I'm a trinket gal, but I don't care about that ring anymore

Heather Bruce

We have to cover our own butts. We have no leverage, no friends, and everyone is (or could be) lying about everything. (Including us - we're here to steal the stone, remember?) Ditch the ring, try for the body later.

Quinn

Ditch the ring but hide it /drop it somewhere we can go back for it again later, if possible. It might be useful later on, but for now it’s way too risky to keep it

Quinn

Exaaactly. We might be able to touch the body later. It’s not like he’s going anywhere 💀

Thomas Hegarty

I’d rather also have a ring and push the blame off of Gerard I suspect the friar and there is a chance friar may have ditched the other ring

Thomas Hegarty

If people here believe Gerard please consider what ditching the ring would do to the one person you already believe to be innocent

keyraven

We should take the risk and try to touch that body. We've been playing it too safe so far, and have almost no useful information about the murder. This is a game, and we can't win by sitting on the sidelines, or by hedging or bets. Its possible that Langward still has his ring - in that case, ditching the ring is pointless. Additionally, Arthur already has some suspicious items in his possession - such as the lighter. I'm not sure getting rid of the ring will be very all that helpful.

keyraven

Also, getting caught ditching the ring would be the worse possible outcome. If we have the ring at the body, at least we can pretend to also be a member of the Order.

Foxalis Corvidox

But if we pull off touching the body, we could really benefit from the information and it could possibly save us trouble later down the line.

Charlie

I was thinking the same thing! Unfortunately I think Harlan might take a permanent route regardless

Character-wise, forcing John to touch the body when he is heavily traumatized from the Pits is a pretty upsetting to do. Plot-wise I believe that it is still better not to linger around the body and instead use the time to throw away/hide the ring. The characters explicitly said that the person was killed from behind, so there is a high chance that the only thing John will see is a shadowy figure, nothing at all, or the killer was disguised as someone else so the information would be flawed. Magic use is not off the table after all. Meanwhile, hiding/throwing away the ring can bring really good results. They can still use it later so throwing it into the fire might be a waste. If the others find the ring, at least they wouldn't jump to immediate conclusions as to who the killer is. Additionally, the killer would be thrown off by the finding since they know where the actual ring is so the appearance of an another Order ring might cause them to act rashly and fish for information. Plus, getting rid of all the suspects would be unwise, so if the killer goes after Arthur for example, since he wasn't too suspicious, they can get more clues from the potential attack. Arthur is a detective, he can handle a murder mystery without seeing someone's final moments.

Im just curius as to how they know he was slit from behind if they didnt pay enough attention to notice if he wasnt wearing his ring He might also still be wearing the ring I feel like going with touching the body but its also the more risky way to go. Altough as someone else mentioned what if we get cought trying to get rid of the ring?

MemeticHygienist

I want him to ditch the ring down his gullet so bad.

vetchtibble

Guys we’re a detective - we can definitely solve a murder without eldritch assistance

keyraven

It's important to note that the death visions are from a 3rd person point of view, as confirmed in Part 5. John describes it as "being a witness" to the crime. Therefore, it shouldn't matter if the victim was attacked from behind - we should be able to see the murderer.

Quinn

Luckily, if that’s the case, we know there is at least one other ring we can (likely) get to in the future :)

Hyde, World’s Best Shoggoth

Even if we do learn who the murderer is, then we can’t really convince anyone. We can’t say we have visions. It would be a good thing to do if we were playing solo, but we’re not anymore, there’s a bunch of people here and how we interact with them and how they see us is important. Having the ring found on our person can end up being the end of everything we’re trying to do here

RoryMarkal

I wanna say touch the body but it's too risky atp. Not to mention our poor John doesn't like seeing the death of others that way. I don't think we'll need the ring in the foreseeable future, but you never know. Therefore, I think it's probably best to get rid of the ring. Like someone else pointed out, Arthur's literally a PI, he can figure it out himself

Raven Fritz

I knew we should have gifted the ring. I don't think touching the body will reveal enough, I think we need to rely on Arthurs detective skills, it's time to go full dinner party.

Isi

So, I'm fully aware I'm off my rocker arguing for body touching because there are a million and one ways this can go terribly, but my reasoning for body touching: -there are far more damning items in Arthur's possession than just the ring. If it comes to forced show and tell we're cooked anyway, so trying to hide the ring feels like a waste -ditching the ring feels like the "safer" choice but I don't feel like those have been panning out for us lately. Might as well do something bold and reckless. It might be sunk cost fallacy but I still want the ring as a future uno reverse, I don't want to throw it away -literally anything we do right now could be construed as suspicious so I'd rather do something proactive at the risk of being accused, because being accused might happen anyway, over trying to hide "evidence" and walk that tightrope of appearing innocent at the expense of finding out anything new. I'm fully aware getting caught tampering with the body is pretty sus, BUT SO IS GETTING CAUGHT TRYING TO HIDE IMPLICATING EVIDENCE -John is a big boy entity who can handle being asked to do something uncomfortable. He knows Arthur isn't poking at his trauma to be a dick; they have an ability no one else has that is uniquely suited for this situation -in conclusion: fuck it we ball.

Aspen Whispers

Ditching the ring into Arthur’s belly is the best bet, I still find touching the body may incriminate Arthur too much

Lettie Black

If I’m remembering right, John sees the deaths from an outside perspective, not from the dead person’s point of view—so even if this guy was killed from behind, John should still be able to learn something about who did it. But I still don’t think it’s worth it to try, because Arthur would need to take off his gloves, get in front of the rest of the group, and actually touch the body long enough for John to fully see what happened. Plus, even if they learn the truth from a vision, they can’t prove anything to the others that way.

Jones

I think we really should touch the body. John clearly doesn't want to, and I don't blame him, but Arthur literally has an ability that will tell him who the killer is and we need as much information as possible, risky or not. One of the main reasons we voted to rush to the crime scene was to get there early for information! We've already used a vote to *keep* the ring, and now we're just going to ditch it? I think it's a mistake to use our action to throw it out instead of doing something we know will give us information. Also, we know now that at least two of the other members of the group are a member of the fallen star - I'm wondering if *all* of the guests are. BJ said last part that giving the ring as a gift might have been what could sold us as the prince to our host. The ring is a tie to the murder scene but it's also our tie to the order.

Thaelia

I'm gonna go against consensus here and say we should go for the body. It may be the riskier move, but every move we can make has risks at this point. - Knowing who is the murderer is important even if we aren’t able to convince the others. It gives us valuable information on who we can and can’t trust. And we know who to look at to find evidence to convince the others. - If Langward still has his ring, we’ve potentially lost the ring forever over nothing. - Frankly we have way more suspicious items on us than the ring if we have to open up our bag… namely Yorick (AKA the guy we’re impersonating's rotting head!) - Keeping the ring keeps open the possibility of pretending to be a member of the Order and making an alliance with Gerry to get the Blackstone. Important reminder that so far Gerry has been the only group member who’s stood up for us and reinforced our alibi. If we ditch the ring, then all the blame will be laid on him by the real murderer. - If we’re caught trying to get rid of the ring, it would be the worst of all possible options and instantly bring all suspicion onto us.

Jones

Why I think we should vote to touch the body: We voted to rush to the crime scene early to get information, now we're passing up the chance? Not to mention we voted earlier specifically to keep the ring - now we're just throwing it out? Ditching the ring just seems like a net zero to me. We didn't give a gift to the host *or* confirm our abili with the friar, if we chuck the ring and don't take the opportunity to use our magical death vision to literally see the murderer we've gained nothing. Passing up the opportunity to get information by touching the body in favor of throwing out the ring is a mistake imo. It's *backtracking* on progress we've made with previous votes and I doubt that will be rewarded

Queen

voting to ditch the ring let the record show though i do not care how john feels about touching bodies or whatever and im not in agreement that we should vote to protect john’s constitution.

Sasha

ditch the ring for now

K.M.

I think the ring is important - if we ditch it it’ll be used against us later FOR SURE. “I already had this ring” Honesty is always best 🤷‍♀️ What are they gunna do, kill us? I think that’s the plan in this castle as is lmao Now, I don’t think touching the body will do any good either. What, we run ahead and touch the body? Super normal not suspicious. I wish the plan was “run ahead and ditch ring on body” ahaha

Brie

I can't belive we're choosing not to use our power to witness a person's death during a danged MURDER MYSTERY chapter! Feels like a wasted opportunity imo 😒

Jones

Another reason to go for the body: They have a literal magical ability that is perfect for the murder mystery situation they're in and, as a Private Investigator, Arthur wants to use it to get information. John's argument about instead using the opportunity to throw out the ring makes sense, but I also think he's latching onto ditching the ring as an excuse not to have to touch the body. Not to say the points he makes are wrong, but he clearly didn't want to touch it even before the ring reveal. He was trying to find an excuse as soon as Arthur brought it up, stuttered out a bunch of “but"s, and couldn't at the time. Now he has one, and is leaning hard into it. Arthur's reasonings for going for the body are driven by wanting to investigate. John's for ditching the ring I feel are more trying to avoid the other option (which is highly unpleasant for him), rather than what's necessarily the best action for them. I'd rather follow Arthur's lead on this one. Also, we're chucking out an item relevant to the organization that at least two other guests are a part of and throwing away the opportunity to *magically investigate the crime scene* based on the *assumption* Langward is missing his ring - and it's entirely possible that it's still on his body, in which case this would have been for nothing at all (less than nothing, actually - Arthur and John would lose stuff).

Luna_de_maria

we gotta protect arthur, he's a soggy coughing boy at this point he doesnt have time to murder solve he has to not be suspect number 1

K.M.

TOUCH THE BODY WE ARE INVESTIGATORS EVEN WITHOUT MAGIC “HOW DID THIS PERSON DIE” POWERS WE SHOULD BE LOOKING AT THE DAMN BODY BODY BODY BODY RAHHH.

azalea

all in for touching the body. a society like the order would most likely make rings that are custom made to fit the wearers so unless we happen to have really similar hands it would be easy to prove that it *wasn't* stolen

Thomas Hegarty

A little more food for consideration if Langward has no ring and we are asked to turn out our pockets wouldn’t the ring be a good thing to stop on? Over our lighter and other possible devices from the future

Layali

Aww that’s too bad the ring is winning out. If we went with the body option, it’s true we’re probably going to be found to have a ring - but that brings the total amount of rings to two, which instantly makes it clear that at least one of the two (Arthur and Gerard) has his own ring and didn’t take it from the body, therefore muddles the suspicion. But if Arthur gets caught trying to throw his ring away…

Layali

Being found to have another ring isn’t as bad as being found trying to ditch a ring. Risk losing Barnabus’ listening ear.
