I dunno, I feel like if we leave him behind he's gonna be next or something. Or we'll need an alibi.

Jayden

I can't help but feel a bit worried. The choice is too easy. The obvious "correct" answer is to go to the common room as soon as possible. But what if that's a mistake?

Kara

The last several chapters have emphasized that this is a SOCIAL game, one where appearances and allegiances are hugely important, and individual efforts may not get us the information (or medical help, or access to the Blackstone) we need. Whether or not we get the friar to come with, it would be narratively important and influential choice that Arthur is pursuing a buddy system/alibi in this moment which I think will only help his odds in this part of the season rather than running off by himself again.

Ochy Dochy

Time 2 vibe with our new besty and point at the body WITH OUR ONLY FUCKING ALIBI

1) we don’t know if the friar is in his room (“unresponsive” according to BJ) - he could be the one that was murdered 2) what else is Arthur going to do to get friars attention compared to what he’s done already 3) if Arthur tries to get into the friars room and is a. caught by the friar or b. caught by the others that could be even more suspicious - how stealthy can he be while coughing up a storm

TK Elemental

Okay hear me out. We need to give John a win. We always vote for the option that isn’t what John is suggesting. He’s gonna lose his shit and do something bad if we don’t listen to him every now and then. He says go to the common room. Fuck the friar. He was rude. Let’s get in there and see what’s what.

Also - it does seem like a social game, but thinking of the two we've interacted with the most so far (friar and barnabus) friar did not seem overly enthused with us. Just because we check in on his wellbeing, doesn't mean he won't throw us under the bus later (if we find him alive) so having an alibi might be moot

Autumn

These are my thoughts regarding why checking on the friar is probably a better move Ok so here are my thoughts: 1. If alive, the friar could serve as our alibi 2. If the friar is absent, it would give us time to root around in his things and gain more info on him. This likely will not happen again as everyone will be on high alert after the murder. The friar was also obviously keeping something from Arthur and he has a reputation for sorcery (researches life/death/nature, nicknames dr horribilis, called a wizard in a time non divine magic was pretty taboo) which may yield some interesting information 3. If the crime scene has been tampered with, it has to have been done so before the shout. After the shout there is too much traffic around the area to make any meaningful changes, which means that even if Arthur arrives immediately he would still be too late to see the crime scene as it was, meaning the only benefit of running to the scene is being there early 4. i don’t think people would find it too suspicious if Arthur came a bit later because they’d see him walk out of the corridor where his room was, decidedly in the opposite direction of the murder

Thomas Hegarty

We need to get to the common room and be seen. The longer it takes the more suspicious we will look

the door did not seem to lock at least when it was closed.. is the choice really for just to wait? the guy was unresponsive. what really do the wait option mean? is it Arthur not quite handling the situation, is it a reason to listen to John this time? keep trying to get the friar is what I would have wanted, but as it is, heading to the common room seems best.

We’ve also been directly told by the narrative that anyone will do anything to get to this stone. I don’t agree it’s a social game- I think it’s every man for himself and alliances aren’t able to be trusted because ruthlessness is a key trait among all of the players in this game. Every single one of these men will go to extremes to get the Blackstone, they’re devout to their cause. Arthur just said so. “How far will they go”. I don’t believe this is a social game at all, I believe it’s an intellectual one, and that our best bet is not to rely on relationships to stay afloat. The friar isn’t going to be on our side just because we check on him- he’s already discredited us for being heathens.

Kara

Very good points, except I still think what these other characters have to offer will ultimately be more beneficial than rejecting them entirely, even if we can’t trust them. So by social I mean less “collaborative” and “let’s help each other out” and more “we can’t afford to alienate ourselves from the other people bc they can be useful to us.” It seems too early to strike out solely on our own, even if I agree with you that will be the end game for sure.

This is now a murder mystery and we need to figure out where things are and who dunnit. If the friar opens at least we can confirm where he is, if he doesn't we can reasonably assume he's a very deep sleeper or he's not even in the room. It gives us options. I don't think if Arthur makes it to the noise he will see anything of value. And we need information right now.

Sam

We’re already by the Friar’s door, the dead body isn’t getting any deader. Either the Friar was involved in said dead body, or is the dead body. We might as well try his room first.

Scottie

Ooo tight poll! I like it! I'm for going to the common room! Let's see what's up! Let the murder games begin! 🥳

Project Worldbuilder

Head to the common room to be seen by people, lest suspicion fall on us for not responding to cries of 'murder'. Can always enlist someone there to go back for the friar after the fact

Thaelia

Ultimately I think we can't afford to be waiting around. We could potentially be missing important things happening in the common area if we're stuck in the hallway waiting to see if we can get the Friar to come out- which we might not be able to do, considering our conversation with the Friar didn't go super well. Plus, I think we need to be trusting John's judgement over Arthur's right now.

Pan

While most people's immediate reaction is to go to the common room and check out the action and body, I believe by leaving the Friar's room we could be missing an opportunity to get important clues we may not get to come back to in the future. The main argument people have been making for the body is Arthur's ability to have visions of people's death. However, he would need to take off his gloves for this and touch the body long enough to finish the vision, which could paint him suspiciously for only taking off one in that moment. Additionally, if the answer was that easy we wouldn't even be playing this game. Its likely if we do see the body's death, the murderer may be masked or otherwise unseen for how the victim died. Regardless, going to the common room is something we'll likely be able to do again later. The Friar, however, may be the only opportunity we get at this moment. Already having a somewhat suspicious character by way of his words and actions before parting ways with Arthur earlier, we could learn about his alibi by confronting him now. Or, if he's not in his room, we'll get more insight into him and potentially a chance to investigate his quarters. Waiting for the Friar is much more timely than going to the common room. It's more important to vote for the Friar than for the body.

MemeticHygienist

This vote is so close and nerve wracking. Either option could end up being catastrophic.

Nicky

Based on the conversation with the Friar, he’s suspicious of everyone and intended to avoid everyone as much as possible (post up in his room for the night). Hearing folks shouting about murder seems to validate his paranoia and he’ll likely choose to double down on his plan of keeping away from everyone and letting all the bullshit shenanigans playout without him. Since he didn’t respond to the initial yelling or acknowledge Arthur calling for him/pounding on his door at this point, I don’t think he wants to leave his room, and waiting for him is likely a waste of time. I’d rather get to the scene ASAP and start finding out who’s dead, how, who found them, etc, etc. If the Friar changes his mind later and shows up, good for him, but I’m no more concerned about him than anyone else right now and he’s clearly not interested in engaging with the situation.

Brie

Lots of good reasoning for both options here. The way I see it if we wait we MIGHT be able to investigate the friars room, but if we head straight there we'll DEFINITELY get to investigate the murder scene a bit AND mostly likely take suspicion off ourselves a bit Additional idea that I just considered and I don't know what it could mean: WHAT IF THE FRIAR IS THE MURDER VICTIM!?

Sophie K

Is it just me or does it seem like they’re already thinking of each other as possible competition? We don’t know how they’re going to react to this, but the sooner we get there, the more control we can have over what they do next. I think we need to check it out and calm everyone down. Do our investigator thing.

Heather Bruce

Even if we wait for the Friar, there's no guarantee that he'll back us up on the alibi front. Better for the friar to stay locked in his room than "get involved." I say we go.

Lettie Black

Voting for this one feels like that poison cup scene in the Princess Bride. 😂 But I'm inclined to go with John on this one since Arthur is . . . not really doing so well.

bones.mt

If we wait for the Friar, there is a higher chance he will vouch for us!! At least, that's what I think.

bones.mt

Plus, we could manipulate the situation somehow, by keeping him as a 'guarantee', but also Arthur could throw him under the bus if needed.

Nicky

That’s assuming he decides to join us… on the walk to their rooms he indicated he expected a murder spree to break out and planned to stay in his room to avoid it

BeastlyDeath

My reason against waiting for the friar is we have no guarantee that he is still in there. For all we know, the friar could be the one dead and the killer has found secret passages to rooms so he doesn't have to unlock doors to let his presence be known. Waiting in hopes he comes out makes the target on our backs grow even larger. I'm sure it will already be noticed we didn't give a gift and I'm sure the friar isn't the only one to notice we didn't announce ourselves as a prince we shouldn't draw anymore suspicion than we already have.

Layali

I’ve got a feeling the friar is dead.

Layali

Since Intermezzo the thing I was most looking forward to from all this time travel business was our protags interacting with people from the past, so I’m so excited for this new arc.

Layali

The only reason I’d want to wait for the friar is to have a look through his room if he’s not in it. Or if he was about to be killed, to interrupt it with Arthur’s knocking. Otherwise, I’d just go to the crime scene.

Rafaela Prado

I wonder if our ring being different from the one the other guy has would be enough to prove we didn’t rob the ring but just choose to not reveal the order association given murder. And ditching would look more suspicious but things will be awful either way
