milna loving killua

What's up weebs, take a minute to fill out this survey. You can rate every show the girls have ever watched on the channel, and I'll post the results in a day or two to see which shows we all prefer 🙂 https://freeonlinesurveys.com/s/gPMMWGE3

TuiLa4

woooooo ty LM! <3

Spider #13

So - about Palm. She’s definitely a freaky frog no way around that. Just take in whatever you can concerning her character and how she interfaces with the world and see if you can figure her out. It’s pretty well hidden, but it’s there. Or if she’s just too unbearable and you can’t be bothered - very valid lol

Arcturus

I love Killua. He´s for sure the best character of HxH

Kya Colosseum

Happy new year guys! Hope you both have a fab Christmas Honestly there was absolutely 0 reason Togashi had to make Palm an adult, all of this would have worked just the same if she'd been 14 or something. Instead it completely muddies an otherwise good episode with unabashed pedophilia. It's such a shame as well because I think Hisoka being a nonce in a twisted way adds to his character, and really hammers home just how perverse the shounen trope of characters being obsessed with fighting and battle is. For Palm though it's just treated as a joke, which really undermines everything I think he did with Hisoka's predatory nature. Really is the only thing in the show I think is objectively bad, but thankfully it doesn't overstay its welcome.

Yū Nishinoya

I don't think Palm has the worst storyline, she is important and has an interesting character development

Isaac
>>126059966

Pretty much. Can't hit 100% of the time and this is a miss

Billy Overlord

Heres a reminder that Hunter x Hunter is a show/manga made for kids. The author thought the comedic antics of a grown woman dating a child was appropriate for children to watch.

Amber

yea i block out the palm stuff this episode lol on the brightside, at least we see some interesting stuff with the king and killua

Jack SV
>>126060571

Ehh.. she is important for only one thing. I won’t say what it is because of spoilers but even that thing is just purely eh..that’s all I’m going to say.

Yū Nishinoya

No no wait, Milena got it right. Gon met real pedophiles in his village and they actually taught him "things", Palm is a pedophile but she is not dating Gon because he is 10 years younger than her but because she is in love with the idea of love

Billy Overlord
>>126060634

also I love how you both said you wanted to forget the palm thing, because that is what I did! I rewatched the show when you started reacting, and good god, meeting palm again was such a shock. I had completely forgotten everything about her lol

Billy Overlord
>>126061152

I don't think there is any evidence that gon experienced anything sexual, but random women wanting to have a tour with Gon is creepy

HeavenlyR
>>126060571

I'd say if you can ignore everything before episode 95 she's a decent character for the rest of the show

Jack SV

Not gonna lie chief… I think this is the worst episode of hunter x hunter ever. We also learned some things about Gon..and Palm is a pedo, pls people don’t defend her..but .. yeah… this episode wasn’t necessary at all besides the Killua stuff and we now know Kite might be alive. And people say this arc is a 10/10 with such a horrible episode in it lol anyways don’t jump me HxH fans. Is just my opinion (๑･̑◡･̑๑)

Samsara

Happy New year !

Giancarlo Martinez
>>126061152

??? am I the only one who assumes those women just straight up taught him normal stuff? like "Gon always remember women like it when you are a gentleman"

Payam Sharifi
>>126061152

Tbh I feel like I'd have to understand Japanese to tell whether it's a joke about Killua misunderstanding Gon or Gon being too naive about pedophile women. But yeah either way it is uncomfortable how it's played off as a quick joke.

Amber
>>126061899

The arc can still be a 10/10 even with one trash episode of palm lol the rest the arc is great

Yū Nishinoya
>>126061152

That's what Gon is implying, he says women that go out just with younger guys and he called them maniac. Most of the translations used the word "cougars" that means "older women seeking a sexual relationship with a younger man"

Danny
>>126061899

I suppose its a matter of perspective. I think Hisoka is still far worse than palm so if your ratings is determined by 1 episode or one portion of an arc then by that logic HxH in general isnt good due to these moments - which i agree are disturbing. Funny thing enough, theres so much murder and disturbing stuff in HxH that somehow palm going on a date with Gon is pointed out as the most disturbing and just ruins a whole arc? Idk I think at some point ppl shud just not dwell on it all that much. It wasnt played as a "good" nor "serious" event so its not something to be all tripped up.

CCALAD

My absolute least favorite episode because of Palm. This anime would be better without her.

TheeEnglishKnight

hxh is my all time favourite anime and probably my second favourite franchise of all time (and i dont even watch anime/manga anymore) and i can still say i also really dont like this paedophilic palm 'saga' and most hxh fans agree. thankfully it really doesnt drag on though so it doesnt ruin the arc/show or anything like that.

Maraka

I always differenciated Hisoka and Palm regarding their relationship with Gon. Hisoka's attraction to power makes him sexually attracted to Gon, making him, among other things pedophilic. While Palm's behavior is definitely uncomfortable to watch, I never really saw her being attracted to Gon himself but moreso to the idea of being in love and needed. When they first meet, she goes on a never ending ramble about love and fantasize about how her relationship to her master could or could not be described as romantic. Throughout their training arc, Gon has ticked every single box she had in terms of "what love is" by his actions and the way he was speaking to her. Getting to know her, asking her for advice, showing her courage, he basically treated her the same as he treats anyone else (contrary to Killua for example), and while it was normal for him to do so, Palm interpreted that completely differently. To me that behavior was just another way to show her mental instability and obsessiveness. Gon is the one that really shocked me on the other hand. The implication that he might've been abused by older women (we're still not sure about what "things" he was referring to, could've been more innocent), and the way he handled a grown ass adult trying to seduce him almost made it seem like he knew what he was doing? Maybe you'll need to watch the next episode to see what I'm talking about, but I'm not sure it really fits his character. Like, we know Gon isn't innocent by now. He has been exposed to a lot, especially violence, and his ambiguous morality at time is to me a direct consequence of that innocence. The fact that he spent most of his childhood in a forest almost like an animal (that comparison was made multiple times) was what made him so ignorant and foreign to any complex human structures and conflicts. So it seems weird for Togashi to suddenly insert things such as pedophilia and prostitution in his time on whale island. But maybe it's just me. Anyway I would definitely consider that episode and short plotline as the weakest in the show. Not necessarily for Palm's behavior since I don't think it strays away from her character but more by Gon whose action kinda contradicts the point of his character a little bit.

Veya

Yeah the palm stuff is weird. Hisoka was at least an antagonist and very intentionally creepy and frankly a subversion of the occasional anime problematic “character falls in love with an underaged character” thing by having it be straight pedophilia and upfront (still gets less hate than Ging btw, this fandom is wild). Palm thing is just weird and played for comedy 🤷‍♂️. She gets better as a character but this was pointless as a plot beat.

asher wolfe

honestly i love palm, she's weird but such a great character, just can't say much without spoiling the show

JayPierlis

Yea this one is always a uncomfortable watch. But i can say palm’s character improves drastically throughout the arc and she serves a real purpose and the whole weirdo/pedo stuff gets dropped. Doesnt hurt the arc for me at all and its still my fav arc oat but if she stayed the way she was it definitely wouldve changed my rating. Once yall make it through ep 94 it all the palm nonsense should be over

TeaDrinker3000
>>126057160

Thanks so much to everyone who's responded thus far, we're at nearly 60 unique voters! And good lord The Rings Of Power is NOT seen favorably...

Rex Tan

Even though Palm is 22, she has a mental age of 12, and Gon is probably more mature in terms of people skills. I'm in no way shipping both of them, but its clear Palm has no bad intentions like corrupting young boys and I think Gon sees that. Gon is open to people without judging them, while Lola sees it as black and white like "one adult, one child, always very wrong". It's not like they're doing anything sexual, they're just talking, going to aquariums and parks, looking at trees, it's not THAT bad people.

Jamal Frank

Japanese pedophilia in pop culture AKA Lolicon is a thing. Let's compare it to Racism. I would say Racism is objectively adverse and as an American, we've made noticeable progress in addressing and rectifying it. Racism won't end anytime soon but I can imagine a day it does since it's a belief/ bias that's passed down or ignorantly adopted. The perseverance of open debate and empathy are key in that regard. On the other hand, I don't believe the same can be said about pedophilia. We're great at condemning and punishing the many horrible outcomes of pedophilia. However, the stigma alone prevents open debate and who in the world is sick enough to empathize with pedophiles? The causes of pedophilia are not well known and since there's a possibility that it's a naturally occurring sexual orientation, a lack of tact will only prolong this societal discrepancy. TLDR: I like Palm and Hisoka and as long as they're not sexually abusing kids, I'm fine with them being creepy freaks.

ridleymon

I think Palm is a fun character but some of her 'tendencies' are definitely handled in poor taste.

Rare

“I dub this place the Meat Plantation” is still the funniest line in the show to me. It’s not even a comedic line, but it’s so blunt.

Shivering King Banana

Palm isn't even the most disgusting character this arc. She's mentally unstable and young herself. Wait until you see how her teacher speaks to her. Total manipulation played off like a joke/romance. Makes me wonder where she learned this was ok.

Rare
>>126067966

I think it just shows that we really don’t know much about Gon before he left the island. He doesn’t really process things normally. I’ve always wondered if he’s relied exclusively on other peoples aura to judge things. Aura that has bad intent behind it is bad, aura without intent is fine. Doesn’t matter to him if the calmer aura comes from killers and other ne’er-do-wells.

R L
>>126061899

While I agree that over-all this is the best arc in the series, it's not a 10/10. There are episodes and moments in the arc that are subpar, and I'm being generous. This episode was heavy with cringe - and it was even intentional.

Seni Adeyemi

I have seen a shocking number of people defending or excusing Pam and even Hisoka. It’s disturbing.

Wallas
>>126060571

She has one of the most important scenes at the end of the arc, she is definitely an important character

Wallas

Killua stalking Gon is fucking hilarious, if Palm wasn't an adult woman this episode would be one of the funniest and cutest in the series...But Lola is right, it's best to ignore it lol, Palm will have a better story after these episodes. Killua and King scenes at the beginning are very good and save the episode

Justin Spencer

Isnt Pam like a teenager? Like leorio ?

Justin Spencer
>>126087164

So she’s got 10 years in them then? Wow didn’t realize that gap was that big yea yikes although they didn’t do anything more than go to an aquarium could have been hisoka levels bad. I actually know a few ppl with parents that have that big a gap in this scenario is predatory so I won’t defend it but I will say we don’t focus on it too much so don’t worry girls

SoClose

Let’s just be brutally honest… Double standards are real. Men & women just think different. That’s why it’s very common for men to joke and laugh about hot teachers banging their male students. There’s a reason why that’s a common fantasy when it comes to boys. Men are dogs the moment we hit that age and our balls drop. On the other hand we’re more protective when it comes to girls. It just doesn’t make any moral sense. It’s just how our brain works. A lot of masculine cultures perpetuate it more than others. So that’s why it’s less uncomfortable for me to see Palm being a creep than say Hisoka…or the show Usagi Drop. (Please don’t watch that garbage)

Max__
>>126060634

Hunter x Hunter is for kids? Wtf are you talking, HxH manga is brutal af, it's def not for kids

Billy Overlord

Do you not know what "shounen" means? Japan has totally different standards for what kids are allowed to watch lol

Billy Overlord
>>126061899

Danny, can you really not tell the difference between the murder in the story, versus the whole episode where a predator "going on a date" with a child is treated as "comedic" ?

Billy Overlord
>>126070720

did you READ the words you posted???? One adult and one child is ALWAYS VERY WRONG? What the hell is wrong with you? Any adult lusting after children is fucked in the head don't make excuses

Billy Overlord
>>126080243

read the patreon comments. One of them even critized lola for "seeing it in black and white, and assuming one adult and one child is always bad" You can also find a post on the HxH subreddit talking about palm, and so many people jump to defend her (just like Hisoka)

SoClose
>>126089697

Culture is just part of the equation. Teenage boys going through puberty trying to stick their weiner in anything that moves is how the male brain works. Are you really gonna deny that? As a man? Men being protective of women is also a natural genetic hardwiring.

SoClose
>>126070720

Lusting? Calm down. There's not a single scene in the show that show palm "LUSTING" over this kid. It's a harmless, very nonsexual date that's moderately creepy due to her age. When compared to other titles in this industry, this isn't anything to whine about really. You're doing the most. Too much moral grand standing. Like you want convince everyone you're a good guy who has nothing to hide lmao

Levi
>>126089697

No, the genders behave differently because they experience different societal pressures/expectations. That's it. Men aren't sleezier than women by nature- that's just what happens when you're the dominant gender and you don't have to worry as much about reprisals or judgement.

SoClose
>>126089697

^ LOL "That's it?" What are they teaching you kids in school nowadays? NO. Not even close. M/F behave differently because they're DIFFERENT GENDERS. Both male and female have varying natural tendencies regardless of "societal pressures." You can't throw out decades of evolutionary science and just ignore the obvious. Testosterone affects the way you act. The way you think. It affects drive, both sexual and general motivation. Men have NUTS. Women don't. That's the reason why we're "sleezier" on avg.

Jackamo Bailey
>>126059275

no please I would love to hear your framing of Palm as a character. I cannot see justifications for how her pedophilia is played as a joke and some plot movement. Always ready to hear more takes, though, but personally it is worse than Hisoka for me, and is by far my least favorite part of the show.

Jackamo Bailey
>>126059966

Couldn't have worded my thoughts better - it is a real real struggle, and with the racist caricatures in the beginning of this arc (Lin Koshi and Podungo) I do struggle to show it to people/rewatch.

Jackamo Bailey
>>126065572

Friendly reminder that when Hisoka was naked in the waterfall/pond, and when staring at Gon and Killua from behind, both instances were played for humor. I think people defend Hisoka more easily because he is more fleshed out as a character - we see 10x more of him, and therefore can more easily defend him as we know more about him. His pedophilia unfortunately adds to his character as an antagonist, whilst validating his character motivations when he toys with Gon, and eventually comes to help in in Greed Island (the pedophilia should never be played for laughs tho as it is, thats when it is dogshit writing and unnecessary).

Jackamo Bailey
>>126068434

Both the waterfall/pond scene and Hisoka looking at the two from behind afterwards are played for 'comedy' also. I can only think of a few more creepy scenes, so I personally argue the pedophilia for humor thing is omnipresent in the show sadly.

Spider #13
>>126059275

Probably gonna end up fleshing the explanation out into like a 20 minute video eventually, and also a pre-disclaimer that it took me seeing the show like 20 times to sift through my distaste for the character to actually attempt to analyze all of her information with any semblance of intellectual honesty - but the TL/DR for palm on the surface level is somewhat related to Hisoka, albeit not most of his antics (In most cases outside of battle I think he’s being a quirked up discord gremlin edgelord but that’s a whole other topic) - but obviously in battle he’s just a fight lusting crackhead with zero inhibitions as to how it presents. Translate that same concept to someone who instead of battle seeks love, with the pretense of having no love for themselves and it’s pretty easy to identify Palm for who she is. Not that I justify her nonsense, nor do I think Togashi does or ever intends to justify or resolve all of his characters. With that said I think in a general sense she’s Togashi’s dive into characterizing a love hunter, and both her absolutely abysmal self care, and her pivots to fits of both good mood and bad mood mania affer being the subject of the slightest validation go hand in hand with all that. In addition, her powers slot in seamlessly to the unhinged nature she has, as well as the volatile insecurity that would come with the void she suffers from. There you have it, overview of Palms bullshit (and probably immense baggage/trauma because that’s Togashi’s favorite thing). Once again, not justifying her freaky frog ass - just because you’re trapped in your madness does not excuse you from the consequences of the madness therein - but if you inspect pretty much everything she does from the time she shows up on screen and every appearance and interaction thereafter, it tracks. And that’s why I went looking in the first place, it bothered me to an insane degree that 20 times into the show I felt like I could identify the psychological slant of every character but one. Found it. Cheers.

Rex Tan
>>126070720

@Billy Calm down there buddy, lusting is a strong word, I dont know how you get that from watching Palm, who mostly just thinks of stabbing people, including Gon lol. Think about it, if a 32-year old woman goes on a date with a 22-year old man, nobody's batting an eye right? but if 22-year old goes out on a 12 year old, I agree 99% of the time it would be wrong. I guess HxH is one of those shows that makes you THINK: - Palm is not lusting on Gon - Gon has lots of experiences handling older women so he's perfectly capable of handling things - Gon isnt being corrupted or being taken advantage - Gon is doing this to make up for his failed promise - Everything they're doing are just WHOLESOME activities. Why do you think the author added the scenes explaining how Gon went on tons of dates with older women? It's not to justify Pedophilia, but it's to make us understand Gon knows what he's doing, more than Palm actually. And it makes us think that not everything in this world is Black and White, but it's actually mostly gray, like the Palestine-Israel conflict for example, or the Russia-Ukraine war. AOT perfectly depicts that morally gray shit, just war-related.

I would agree up until the point about the causes not being well known. This conversation gets way too deep and extensive to have in a hxh comment section lol, but there is extensive research on causes for pedophilia. Research has and always will be done, and its out there go look! As a society it is very easy to scapegoat different awful things such as pedophilia into seeming like the most atrocious things, beyond murder. We are dealing with countless murderers in a show like this. LOSS OF LIFE on an incredible scale, but pedophilia takes the cake as the worst attribute a human can have? It is really fascinating. They are all awful, damaging traits that have come from damage done to the individual in the first place. A perpetrator was always a victim first in my eyes at least.

Jackamo Bailey
>>126089697

M/F are different sexes, genders are the social and cultural pressures and expectations placed upon said sexes (i personally believe they shouldn't be but sadly they are lol). I'm not even gonna tackle what u said at the end there about men being sleazier just because they have testosterone jfc lol.

Jamal Frank
>>126071690

I know there’s research but no conclusive evidence. Regardless, I feel it’s a concept we’re quick to shun as if that alone might eradicate this phenomenon. For the record, I’ve worked with criminals and currently the homeless as I’m generally interested in understanding the outcasts of society.

Rahaf

The sad thing about palm, and it'll be more clear later, is that she is so mentally unwell and dependent on validation. There's no way I'm defending her and I believe this whole storyline was unnecessary and weird, but it does show more of her character. She just wants to be appreciated and treated nicely and gon gave her that. Of course its problematic because he's a child and nothing can make that okay, but I don't think she had any ill intentions towards him. She just wanted someone to be nice to her and appreciate her. Again, since so many comments are defending it, I'm really not. I just think she's sad and worthy of pity, that's all. I also think maybe that's what the author wanted to show with this side story, at least that's my interpretation of it after next episode.

Space Mechanic

If she didn’t view the date as romantic there would be no issue. The anime could’ve made Pam more depressed than murderous and have the date be Gon trying to pull her out of it because he feels responsible. Pam views Gon as cute and says something to the effect of “you’re going to make a great bf/husband for someone when you grow up”. Seen it done in loads of shows.

Levi
>>126089697

I get that you want to attribute awful behavior to some irresistible chemical factor and all you have to go on is intuition and bro science, but "nuh uh- the sexes are difference 'cause they just ARE!! Obviously!!" isn't the winning argument you think it is. Girls are just as horny as boys. They generally aren't as blatant about it *around men* because it invites unwanted attention/judgement. You sound like one of those "common sense" geriatrics trying to guess their way through a topic they've never actually studied. lol "men have nuts" your education on the subject stalled in preadolescence.

SoClose
>>126089697

“Girls are just as horny as boys…” Is a wild, unsubstantiated claim. No literature validates that. On the contrary, every stat from rape cases, to pornographic consumption points to men being more sexually charged. But keep denying reality. I wouldn’t expect someone lacking in testosterone to understand it.

Levi
>>126089697

You haven't had very many conversations with women, have you? Also the fact that you think higher rates of p*** consumption and rape perpetrated by men is an indication that we're more sexual really shows how smoothbrained you are. You genuinely can't imagine any other reasons why there might be a difference in sexual expression between the genders? That's just hilarious.

SoClose
>>126089697

@Billy You dont have the moral high ground to act like you're holier than thou. Clipping vtubers, cringy videos? Really? That's your excuse? Super Pervert Tier? You can fap on me? Why clip those parts on the first place? What you clip and share is 100% related to your character, unless you're just a clout chaser who's doing that for the clicks (which you're doing awful by the way). So don't judge people who defend Palm as wrong when you yourself isn't even the gold standard.

Daniel Rincon

I don't remember if Palm's age is stated but if it helps we can think she's like leorio where she's like 15 but just looks taller/older

R4azi

Palm clearly does not see gon in a sexual way, and gon knows that, palm is just silly, no serious shit is going on, and this was never mentioned badly later on because there was nothing to begin with, I watched this show an unhealthy amount of times, so i can tell You should only take it sarcasticly

Levi
>>126089697

This relates mostly to sociology, not evolutionary biology. I can see how someone who has no idea what they're talking about and relies on their vague understanding of pop science might make that mistake. Yes, the fact that you don't think women are as sexual or dirty minded is literally you telling on yourself LOL you don't talk with a lot of women. You're either a teenage boy guessing at what the opposite sex is like or a middle aged man with no meaningful female relationhips outside of family- well meemaw and cousin cindy might not get nasty around you, they sure do when you aren't around. Mind blowing, isn't it?

These comments are wild. Saying that men have a licence to be creeps because of their testicles is seriously unhinged. You'r etelling on yourself when you think that women can't be hornier than men lmao. Just cause you haven't seen it doesn't mean it isn't real -- we call that one object permanence. @SoClose I am literally a doctor. Do not try with that biology that you do not in the least bit understand. There is no significant sexual dimorphism to explain bad behaviour. Sociological factors encourage or discourage certain patterns of behaviour in response to contemporary societal values. You don't get to share the blame of being a dickhead with anyone else with a Y chromosome lol. We don't want anything to do with it. So just please be better and listen to people who want to educate you, we promise it will make you feel more at peace with those around you.
