I think we should rent the room. It’s not like the butcher doesn’t know Arthur’s going to New York. At least this way there’s a chance to slow him down a bit

I say continue on. If the Butcher stays too long at and around the hotel, he's more likely to start asking around about the scrawny guy with the distinctive scars, perhaps learning his current alias, that he was looking in the classifieds of a local paper, where he might be staying....

Arthur knows this field. It makes sense to trust Arthur on his home turf.

BUT MARIE SAID NOT TO BE LATE...

Jess

If Arthur takes the time to get a room at this hotel and that makes him too late for Marie, then he's stuck staying at this hotel where it will be easy for Collins to find him. Arthur's already been memorably weird to multiple people at this hotel while wearing the same clothes as from the train and with a noticeable accent. He even did something that could tie back to Collins' question regarding his blindness. I don't think Arthur can afford risking being stuck at the current hotel.

Hopefully Arthur won’t waste time- I’m hoping he makes a reservation and dips! I absolutely want him to stick with his plan of renting a room as a distraction… I’m going to trust him on that. Back in a normal city- Arthur knows what he’s doing here

I don’t know how long it takes to rent a hotel room in 1930s NYC, but I feel like Arthur knows how long it would take and if it would slow them down significantly, he wouldn’t bother. He could always let the receptionist know that he has an appointment to keep and maybe that can help keep things quick, and then he can excuse himself and tell them he will return if it starts to take too long or there’s danger around the corner.

I don't feel particularly strongly about this one, but I am still of the idea that it can't hurt and it might actually help, so renting a room it is.

Although the fact that it sounds like a good idea with no side effects is definitely a red flag. Still going to for it, though.
