IDK IF THIS IS LILITHS MANIPULATION BUT DOES IT MEAN WE SHOULDNT HAVE TRUSTED ANTOANE IN THAT ONE POLL??

Quinn

Stone lore, some Lilith sass, effective spooky and squelchy sounds, carrying the “fire,” The Day of Wrath™️ approaching, thoughts on afterlife and trust… 👀 Also I *love* Lilith’s presence and aura — “FffffLlleeEeeeEessShhHhhhhh” lol Brilliant chapter! Thank you, Harlan!

Alice Blue

This was such an exciting chapter... I have so many questions!!

Quinn

“Didn’t you hear? He’s Kayne now.” Don’t deadname your father, young lady /silly

SeerOfTime

Another excellent, engaging, and stress-inducing chapter in the best way! Thank you for all your hard work, Harlan.

Trust. That’s the decision we made with Antoine the first time around, and with Vale with his dying wish. This is a group of people who set out on a mission they knew was important and knew they might not come back from. There’s no point in doubting each other in the moment. That sort of trust might lead to betrayal, but doubt will definitely lead to lack of cohesion. So Antoine’s having some sort of low point + scratching issues. So are we, literally seconds ago we were ‘Antoine’ being reassured by Alia (whereas Antoine sought for some sort of reassurance from Arthur). Setting out on a quest like these four did, there was always going to be issues like these popping up, suspicious stuff and outside corruption attempts. So when we said we’d trust each other at the beginning, it meant trusting each other through this sort of thing. Might this trust be turned against us, yes. But in the moment between doubt and trust I think trust is the more appropriate choice. That’s the choice we’re making - in the moment, not in hindsight. And Lilith taunting us doesn’t matter. She could make winning the lottery sound like a tragedy. Booth John’s taking a break cos she’s picking up the slack for him. Also, first she targeted our actions towards/trust in Vale, now Antoine, next will probably be Alia. Idk, trust. We made that decision and there’s no point not sticking to it. I mean Vale was literally being turned into a monster, like literal corruption and being turned into an enemy, but we honored his decision to be on this quest…it’s only fair we give Antoine a chance as a fellow team member too. We’ve already made the decision to treat him as a different individual to original timeline Antoine. And Vale made that same decision to trust us after he confronted us - he confronted us but said whatever we replied with he would accept as ‘truth’. I think that’s a sensible method to copy. We already semi-confronted Antoine, now the rest is in his hands. And really, what would not trusting him help us with? We’re already all in a small space constantly aware of each other. Whatever ‘not ok’ things he might be doing are probably when we wouldn’t notice…or in his sleep, from Lilith. Which I feel is implied in this chapter when Arthur says ‘you know you had a part in this’ then cut scene to Antoine and Arthur’s discussion. I mean IDK it just doesn’t make sense to go from ‘trust Antoine’ to ‘tell Vale the truth’ to ‘tell Alia the truth’ to ‘fulfill Vale’s dying wish’ to this chapter with Alia telling us to make our own light to traverse the vast dark - then for us to not trust Antoine? Like I’m not talking about whether trusting him will lead to any issues later that’s not the point lol issues are like the default situation rn, I’m talking about what makes sense in the moment and not trusting Antoine after all the choices we’ve made and all that’s happened just doesn’t make sense…I mean honestly the weak link in the group is technically Arthur (and John). John had to remind him that giving the ring to Lilith wasn’t an option just a few chapters ago! So in the same way we struggled with the circumstances but ended up doing the right thing, we should extend that courtesy to the non-traitorous by comparison Antoine. Trust is just as smart and strategic a decision as doubt can be.

Quinn

Agreed! Even if Antoine ends up being shady/doing something harmful to us, we chose to trust him earlier and we shouldn’t go back on that. Trust!

Layali

Trust is just as smart and strategic a decision as doubt can be. It’s not ‘trusting that his situation isn’t strange’ it’s ’trusting he’d make the right decision’. That’s also Vale’s ethos when handling us. Does that make sense? These characters were always going to be put into horrifying and suspicious situations by virtue of the journey the set on, so the trust was meant to encompass these circumstances - not just the first few moments between leaving the gate and encountering our first outside influence (Mother Darkness, and we were the suspicious individuals then). I’m not saying Antoine isn’t liable to succumb to outside influences, but rather Arthur mistrusting him in that moment doesn’t make much sense. Keeping in mind trust as ‘trust the person’ not ‘trust everything is alright’ and trust as an active decision not an easy one. If we don’t trust him maybe we’d be monitoring him. But the same goes for Antoine. If he was aiming to do us harm, he wouldn’t do it when we’re aware. His teammates are a witch and an Evrard approved Arthur. He wouldn’t be obvious about his deception/whoever is corrupting him would be careful. If Arthur keeps his eyes peeled all day long, at some point he will sleep and can be jumped then. And during the day they’re trying to survive so really even if Arthur’s suspicious it’s unlikely to benefit him much in the end. All the choices we’re making right now feel like they’re defining the story, not changing the end. And defining Arthur’s role in the story, in the other team members story - not the events or the actions that end up happening, just Arthur’s role. And what the second coming of the Three Soldiers were like. I don’t know, I’m also feeling kinder to these guys knowing they’re going to all die, I want their story to have some element of trust.

Raven Fritz

I wish these came more often, I love this story so much

Layali

Antoine is having dark thoughts, but he reached out to us in this moment.

Brittney With An E

U gu hh what is antoines deal... Im so torn on trusting him because Arthur needs ppl he cab trust other than john but so often things go poorly... I dont think Lillith is lying about knowing Arthur longer though

Martina

I'd still say we'd trust him... He might have been keeping some secrets or whatnot, but so is Arthur. And our boy can't always just doubt everything and everyone now, can he?

MemeticHygienist

Have none of you listened to the not so subtle warnings delivered via Booth John???

Rhian

I have no idea what's going on. I keep feeling like I've missed a chapter or something. Wasn't Arthur about to mercy kill Rhodri? But now Antoine is sick too... I'm really lost.
