thank you

Robert Dirk H.

Attack on Titan Season 2 was a long wait :D

Robert Dirk H.

Yeah, I can kinda guess which one. I'm hyped for the current manga story arc because a lot of interesting stuff can happen there. Sad that we don't know when we get the next chapter, but I hope soon.

HenryM

Therapy is back on the menu

My Toasty Toast

The beginning conversation isn’t the only bad part. There’s a good chance that this may be the last Frieren we get until 2029-2030, because the animation producer is going to make an original anime movie called “ghost,” and typically they take their talent and animators with them on their projects. Of course, its not 100% confirmed that means no more Frieren until “ghost” is done, but it is typically how the industry operates

My Toasty Toast

This is one of the few stories where the show elevates the original source material. There were a lot of anime-original scenes, like Fern looking at and holding onto the bracelet Stark gave her in a scary moment being chased by a monster where she doesn’t have magic to rely on. The team making the show really understand the assignment

Isaac

Welcome back, everyone! <3

TC

Stark is faster at running than Frieren and Fern (without magic), that's why he carries them. As a warrior, Stark can carry them easily and keep running fast. It's not important anyway, but I wanted to clarify haha

Adrian Schmit

The character writing in Frieren is the best I've ever seen. I have never been so attached to fictional characters the way I am to Frieren, Fern and Stark. I think one reason there is only 10 episodes is that if there was 28 it would get very near to the end of he published manga, which keeps going on hiatus due to the health of the author and illustrator. That might mean that there might be a 2 or 3 year wait until there's enough material for a third season. I think they're having to space it out.

Sanjeh

The best reactions are back, absolute happiness

petitcorbeau

I didn't connect with the characters that much for some reason so I understand. Season 1 was still fine for me so I may watch season 2 eventually. But I can't wait for Pluto!

lili

Happy tears are the best!!

Jay Craig

The most poignant scene was anime only? Good to know. Yeah, they're GOATed then.

Mark M

Man I forgot how heartwarming this show is. Next week can't come soon enough!

watareee

omg they're already crying in the thumbnail, we're so back!!

Kris

Frieren has grown so much, to consider whether Stark might want to run away from a terrifying purple and green monster, whether it's a venomous apex dragon or Fern holding lettuce.

beannie

you have no idea how much i've missed your frieren reactions♡ i'm so excited

Adrian Schmit

Something weird is happening with YouTube. I watched this here, but it wasn't showing up on my YouTube recommendations (I'm subscribed), nor on the link I have on my TV to your channel. The link to watch on YouTube here works, but everywhere else where I access YouTube it is not visible. Maybe it's just me, but it's weird.

Lau

nothing will beat akatsuki no yona's wait. not even aot wait

miuliu

would truly love for you two to also check out jujutsu kaisen🥹🥹🥹

Jason Norwood

Patreon is getting it early so they still have it set to unlisted on YT so it's hidden unless you have a direct link to the video

ciaran campton

The dance with Stark and Fern in season 1 was similar wasn't it? If I remember right, their dance is only a couple of panels in the manga and ended up being several minutes on its own in the anime

Celiz Embuscado

aaah i haven’t started season 2! i’m still catching up with spy family and started with pluribus. but i am so happy frieren is back 😭❤️
